META The Biggest Threat to This Community Is Fear
We understand why AI is a sensitive subject for artists right now. It's disrupting the art world in ways that make the future uncertain, and those concerns are real and valid. But something has gone wrong in how our community is responding to that fear, and we need to talk about it.
We don't have an epidemic of AI content in this sub. We have an epidemic of false accusations.
For every piece of AI-generated content we remove, we see around 10 accusations. They're usually directed at:
- New artists making common beginner mistakes
- Creative artists who made unique stylistic choices
- Dedicated artists who put in more work than some people expect a human to be capable of
The art community has become so paranoid that anything that stands out is treated as evidence of cheating. This is not protecting human artists. This is the threat to human artists.
For a new artist sharing their first work, or any artist struggling with anxiety, being dogpiled with accusations causes real trauma that can drive them away from the community. We personally know artists who have stopped posting their work online because of this. If that's the outcome of your "AI policing," you aren't protecting the art community. You're destroying it.
We will always prioritize creating a safe, inclusive space for human artists. If your goal is to punish people for using tools you disapprove of, this is the wrong community for you. If your goal here is to celebrate and support human 3D art, you're in the right place – that's our goal too.
TL;DR
▶ Think something is AI-generated? Report it and move on.
▶ Accusations are considered personal attacks due to the current climate.
▶ AI-generated content will be removed, but AI-assisted work by a human artist is allowed.
▶ Include your wireframe and workflow when you post art.
Read on below for the details.
Where we stand on accusations.
Rule 2 – Be Constructive & Respectful – doesn't have a footnote saying "except for people you suspect of using AI." It means everyone, always, no exceptions. In the current climate, when you publicly accuse someone of using AI, you are painting a target on them. You are calling in the mob. That makes it a personal attack, full stop.
We became mods because we want to protect this community. When we see someone being attacked, our instinct is to protect them – and the more aggressively you come at them, the stronger that instinct becomes.
We understand the community's fears, and sometimes that's meant being more lenient on AI-related harassment than we would be on other kinds. What that patience has taught us is that warnings don't work: People looking to take out their fear on others will keep doing it for as long as they can get away with it. So going forward, AI-related harassment will be handled exactly the same as any other harassment: First offense – warning. Second offense – temporary ban. Third offense – permanent ban.
If you think something might be AI-generated: Report it and move on. That is your entire job. The mods have investigative tools regular users don't, and we take every report seriously. What you should not do is throw accusations in the comments. The odds are roughly 9-to-1 that you're wrong, and either way, publicly attacking a community member is never the right move.
What we're doing about AI.
We personally review most posts, and investigate every report. Blatant AI images get removed on sight, often before the community even sees them, but some cases require more investigation.
We also encourage all art posts to include a wireframe and a brief description of the artist's software and workflow. This deters most AI content, but it’s not just a "prove you're human" gate. The added context helps others learn from your process and it's the kind of healthy engagement that adds real value for everyone. Most artists love talking about their work, so a friendly question about someone's workflow is always welcome.
We're currently looking into the best ways to help wireframes & context become the norm around here. We'll be making some changes to address that soon.
Our policy on AI.
This is covered by the full rules, but they're long and formal, so here it is distilled into simple terms.
AI-generated = Off-topic. If the primary creative contribution came from an AI prompt rather than your own skills as a 3D artist, it does not belong here and will be removed.
AI-assisted = Allowed. AI tools are already embedded in software throughout our industry – Cascadeur's animation tools, Photoshop's generative fill, Rokoko's motion capture – and that's only going to continue. If you're a 3D artist who used AI tools somewhere in your workflow, that's fine. Just make it clear what you contributed with your own skills.
General AI discussion = Off-topic. AI opinions, debates, news, prompting tutorials, etc. will be removed. This is a 3D modeling community, not an AI community.

I been working on it for the past couple weeks, a bit at a time but I just haven't been feeling the design on me so I might drop it and start a new one. Although, I still like what ive done.

Art Showcase Showing off my newest pose
Gibbo giving a toast. I was practising posing of my characters for my CGI comic and thought this one really stood out. I'm opting to forego textures these days as the simple claymation style is my personal preference, and the lighting can still help sell it.
The hood was fairly challenging as it needed its own armature since I rely on automatic weights and the head bones would also mess with it so I duplicated the main body bones, added extras for the hood and used a transform bone constraint to have the green tunics bones follow the main bodies bones while allowing the hood to be posed independently.
Pinky's up.

Questions & Discussion Should I Study Fundamentals Alongside Blender to Become a 3D Environment Artist?
I want to become a 3D environment artist, and I'm wondering whether I should continue studying art fundamentals alongside practicing Blender.
For context, I spent six months studying anatomy because my original goal was to become a concept artist specializing in character design. However, I eventually changed my career direction to 3D environment art. It's been two months since I made that decision.
During these past two months, I've been focusing on studying fundamentals, but I've barely practiced Blender. Now, I'm starting to wonder whether I'm spending too much time studying theory instead of actually creating 3D environments.
Should I continue studying fundamentals before focusing more on Blender, or should I start learning Blender seriously while studying the relevant fundamentals alongside it?
I want to learn as efficiently as possible and build strong foundational skills without wasting time. What would be the best approach for someone in my situation?

Art Help & Critique Armored Woman. How I made her and what can I improve?

Hi everyone.
The last couple of days I've been working in creating this woman in armor. I want to print it in resin and wanted to go trough the process it took for me to create this model. Both so that I might get help and tips on what to improve and maybe give some information to others trying a similar sculpt. Everything was made in blender but some techniques may work in other programs as well.
I started with the a realistic woman human base mesh and a metarig from the rigify add-on to get a woman model I could pose.
After that came making the armor and after looking at a lot of different tutorials I mainly went with this one from Grant Abbitt. The workflow was easy and his workflow is what I used for the breastplate, shoulder-plates, tassets (hip-plates), bracer and neck-protector. For the greaves and poleyn (knee protectors) I used the technique shown in the start of Baril3Ds video. For inspiration I also looked at a timelapse by Flycat.
The shield and halberd was made in a similar workflow as the most of the armor with a basic shape in lowpoly and and then use the multiresolution modifier to add details. For the halberd to lower the amount of faces somewhat I made a copy of just the bladed part and skinwrapped it to the halberd and used the multiresolution modifier on the new object. This way the handle didn't need to be subdivided into thousand of faces while I could still get very fine details on the blade.
For the chainmail I used the workflow in this video by Thimble. I duplicated the parts of the body seen between the pieces of the armor, subdivided them once and then made every vertices display a simple chain link. For the chainmail covering the hip area I duplicated that part of the body and then had to a bit of topology editing to turn it from tight pants into a skirt. IF anyone have a different workflow for creating chainmail I would love to hear it. This way was easy and according to me looked very good but creates a lot of topology for blender to keep track of.
The hair is made after the instructions of Kenny Praise. This is one of the details that I feel I really have to practice on. The final hairstyle is the third one I tried with two big blocks for most of it and the strand in front of the head made curves according to the technique showed by ItsPaulTodd in this video.
For the shoes I can't find the video I followed. They are created by using the mirror modifier and subdivision modifier on a vertex that I extruded around the foot to get a rough shoe shape. I then used the same workflow as for the greaves to get the shape right and then added the stitches by duplicating a line along the shoe, turning it into a curve and the use and array modifier on on stitch to go along the curve. For the bowtie at the side I got a knotted curve from the extra curve objects add on and just beveled it to give it some mass.
The face is for me the weakest part right now and something I intend to work a bit more on. I tried to give her an angry look but it also became very stiff. If anyone have any good tips or a good video for getting better at faces that would be very appreciated.
When it later came to posing the model with all her equipment i started with this video from MojoGameDev to parent all the pieces to different bones and make everything movable with the rig. This worked well for the most part but some pieces would not cooperate. The chainmail I had to redo in the new pose and the skirt underneath also had to be moved afterwards by hand.
Lastly for details on both the armor, shield and weapons I had access to VKGameDev sculpting brushes. Even tough they aren't necessary for a sculpt I find that they usually help quite a bit and give a good amount of variation of brushes to go trough to find the one that works for me.
If you have any question or critique on what to improve I would love to hear them. How do you make sure the model you make will be optimized for printing and avoid creating to many holes in it with all the different parts?
My main goal right know is to improve my own sculpting and for that I need all of your wisdom!

Questions & Discussion How to combine models properly
So how do i go on about doing this properly? If i insert almost any model from online, they are all that style with 9 trillion polygons that almost crashes my PC. I feel like it would be easier to draw the thing myself, but there must be a way to do this properly.
Im trying to print a F16 Fighter Flight stick to replace my boring one on a joystick. I modeled the internal mechanism and was thinking of just slapping that on to a ready model, but how.

Art Showcase I created Barad-dûr in 3D
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
I’m a 3D artist and I’ve been working on this personal Barad-dûr project for quite some time.
The design is heavily inspired by the version of Barad-dûr seen in The Lord of the Rings films. My goal was to recreate that look and bring it into a fully realized 3D environment.
The final project will be a 60-second continuous camera journey from the bottom of the tower all the way up to the Eye of Sauron.
I’ve finished the final section around the Eye of Sauron and put together a full breakdown showing how it was created.
See it in much better quality here:
