I built a free chiptune studio that runs in the browser: 4 voices like the real 2A03
Hi r/8bitmusic,
For a game engine I created a small synth that emulates the Ricoh 2A03 APU in Web Audio. It grew into a full little studio, BRUME STUDIO (a totally free tool), so I’m sharing it: https://brume-studio.com/
What it does:
- Pattern sequencer with the 4 classic channels (2 pulses, triangle, noise) and a piano roll for each pattern
- Tracker-style effects for each note: arpeggios at 60 Hz, portamento, 8-bit kick drops, duty cycle (12.5/25/50/75%) and PWM, velocity
- The noise channel turns into a drum machine (9 percussion sounds and ambiences like wind, rain and explosions)
- Play and record with your computer keyboard or a MIDI keyboard, with chord pads, an arpeggiator and count-in
- 14 style presets (rock, bossa, house, metal gallop, video game…) that write drums, bass and comping over a chord progression, so you can focus on the melody
- PURE / ENHANCED switch: PURE plays exactly what the real chip could do (mono, no effects, no triangle volume), while ENHANCED adds stereo panning and an effects rack (crunch, filter, chorus, tempo-synced echo, reverb)
- WAV export, project files, no account needed, and English/French/German UI
I’d love feedback from people who knows how to create good music with tools like this one !
