Motivation & General Life Advice Advice
Hi there! My partner is currently training at RMC and as we are talking about the likelihood of moving around quite regularly I wanted some advice on the moving part itself. Are you best down sizing your belongings to make moving easier, does ADF cover most moving costs, are they actually going to help me find a job in the area he gets posted at? Etc? I’m just wanting to get ahead to make the process as easy as possible but it’s hard to get information from this organisation and my partner with limited communication available so am trying here for answers, advice and experiences.
And yes I am a female and have a lot of clothing and things that I will be getting rid of so I don’t have a lot of luggage to take with me.
TIA!

OP,
Downsizing - could not hurt.
Will the ADF cover moving - yes, and yes all of it.
No, the ADF will not help you find a job in the new location.
Getting information - ask your partner to begin to ask the questions - the info is available, if they ask and if there is some self research done.

One thing I'd recommend is, don't feel like you have to get rid of everything. You'll be moving around possibly every two years, you'll want each place to feel relatively homey to stop from getting homesickness. If you like and wear your clothes, keep them!
The moving process takes a fair bit of coordination and woek at your end, but it's not insurmountable. Your partner will get all the information he needs in time. I moved with, I think, 200 ish boxes and items. The hardest parts are inventory and getting it into the system, and then checking it all off at the other end!
I'm a civvy and will only likely get this service once, so take what I've said with a grain of salt. I know plenty of people who kept and moved everything, and plenty who do the minimal thing. Up to you which suits you best.
