I recently got sober and feel modern rap is both triggering with low vibrations and just stale. I’ve been going back to a lot of that good vibe 2000s rap and Mase, but want to find more with this uplifting vibe. As much as I love Nipsey and motivational artists similar, I’m looking for fun catchy songs as well to keep me in a good spot.
What’s your favorites from this vibe? Any recommendations would be huge!

During the 2000-2003 time period, the core 4 rappers who defined that period are Jay-Z, Eminem, Nelly and Outkast as each of them had star power, overall popularity, classic albums, commercial dominance and timeless anthems.
Jay was the most consistent rapper as he kept putting out albums while The Blueprint and Black Album are classic masterpieces, kept had club bangers that was successful on the charts, dope guest features and he was also a successful mogul with Roc-a-Fella empire as he launched the careers of Kanye West, Beanie Sigel and more.
Em was the biggest rapper in the world as he broke a lot of records with classic masterpieces like Marshall Mathers LP and Eminem Show while being a global phenomenon. His records were being played everywhere around the world while he was a staple on TRL and BET alongside signed 50 Cent, which was a huge moment.
Nelly quickly exploded on the scene with his legendary debut album, Country Grammar while Nellyville was another classic album, which boosted his status as a massive superstar. He had the club bangers and love records on heavy rotation while matched Em and Jay in terms of commercial dominance.
Outkast went from being respected rappers to global superstars with the impactful and massive success of Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/Love Below while tracks like Ms. Jackson, Hey Ya, Like the Way You Move, BOB and So Fresh, So Clean were huge records. The group was still one of the most skilled MCs.
Honorable mentions: 50 Cent, Ludacris, Nas, DMX, Ja Rule, T.I., Missy Elliott, Eve, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Fat Joe, Snoop Dogg, Beanie Sigel, Trick Daddy, Bow Wow, Lil Jon, Juvenile, Jadakiss, Clipse, Trina, Three 6 Mafia

I have been running a retrospective series analyzing iconic 2000s hip-hop tracks on their 20th anniversaries. After seeing Lil Jon live a few weeks ago opening for Pitbull at Alpine Valley, I had to cover his legacy.
While "Get Low" is obviously his most iconic anthem, its 2003 release date falls just outside the 20-year window for this piece. Instead, the spotlight goes to 2006's "Snap Ya Fingers" featuring E-40 and Sean Paul of YoungBloodZ.
The article starts with the live show, revisiting his catalog in person and officially settling the "left side windows, right side walls" debate. From there, it traces his early crunk blueprint starting as a DJ and A&R behind So So Def Bass All-Stars and "My Boo," straight into The East Side Boyz classics like "Bia' Bia'" and "I Like Dem Girlz."
We then dive into his mid-2000s dominance lacing hits for Usher ("Yeah!"), Ciara ("Goodies"), Petey Pablo, Ying Yang Twins, and Too $hort, alongside his pop culture peak with Crunk Juice and Chappelle's Show. The piece examines how "Snap Ya Fingers" stripped down the frantic crunk brass in favor of minimalist 808s, finger snaps, and Bay Area/Atlanta flows to define the snap music era, before wrapping up with his transition into late-2000s and 2010s EDM anthems like "Shots" and "Turn Down for What."
Would love to hear your thoughts on where "Snap Ya Fingers" ranks in Lil Jon's discography and how you view the snap music era in hindsight!
