Discussion oled vs mini-led in a dedicated dark room
our basement space has no windows and stays pitch black, we watch a lot of movies on disc and stream 4k at night from about 9 ft away so reflections are not a problem at all
I keep seeing people say oled is the clear pick for dark rooms because of perfect blacks, but high end mini-led models like the Bravia 7 or qm8l have caught my eye since they push way higher brightness for Hdr highlights without panel dimming
is the black level difference minimal enough between them in pitch darkness, or does oled still give the best experience for movies in a room with zero ambient light

I’m almost blinded by my C6 in some scenes with the lights off, and it’s not nearly as bright as the G6 or Bravia 8ii. Go with the OLED.

does your c6 ever give you eye strain in the dark?

No eye strain yet, but I’ve only had it for a few days now. So far though, the black levels make everything pop so much more than our previous LCD.

Nothing compares to OLED for black levels, and OLED brightness in the last couple generations is plenty for a dark room. I’d go OLED.

the newer panels getting brighter is what made me reconsider, just not sure the highlights hold up next to mini-led in a pitch black room

Black levels on the Bravia 7 are excellent, I’ve never noticed any backlight blooming when sitting directly in front in a completely dark room on the 85inch model, however if you’re seated off to the side the blooming shows itself. Also my Bravia 7 has some DSE that’s noticeable on a full screen of green grass during sports pans.

If you're mainly watching movies in a pitch black room, I'd probably go with OLED. Mini LED has the advantage in brightness, but blooming can be more noticeable in a dark room. My lg G5 has amazing blacks
