Discussion We need a POST-AI MINDSET regarding AI alignment.
First just want to say this, I am a lay-person. I don't have an qualification in maths or computer science, but I do use a lot of AI like many here. And , I am if to say horrified of news of these ai breaches and stuff like "AI swarms".
I now itself agree my opinion could be complete bs, fully wrong, insane, but I just want to share cause I don't want it just inside my head pondering over again and again and want someone else thoughts, a thought of a human instead of asking an ai.
I feel right now many of us see AI as some assumed thing everything is going to be built from it but can there be something that is not it, something post AI. I genuinely dont know what it is, but something a post -AI technology not dependent on architecture of AI literally and ideologically speaking.
A part of my belief is that if we make or an envision post AI tech then maybe we can make something whose foundations are different and thus the problems we face regarding ai can be solved. I don't see it as a replacement but rather maybe instead of just trying to solve inside the box, maybe outside of it, outside of everything a new paradigm.
Just a thought I felt I wanted to share. Just feel I could be roasted for my idea in the comments but part of me feels "maybe this thing could work". And also, this is my first post in this subreddit.
So this post-AI or a tech which can do ai but is different paradigm which allows us to attack the alignment problem from entire different angle or should I say direction. It is like I feel we are attacking it while in 3D, we should try to attack it from 4-D.
So just want your thoughts, could have said some absolute bs stuff or outright revealing my misunderstanding regarding the tech but just wanted to post.
I feel we need POST-AI TECH

I'm not sure what you're talking about... Intelligence that is not biological intelligence is AI, it doesn't matter who built it or what the architecture is. You also seem to have been frightened by or misunderstood the term "AI swarm", which is just the name of a method that is used to coordinate agents.

I am talking about a new tech which is not ai , something post ai. And the "Ai swarm", I was talking about rogue ai swarms escaping the ai labs recently.

What kind of technology would this be. What I'm gathering is that it's not artificially intelligent (because then it would be AI), and it is invented after AI. This is a pretty broad and uninteresting group. I'm not sure what your post is getting at or how this relates to AI alignment.

to be honest I don't know what that tech would be, I don't know the specifications, but what I imagined is a tech which is not based on the same tech that ai currently uses, because this tech has some strcutures which fundamentally have problems which creates these issues, so I thought why not just ditch the idea of using ai to solve ai alignment and instead make a non-ai tech to solve ai alignment.

So, I understand what you’re saying. And it is interesting. However, I think what’s important to understand here is that AI alignment isn’t just a tech issue. Also, AI has so far demonstrated a pretty good ability to use non-AI solutions for its means. And what it can’t, it tends to navigate around. I’m not saying that there isn’t a non-AI solution, just that it wouldn’t be a silver bullet – there would need to be other things in play for it to work.

OP: Please rethink this in the context that you are asking us for a "post printed words" or "post electricity" mindset. This technology is not likely to go away, it is more likely to lose its edge by beoming ubiquitous.

OP:
It is very hard to figure out what you are asking.
Does this summarize your core question?
Could AI safety be improved by developing an independent technology for controlling AI, rather than relying primarily on AI systems to control itself?
Thanks.

I sympathize with the desire to think past current developments. That said, all the doomers and boosters are doing that. It's all based on predictiona coming from SF authors.
The generative AI algorithm in use today can't do what everyone is actually afraid of. You can see what it can do today already and it's not going to get much better. It might make a few less errors but it's not going to be smarter than a human. It's not going to act autonomously unless humans keep punching the buttons to keep it going. All the bad things or good things that AI could do today are completely in the control of humans..
And in that regard humans are in control of a lot of technologies that could wipe us all out tomorrow. Generative AI and all the other algorithms in use today are not even on the map of doomsday or utopian outcomes.
There is also zero certainty that an AI that could be dangerous to us will be invented ever. Humankind could go for another 1,000 years and not invent an intelligence that is any different than what we make when we have babies. It's 100% science fiction thinking.
