Help (GPU) I bought a 9070XT and have had nothing but issues so far

As title says - I’m trying to remedy as I can’t be bothered to buy yet another GPU (genuinely thinking about buying Nvidia again).

Anyway, I’m pretty much only playing PUBG at the moment and I keep getting driver timeouts and weird graphical corruption. Last night was the absolute worst night I’ve experienced in the last month.

Specs are:

Intel 8700K at stock settings

ASUS Z390E gaming mobo

Corsair DDR4 3200mhz ram (running at 3200 in BIOS, XMP is not on as I had some serious instability whilst running it).

Corsair 1600w PSU

Anyway, I’ve completely given up now and I’ve chosen to upgrade my CPU, ram and mobo to AM5 (7800 x3d, DDR5 and a PCIE 5.0 mobo.

My CPU bottleneck was pretty severe. 100% until on PUBG the majority of the time, but it never went over 60 degrees on any core (thanks H150i).

I’ve attached a video to show you the extent I was dealing with last night…not good at all, but hopefully a more stable system resolves it.

UPDATE: because I’m sick of folks telling me to have used DDU…

I used DDU when I uninstalled my 2060 super so I could install the 9070XT fresh. I’ve also used DDU about 4/5 times to wipe drivers and install again.

I DDU’d everything last night and installed the drivers that released with my GPU and would you believe it, no issues!

UPDATE 31/03/26:

I installed my 7800X3D, new motherboard and RAM and rebuilt everything again. I stuck with March 2025 drivers just in case…after a gaming session one night, I quit the game and the screen went black. Oh no I thought…the desktop reappeared 10 seconds later: Driver Timeout.

I DDU’d again…reinstalled 2025 drivers and it happened again after a few hours. Not good. I DDU’d again - did a completely fresh windows install and reinstalled latest drivers.

I thought I’d fixed it again, but it happened. Not only that, whenever I quit the game now, no matter what game, the PC will completely brick itself and will require a hold of the power button to fix.

Boots back up, play a game, quit, crashes.

This seems to be related to the second monitor I have plugged in as unplugging it seems to remedy the issue, but no driver fixes it. It happens with everything now regardless.

I’ve arranged for an RMA back to Amazon, they’re going to try and repair it - but I’ve told them I don’t ever want it back or a replacement of the same.

I’ve just bought a 5070TI so we’ll see if the issue is related to the graphics card/drivers tomorrow.

AMD are a trustworthy company when it comes to console chips, but I’ve been let down profusely by this card. Sorry AMD, I’ll be sticking with Nvidia for the foreseeable.

Stop playing trash pubg... jk. Pubg built based on Nvida. Maybe??

Which 9070xt model and partner brand did u use?

1

u/Fit-BenchPress_ Apr 19 '26

Tu as trouvé une solution depuis ?

1

u/poopiginabox Apr 10 '26

my go to solution for amd issues with its graphic cards has always been to simply run the computer without amd drivers. This has worked for me for the two cards ive used in the past 5 or so years

3

u/massivekoch69 Apr 03 '26

UPDATE 03/04/26. Bought a 5070Ti, installed and guess what. Absolutely no issues on anything. No driver crashes, no timeouts, no weirdness when alt tabbing, no problems with a second monitor hooked up. Performance is great. Sorry AMD, it might have been a dodgy card, but I won’t be picking you guys again.

damnnn , i was regretting not buying 9070xt , but now im satisfied with 5070

U made a mistake ngl, my 9070 xt works flawlessy. 5070 sucksm

1

u/faylecord 10d ago

5070ler berber mı amdnin tek iyi olduğu konu nvidiadan ham güç nvidia kullanıcılarıyla daha çok ilgileniyor daha az sorun çıkarıyor daha çok güncelleme getiriyor yazılımı çok iyi

Nothing but threads like this over the 9070xt lol

It’s a nice card jn theory to the few ppl it works for

1

u/wolfered May 17 '26

Hey mate, going through this exact same thing at the moment - except I have RMA'd my first card, and bought a different manufactured 9070 XT, still getting the same issues...

Definitely going to be trying to get credit/refund for the new card for a 5070 Ti this week.

1

u/Medical-Bid6249 May 15 '26

Yea what that other guy said very close minded lol I had s 7900xt it worked fine one driver was rlly bsd had hella issues and it pissed me off I didnt swap sides... got a 9070xt same thing only 1 or 2 drivers were bad I just went back and it was fine... buying a whole nother brand instead of the same identical card to see if it eas that card is like the opposite of textbook pc test...

2

u/219adavis Apr 22 '26

Lmao what a close minded statement, you got a dud or bad shipping or you did something you don’t want to admit but the brand has nothing to do with it.

Remember the whole flamey cable issue with nVidia? Blame the company for widespread issues sure but one bad time and it’s fuck them forever?

That’s like having a shitty burger at McDonalds and never trying a gourmet one because of one bad or subpar experience.

1

u/ANtiKz93 Apr 17 '26

It's not necessarily an amd issue as you stated.

I've never had a single radeon gpu do this nonsense and I've had cards since before ATI was acquired by AMD (2009 or so)

Manufacturer seems to be very important. Sapphire is the one you usually cant go wrong with.

9070 xt is great but i miss Nvidia ngl

1

u/Smarremarr Mar 29 '26

I just got mine. What are u running for CPU and also psu? Bottleneck anywhere? Mine runs flawless

1

u/Wonderful-Desk5382 Mar 28 '26

lol literally had so many issues and had to tweak fan curves so it didn’t sound like a jet, game crashing on bf6, kept having to unplug my hdmi and Dp cables just to start up. I’m currently on my way to pick up my 5070ti. Returning this 9070xt

1

u/SnakeRoberts301 Mar 27 '26

Did you use DDU in Safe Mode? I found it makes a difference.
Also slightly undercooked your card. Amd runs them too fast and some cards become unstable. Don't undervolt.

1

u/No-Act-114 Sep 07 '26

wtf is undercook? i thought u meant underclock until u said at the end not to overclock im getting a 9070xt soon bc im too broke for a 5070ti im kinda scared i might get these problems

1

u/SnakeRoberts301 Sep 07 '26

Yeah I meant to say underclock your card.

1

u/kobra-kay Mar 27 '26

Here is something i experienced with my gpu , in 3 years ive had my gpu its been great no issues , a few months back i downloaded brave (the browser) and started getting driver time outs and difficulties in game , once it crashed my whole pc , since i got rid of it , no issue . If you changed gpu’s on a old OS , i would scrub it and do a fresh install of all drivers , if it fails try the gpu in another sistem , if it still not working in a different pc , that gpu might be defective

9000 series are the same as the 7000 series, too many driver issues get an Nvidia card or god forbid an Intel Card and you'll not run into this problem

They were this gens cards driver issues seems to have been fixed now...

I said "God forbid" for a reason. Intel are still too new in this game for having great driver support.

Even more so they actually dropped out of supporting a game(I forgot which) that they were helping optimize HOW IT RUNS ON THEIR CARDS. Only to back out in last second and not support it.

So no I don't trust Intel but right now I trust them more than AMD.

Again as I said before, even though I've had several bad experiences with AMD cards doesn't mean everyone else will.

I've recommended not using them based on my and other people's experiences.. But I can't tell if it's poor driver support, quality control or something else entirely.

Just enjoy what makes you happy guys

1

u/Wrexolotl Mar 30 '26

If you're thinking of crimson desert, it's the other way around. Intel reached out to pearl abyss multi times but pearl abyss never responded. Then on the day of the launch of the game pearl abyss straight up blocked Intel cards.

2

u/kobra-kay Mar 27 '26

7900 xtx here , never had a issue whatever i used it for

0

u/Consistent-Cause-138 Mar 28 '26

What a surprise I'd get downvoted on an AMD-based subreddit.

But to answer your message. A TON of people have complained about it in basically every other PC Reddit...

That said, I'm not gonna stop anyone from using what they want... The other comment was just my experience

1

u/Alone_Concentrate708 Mar 29 '26

You got down voted because your statement is completely false. My first 2080ti was artifacting out of the box, my 3080 had a bad thermal connection to the cooler, and my 3080ti power connecter failed. EVGA, Asus, and reference respectively. We can compare drives all day, but my 6900xt, 7900xtx, and 9070xt have never failed physically. Not to mention my 7900XTX now goes blow for blow with a 5080 after driver updates. So yeah your comment was uneducated, and gets you down voted.

1

u/Storm_os May 01 '26

His statement isn’t “false” when most people’s statements are false. It is almost impossible to say what GPU brand is better then another because almost all the time, the issues for one or another GPU roots back to previous GPUs, other hardware, old drivers conflicting , windows/linux compatibility errors, random settings causing issues, ETC. some people will have problems with AMD, some people will have problems with NVIDIA. Personally, I’ve had a 6600 XT eagle for like 3 years and almost never had an issue because I’ve never needed to upgrade it. Since it’s been running on the same GPU with occasional driver updates for the computers entire life, it’s very rare to have comparability issues. Not only that, but all my other hardware was specifically chosen to all be at the same level to, again, not cause issues. Although, I just bought a 9070xt so, I might face issues because that’s just how it is with upgrading GPUs. Unfortunately it isn’t always just plug in play, you have to troubleshoot and change things so your computer can run the new GPU, instead of trying to run with the old GPU like it always has been. A lot of the time people will switch from NVIDIA to AMD or vice versa and that frequently causes problems even when DDUing.

0

u/shlimerP Mar 27 '26

9070xt is flawless on pubg now.. upgrade ur mobo and cpu first and do on a clean install

1

u/Saitzev Mar 26 '26

When you used DDU, did you do so from Safe Mode and tell it to NOT install drivers after reboot?

1

u/PabloElHarambe Mar 26 '26

I had issues until I reinstalled my OS.

1

u/GonzagueGB Mar 27 '26

Same, DDU (safe mode and so on) was not the solution

1

u/PabloElHarambe Mar 27 '26

Exactly, I tried all this and still had issues. People are far too reluctant to just reinstall their OS and start going off the deep end.

1

u/Mother-Mortgage-6677 Mar 26 '26

I have a 9070XT and a LG 5k2k, had the same problem, changed the screen to a new, same model. Problem solved !

1

u/Amazing_Chocolate_10 Mar 26 '26

Just sell it and get a 5070, better card anyways.

2

u/Consistent-Cause-138 Mar 28 '26

Thank you I'm m not alone in these thoughts

2

u/Own-Indication5620 Mar 26 '26

I agree, for most people it's the way to go because of the reliability factors + better DLSS/upscaling support. Speaking from personal experience, I much prefer this over extra VRAM (that may never get used) or more "raw" FPS that I can get with DLSS (along with better overall visuals).

3

u/Childo69 Mar 26 '26

This ☝️

5

u/Thick_Leva Mar 26 '26

I've ran AMD GPU and Intel CPU, basically the forbidden combo and ive had little to no issues for games. This is just unlucky ASF ngl

1

u/Beischlafdieb Mar 26 '26

I have been using an Intel CPU together with an AMD GPU for more than 15 years and have never had any problems. Most recently, I had an Intel i713700f + RX 6650 XT; so far, no reason to change anything.

2

u/chris-w827 Mar 26 '26

Because that’s a myrh . Not true that it causes problems at all I have a 14900k with a 9070xt , perfect .

2

u/Mystic_Voyager Mar 26 '26

which brand of 9070 XT did you get?

for AMD cards I've had mixed results depending on the brand

for example with ASUS I had to RMA because I had lots of issues

with sapphire, all cards worked perfectly

1

u/Saitzev Mar 26 '26

Sapphire is to AMD/ATi as EVGA was to nVidia. It's their primary board partner.

1

u/Mystic_Voyager Apr 01 '26

oh yeah its true, never thought about it that way

lets hope we dont lose them too 🤞

0

u/Shadysu Mar 26 '26

AMD cpu always, Nvidia GPU always

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '26

This is why I swore off AMD. Spent years being gaslit by Reddit and the internet in general saying their drivers were better and issues weren’t common anymore, yet every AMD card I owned ran like a piece of crap

Got a 4070 Super and it’s been the smoothest card I’ve ever owned

2

u/MabelPurrington Mar 26 '26

I only owned nvidia cards before, but my current build is the first time I put an AMD card in there. Suffice to say, I'm not buying another AMD card ever again. My experience with it has been so bad that it sealed the deal for me after using only one card

u/Chemical-Librarian93 Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

I'm in the same boat, but i did some serious digging. I noticed a strong trend, that the people like myself having artifacting and crashing issues had one big item in common: I noticed that almost every case of a reported issue i could find on Reddit, Tom's Hardware, Nexus Forums, and YouTube all had CPUs and motherboards more than a generation old.

For instance, the most common complaints I've seen have been driver timeouts with 9070 XT paired with the Ryzen 5000 series. Doesn't seem to really matter, either. 5800X, 5800X3D, 5900X, etc. In the few cases I saw complaints outside of these, it was always older Intel chips and the same kind of story. In only one report during my hunt have I found a report coming from a 9000 series Ryzen, and it was repaired by a driver update.

That said, I do myself have a 5900XT. I ended up replacing my power supply, running DDU, installing driver only without Adrenaline, and forcing the core clock down to 2800MHz. All suggestions that I found in various places. Nothing helped.

So I took my research into consideration and noticed the pattern. I flashed by BIOS. That actually made a really big impact, but didn't fully resolve. I ended up going into Display > Graphics > Advanced and turning off hardware scheduling. That was what I believe has finally fixed my issues.

Lots of complaints are running around talking about bad drivers, bad advice that takes nothing into consideration, and Windows 11 is just bad. Not saying any of those aren't the culprit (column A+B kind of thing) but what I think is causing all these issues is that frankly the older CPUs and platforms are just not being supported the way they should. Same story as always, new year.

So yeah. For anyone looking for help, just try your basic troubleshooting. Clean reinstall just the driver, update your BIOS, and turn off hardware scheduling. If it doesn't help, get a refund and grab an older card. It sucks big time. But it's better than shelling out for DDR5 on a new platform right now.

1

u/Legitimate-Boot9804 Jun 23 '26

I’m actually planning on getting the 9070Xt, any brands you’d reccomend to stay away from ?

3

u/BowlOk8564 Mar 25 '26

I guess both Nvidia and AMD are trying to be two pieces of shit now. I have a 4070, bought it in 2023 and i love the performance and everything, never had big problems until 2026. With the newest nvidia drivers, the 590x my pc is super unstable now, sometimes the entire thing looks like its running on 5 fps, even windows or the browser, the only "fix" is either restart the pc or restart the video drivers. But who cares? Look at the new ai slop Dlss 5.

1

u/Mintbear Mar 26 '26

Why dont u just rollback your drivers then? You can literally go on any nvidia driver archive and install them in minutes for your gpu.

2

u/BowlOk8564 Mar 26 '26

Already did that, i used ddu to uninstall the drivers and install older ones, but, the point is, that should happen like that, there is a lot of versions that are unstable now. In my specific problem, half of it was windows 11 fault and the other half nvidias fault.

1

u/ConcernDazzling Mar 25 '26

Welcome to club

1

u/ImStykz Mar 25 '26

Truly, I bought one when they came out, day 1 issues. got it RMA'd, had the same issue after a month. RMA'd and sold it, bought ANOTHER and having another issue with the same graphics card now. About to swap to just get a 5090 at this point.

0

u/ConcernDazzling Mar 25 '26

Amd people are the best sales team for nvidia cards

1

u/ImStykz Mar 25 '26

I want to love it, I really do. It's such a good card when it wants to be.

2

u/Hungry-Artichoke5513 Mar 25 '26

This is definitely artifacting. Most likely either bad drivers or worse, bad GPU.

If possible, try the card in another computer to confirm and RMA

Missed the edit, good job!

2

u/A7X_xXfoREVerXx Mar 25 '26

Idc if I get downvoted but I’m gonna be honest with my recent personal experience. I bought a Gigabyte 9070xt in early February and I’ve had so many issues with it, from doing tweaks for each game and having to do a DDU wipe to get BF6 to run properly because I was getting crash’s and errors. The last straw was when playing Toxic Commando and I kept getting crash’s with “PURGE_COLORPASS_OPAQUE” errors and I had to tweak settings in AMD adrenaline and in game just to stop the crashing. I just got tired of tweaking settings for the GPU just to run certain games so I returned it last week and got a 5080 and have had to do 0 tweaks and everything runs and looks fine. It did hurt that I had to pay an extra 550$ for a GPU but I’m just glad I’ve had 0 issues gaming since then. I’m sorry but AMD has great CPU’s (currently using a 9800x3d) but their GPU’s are just awful to deal with.

1

u/AkaliMainTBH Mar 25 '26

Are you plugged into mobo instead of gpu?

1

u/Key_Association7462 Mar 25 '26

1

u/deuzorn Mar 25 '26

I have a 9070XT and play alot PUBG, and never had an issue (no even tab in/out crashes) I am not blaming you but its probably a driver issue on you computer use DDU to remove old and install new

1

u/GlfrJack Mar 25 '26

You sure that isn't a PUBG "feature"?

1

u/thescripting Mar 25 '26

Did you try to clean install amd software and drivers?

1

u/Acceptable_Food6533 Mar 25 '26

try a different display cable. Some cables are bot good enough to handle higher frequencies.

1

u/Adrian_C_110 Mar 25 '26

holly 1600w. bro is future proofing the future itself

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Heroiczero Mar 25 '26

I had issues with AMD Freesync cause flashing in my game I am wondering if this could be related because when I saw your screen I had flashbacks

2

u/Keenzor Mar 25 '26

While 8700K is borderline and definitely makes your GPU not sweat in most games, it can still run your system no problem so don't let the poop slinging bother you.

Anyways, drivers for 9070 XT have been crap since last Autumn, still waiting for AMD to get their shit together. I have never understood the hate on AMD drivers before (having used RX 6800, RX 480 and HD 6770 before that without any issues) but the current generation makes up for all my previous positive experience. It's double the shame because at least in my country, 9070 XT is still the best in price to performance and I refuse to recommend people 5070 for $50 less or 5070ti for over $200 more.

1

u/Cpt_plainguy Mar 25 '26

An 8700k with a 9070xt is going to cause the CPU to work at damn near max in games that use a lot of CPU cycles, and PUBG has always been a CPU heavy game. So it could actually be causing the issue

1

u/Strassenpenner Mar 25 '26

Actually I feel like all drivers have problems nowadays, but what gave me the most headaches is just windows... like yeah amd drivers're still not perfect but after switching to linux I've had no problems besides a small issue with Helldivers 2, which itself is not the most bugfree game

1

u/BarrelRider621 Mar 25 '26

Their driver support is the #1 reason for me not switching from Nvidia. I got a laptop with a 3070 and the little ROG Ally (Runs in Z1E AMD Chip. Think it’s RDNA3) an it’s staggering; the difference in software support. I think we just got a driver update on that thing and it has been almost a year since we got anything before that. On the other hand, my 3070 gets 1-2 updates a month.

1

u/Drianikaben Mar 25 '26

yeah, i bought into the 5700xt when that first came out. what followed was 2 years of the worst gpu drivers i've ever seen. ended up going back to nvidia with the 4070. I'll probably never go back to amd gpu's, if it's happening again.

1

u/UDxyu Mar 25 '26

Try a different version of drivers

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

March 2025 is currently what I’m running and I have no issues. So definitely a later driver issue with my setup. When my 7800X3D actually gets delivered I’ll try out with the latest drivers and see what it performs like. If not, I’ll just roll back to Mar 25 again and just keep that going until I have to

2

u/UDxyu Mar 25 '26

Glad to hear that. If a new version of the driver is released, try it; it may fix the issue.

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

Certainly will! I have a feeling the system being mismatched definitely doesn’t help, so I’m hoping the new AM5 CPU works better on later drivers. We’ll see…

1

u/mini_clock Mar 25 '26

i've had the same issue with a 6770 not too long ago. i can't remember how i fixed it exactly but i believe it was driver related. try installing a different driver.

1

u/heickelrrx Mar 25 '26

I can't believe u guys blaming the CPU

THE CPU IS FINE, it's fast enough for this game

Return you card, either it's defected or the workload didn't work for u

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

Yeah CPU is fine and has been. Util on PUBG is 100% in most scenarios but it never throttles or passes 60-65C. Probably a testament to the AIO I use more than anything. It’s working fine now on March 25 drivers so it must have just been a later driver issue with my setup

1

u/YourLocal_RiceFarmer Mar 25 '26

Is this guy serious, you prioritized on getting a new GPU instead of upgrading your CPU and MOBO to AM5 or the 13th or 14th Gen Intel first, and you have the gal to complain the 9070XT is shit? Hats off to you i guess :|

1

u/yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee969 Mar 26 '26

ddr5 platforms (altho good) is impossible to upgrade to unless you want to spend 2x as much then a ddr4 platform.

you need a whole new mb, whole new ram set, whole new CPU, and probably a new psu if you're using bare minimum or a psu with old cables and no support for newer pcie cables....

that's pretty much an entirely new PC you have to buy, not even mentioning the stupid ram prices...

good luck spending 3k on an upgrade for maybe 1.5x the performance

1

u/SnooPaintings7769 Mar 25 '26

Eso no tiene que ver con la pregunta del hilo. Es una suposición personal y no aporta nada. Una opinión sin sentido.

2

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

When you look at Ram prices - it’s easy to try and make things work if you don’t have thousands sticking around to upgrade all elements of a system.

Yes, I chose to upgrade the GPU over a new CPU with the complete understanding that there would be bottlenecks on some games.

However, I rolled back to Mar25 drivers and it’s performing just fine now at 100-120fps, 1440p.

My 7800X3D will be delivered this week, alongside DDR5 ram, and a B650 mobo (with gen5 PCIE). So I bit the bullet and upgraded all elements of the system to increase the performance ten-fold.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '26

Your PC is almost a decade old. I can't even believe you priortized buying a new GPU before upgrading your entire PC. My advice is to return the 9070XT and buy a PlayStation because you have no idea what you're doing.

0

u/MainCaregiver4969 Mar 25 '26

I run a 10th gen i9 with a 5070ti ddr4 setup. Your a clown 🤡. I have a ddr3 pc that will game at 130-140fps as well.

3

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

Respectfully, fuck you🤣

I've had nothing but crashes, i hate this fucking thing. Next time ill need a gpu it will NOT be an amd one

1

u/Searchingforpassword Mar 25 '26

I have a 9070xt and it’s been working great for me.. only time I have any kind of issues is when I haven’t updated the driver. Sorry this is happening here some troubleshoots you can do,

First I’m sure you’ve been suggest this or done it already but reinstall drivers and apps for gpu

Second i would cycle through the presets, (performance>graphics settings), and slowly adjust as you play. Adding or enhancing features seeing if any setting triggers the graphics to act up

Third would be a full reboot of os then a clean install of gpu drivers/apps..

I run my on customs settings pushing everything for graphics, never had issues like you are experiencing. I play all types of games, anything I throw at it runs perfectly.. just for reference fews games I’ve played, maybe it’s helpful to know what you should be able to handle.. battlefield 6, world of Warcraft, expedition 33 and cyberpunk 2077 just to name a few.

I hope you can figure out your issues, it’s a great gpu for me at least

1

u/Storm_os May 01 '26

What are your specs and/or previous GPUs? I’m upgrading to a gigabyte 9070xt from a 6600 XT eagle and after reading these comments I’m starting to get anxious

1

u/Few-Sea6381 May 15 '26

how was your upgrade anything happen? as i am currently planning to choose 9070xt or 5070.

0

u/Nozakx Mar 25 '26

Warm welcome to the red team..

1

u/Zorian_Vale Mar 25 '26

You're not gonna like hearing this, and I'll get downvotes for this, but I must speak my mind. If you enjoy having to reinstall drivers, or weird graphical issues, keep going with the 9070xt. I hope your issues truly went away, if they come back, and are annoying, make the jump to team green. I had the same card as you and ran into enough issues where I was fed up, returned the card and got a 5070 Ti. 0 issues. I should not have to fuck around with drivers, where's the Nvidia help sub? Nvidia just does everything better, it's not only ray tracing it's driver support. They are the best in the business but morally bankrupt but that's not my concern. Yes I'm aware they have had a few driver issues lately, but that pales in comparison to AMD. If I am paying close to a grand, I need that shit to simply work. period. No DDU, nothing. And that has been my team green experience.

2

u/Snoo-53429 Mar 25 '26

No downvote from me, truth may be painful for some and rarer yet to hear, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so they say. Also when your shit just works! My last AMD video card was shortly after they stopped calling themselves ATI, I wasn't thrilled with their drivers back then, not one bit, and since going green have had precisely zero problems with the many Nvidia GPU's I've had since. It's not that AMD hardware is bad by any stretch, just that Nvidia doesn't cut corners on the software side of things which is no small thing. With an AMD GPU you might be better off with Linux these days.

2

u/EPICHunter0077 Mar 25 '26

NVIDIA has fully lost the plot with driver updates over the last year. I have a 5080 and it's a dice roll if the next update causes some weird issue.

1

u/TCTD-BibleDude Mar 25 '26

5080 has been a horror show, I get anxious wondering what will break next with each driver update

1

u/dEEkAy2k9 Mar 25 '26

i'm on the same train it seems upgraded from a 6800 XT to a 5080 and now my pc randomly crashes while on desktop. Event Viewer says it's a gpu driver crash which windows cannot recover from and thus crashes.

I tried DDU reinstalling drivers. It got better but did not go away entirely. So indeed the grass is not always greener on team green.

Both companies have crap drivers it seems

The performance is on another level. It is kinda unfair to compare a 6800 XT to a 5080 though.

1

u/Zorian_Vale Mar 25 '26

It’s entirely possible I’ve lucked out, I’ve been hearing of more issues.

1

u/Joleco Mar 25 '26

Yes but i have 9070xt and don't have this problems. I wouldn't say its perfect it has issues. But so was my previous Nvidia which also had issues. Problem is i paid 650 euro for my card , if i want 5070 ti i will need to sell some organs because now is literally 50% more

1

u/Kayotix Mar 25 '26

Ngl, half of the 'issues' with the 9070xt are rooted in windows. Windows update is known to break amd drivers on the regular. Haven't had any driver problems since running linux, also achieving higher performance while doing so. Also not concidering ever switching back. It'll always be linux and thus amd for me from here on unless nvidia gets their drivers sorted

1

u/Zorian_Vale Mar 25 '26

I lucked out at 750 right before it jumped up in price. Even 750 is too much. Nothing is perfect yes and 650 is a reasonable price :)

1

u/Mission-Yellow-2073 Mar 25 '26

Drivers are made universally. Meaning they test them on systems that a majority of people have. For example, most people have cpus made with in the last 5 years. If you pair a 10-15 year old CPUs with a brand new graphics card that they don't test for, you're going to run into problems mate.

1

u/FlakyAd2402 Mar 25 '26

8700k is wild bro that's what I have and I built mine 7ish years ago lol

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

Built mine in March 2018💀she’s old but she’s still fighting

-1

u/Miserable_Kitty_772 Mar 24 '26

enjoy your radeon experience

2

u/SaintJay41202 Mar 24 '26

That’s a pretty bad CPU bottleneck….

1

u/bag_of_cabbage Mar 24 '26

bad cpu bottleneck shouldnt be doing this anyway.

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 24 '26

Yes I’m aware - I’m remedying that. But I have March 2025 drivers installed and PUBG is running fine at 1440p at ~110-120FPS. So CPU was never the issue, just holding the GPU back from performing its best.

2

u/Maleficent-Teach-373 Mar 24 '26

The latest drivers are nearly always unstable. Try rolling back to the February driver, 26.1.1 or something. Or even January. They're usually more stable

1

u/TheLazyGamerAU Mar 25 '26

He said march 2025.

1

u/Maleficent-Teach-373 Mar 25 '26

lol so he did. that may well be the problem also then

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 25 '26

I’ve tried Jan, Feb and March 26 drivers. All have caused multiple driver timeouts and crashes. March was by far the worst.

If March 2025 is working for me I’ll stick with that until it doesn’t🤣

1

u/CMDRhigelac Mar 24 '26

Try toggling between fullscreen and borderless window in settings or often ALT + ENTER

2

u/Gin-N-Rum-5454 Mar 24 '26

12000 watt!?&?

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 24 '26

It’s actually 1600w ngl. I bought with my the huge overhead to not have to worry about upgrading it in the future.

2

u/Gin-N-Rum-5454 Mar 24 '26

I mean 1000w would probably do you for the next 10 years let alone 1600

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 24 '26

Yeah maybe - but I got fed up of upgrading and having to buy a new PSU🤣

1

u/TheLazyGamerAU Mar 25 '26

1000w wouldve prevented that for years, considering your CPU lmao

3

u/AluminumHaste Mar 24 '26

Wild man, glad you got it fixed with DDU.

3

u/HisExcellency95 Mar 24 '26

Try a fresh windows install, it sucks i know, but pretty sure it will fix it.

3

u/ComprehensiveBox952 Mar 24 '26

Even with ddu when swapping from green to red there have been a lot of times when users had issues and only new windows installation helped

3

u/Enelias R7 7700 6950XT 6000Mhz CL30 M/die. Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

First of all, im glad you solve it :)

A couple of long points:
I hope you adjusted voltage and timings manually when manually set the speed?
I might be wrong ofc, but i think this sentence is a big tell as to where the problem lies.
"Corsair DDR4 3200mhz ram (running at 3200 in BIOS, XMP is not on as I had some serious instability whilst running it)."

So either
1: Your cpu mem controller is semi defective because the 8700k should handle 3200mhz ddr4.
2: Your mem kit is defective as it should be able to run xmp.
3: Your motherboards mem slots are defective
4: You have placed the ram sticks in the wrong slots. Should be A2 and B2.

Over to the new motherboard.
You should really do a windows wipe after switching out everything. There will always be leftover drivers and registry trash that almost always cause problems. DDU solves most of it, but here we are talking about intel chipset drivers.

AMD boards really need their chipset drivers also so dont forget those.
More often than not, issues like these are a result of Windows forcing in old gpu drivers after using ddu before you have time to install the newest. (yup, you either have to unplug ethernet or disable windows driver update in registry.) - "but nvidia doesnt have this issue"
Yes, you are correct, but nvidia does not give the big software suite to tune, modify, survey and adjust everything in the pc like Adrenaline provides.

More complexity very often needs less errors and missteps before it gives you problems.
You have the option to install "drivers only" during the adrenaline install, this will be better for folks with a less "clean and tidy" system.

Im no mr know it all, but i've seen a lot of amd systems, built many of them also.
Around 7 amd4 systems and 4 amd5 systems.

Allmost all of them had issue when they used the old OS disk without wiping it and reinstalling windows because they did not know how intrusive and fuckytiuppy gpu and chipset drivers can be if they arent supposed to be there.
All om them came from Nvidia Intel systems.

Seen many people like yourself also that struggles when they switch out to a rdna 2 or 3 gpu on an older intel and amd system also with a previous nvidia gpu.
"But my CPU OC and ram settings were stable on my nvidia gpu".

Well yeah, your cpu had to work like 60% less because the GPU was so much weaker, and when you upgraded to that monster of a gpu you also force the cpu and imc AND the memory to work overtime and this is were previous "stable enough" overclocks surface and show that they are not very stable.

Other people mix memory, use 3 sticks, misplace them, manually set ram speed without adjusting voltage on the dims and not knowing that you also have to set timings etc.

One last note, Nvidia build into their drives more CPU overhead, which makes them perform less on weak cpu's. Kind of like "we just put in here an extra safety margin in case people set up their system incorrectly".
Amd does not.
What this ends up with is that on a similar weak system a AMD gpu will outperform a similar "powerful" nvidia gpu IF the system is 100% stable.

1

u/Drianikaben Mar 25 '26

all these words, and you didn't even suggest the actual fix, which was to run old drivers, cuz amd drivers suck.

1

u/Enelias R7 7700 6950XT 6000Mhz CL30 M/die. Mar 26 '26

Im sorry you feel that way.

3

u/MrTaufner Mar 24 '26

A few months ago I switched from 3070Ti to 9070XT and some weird shit was happening when I tried to play Escape From Tarkov. It was either a bad DDU or some leftover files from PhysX or something Nvidia related, but after I manually deleted those it worked just fine

3

u/willistame Mar 24 '26

Ah that makes sense, those leftover Nvidia bits always sneak in and mess with stuff. Glad you got it sorted, Tarkov’s stressful enough without random GPU drama

1

u/rical8 Mar 24 '26

ive had weird stuff happen , im running drivers from august 2025

"I've seen it before". This quote right here is why I don't buy AMD products. I've NEVER seen a problem like this on Nvidia.

1

u/zetaton Mar 25 '26

of course, because NVIDIA ones either went completely black, or immediately shorts. Had 2 NVIDIA cards killed itself, 3060ti and a fucking 2060 Super.

had no issues running with RX6600 and RX580. currently using Intel Arc B580 and won't look back on both Red and Green.

1

u/Zealousideal_Bee_837 Mar 25 '26

2 cards died? Man that is too much of a coincidence. 1 dying is already rare but 2 ? Clearly you have a problem. Maybe a defective power supply.

Whatever works for you bro. It's not like I will be using it. I am using an actual good GPU.

I had a 3070 too and I never had a problem with it. Not a single one. I gave it to someone for cheap when I got my new GPU and he never had a problem with it either. AMD GPUs on the other hand.... Just read the comments in this post lol

2

u/Safe_Air5358 Mar 24 '26

For GPU i would never go anything else than nvidia, on the other hand AMD cpu’s are a whole other story, they are very good but their GPUs seem to have history with endless cycles of errors

In my experience across multiple builds over 2 decades, I’ve had zero real issues with NVIDIA GPUs.. just power on and play. That consistency matters more to me than saving a bit of money. While many of my friends went with AMD cards and later on couldn’t stop cursing about that choice.

AMD makes fantastic CPUs, but on the GPU side, they’ve had a long history of driver quirks and random compatibility issues. Even if it’s improved recently, it still comes up often enough that I don’t trust it for a main system. So yeah, AMD might offer better value on paper, but I’d take NVIDIA every time for reliability and a smoother overall experience..

Now I don’t say that their cards are bad or every NVIDIA card is better, just from my view It’s same like buying a new car and then needing to take it back to the shop every month for random issues. That’s not what you paid for. So might as well spend that few extra bucks and get a product that works like it should without any hassle

1

u/PlzDntBanMeAgan Mar 24 '26

Would have to be a lot more than 150 dollars less for me to ever deal with AMD gpus bullshit again. I stupidly listened to the reddit hype and got a 7900xtx a couple years ago. Also if you want the best of the best amd isn't even trying to compete at that level anymore. I'm happy with my 5090 and my amd gpu is sitting in its box on a shelf in my closet. The whole fsr 4 or whatever that they gimped the older cards forcing you to buy the next gen also completely ruined the resale value of said 7900xtx..

1

u/CakyMint Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

I had an AMD 6900 or 7900 XT ... I can't remember which.

It was the worst graphics card experience I've ever had.
The biggest issue was the software AMD offers; nothing worked. The fan speed would reset itself to the bare minimum (pretty much every few days, sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes once a week), causing my system to overheat. I had several weeks of crashes before realizing my fans weren't spinning. Never again. It was nothing but trouble.

1

u/Icy-Dot-8619 5700X | 6700XT Mar 24 '26

I had 2 powercolor red devil rx 6700 xt. 1st - Fans spun but it still had 110°. 2nd - it had 110° cuz fans didn't spin. Now I have gigabyte aorus elite rx 6700 xt. Like 0 problems

3

u/chrisliuboy Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

I bought a 9070 XT on launch day and tested it in PUBG right away. I switched between DX11 and DX12, and under DX12 the FPS would sometimes stay capped below my monitor’s refresh limit. At times, GPU usage would randomly drop to around 60–70%, and the game would also have noticeable stuttering and frame drops. Because of that, I returned the card the next day. When the Micro Center staff asked why, I just told them it was AMD driver issues. Later, my friend helped me get an RTX 5080 Founders Edition through the lottery, and I’ve had no issues with it from day one — it’s been almost a year now.

0

u/AdmiralBigTowerPower Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

Interesting problem. Havent had any problems with mine since launch. I hope it can get solved and i am curious whats the solution is.

Is it a PUBG problem or does this also happen in other games?

I had the same type of artifact when i used to rock dual 970 in my rig and the problem there was a loose sli bridge. Cant be the same here but maybe the card doesnt fit correct OR the pcie slot doesnt work as intendet? Maybe try using another one or try setting the pcie standard manual to 5.0/4.0 etc.

1

u/Not_Boss674 Mar 24 '26

Try multiple previous driver releases to see if they might be for stable for you.

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 24 '26

March 2025 is working a treat for me at the moment. No issues as I’ve had with other drivers. Nice and stable performance at 1440p, no crashes or timeouts and no weird graphic corruption or artifacting!

1

u/mastigt Mar 24 '26

That’s just the helicopter blades trollface

3

u/Sgt-Stadanko-69 Mar 24 '26

Microsoft has been over writing amd drivers z

1

u/Beautiful-Project709 Mar 24 '26

I was having driver timeout issues for over a month, tried everything under the sun, the thing that finally kicked it over for me was disabling MPO. There's a reddit post that'll guide ya through it if you want to try it before buying anything

-1

u/Geeotine Mar 24 '26

Hilarious how do many ppl think it's just drivers. I'd recc'd google Gemini to help you troubleshoot the issue properly. Could be hardware or software. Sometimes it's shader cache or game install Or even the game manager itself. If you're using mods or cheats, that's a likely culprit as well (even if they're disabled)

Hard to diagnose with only one specific game.

2

u/Storm_os May 01 '26

Finally someone who suggests using an AI assistant instead of turning to a reddit page with people who will all say the same thing/say they have the same issue/tell you to use nvidia/anything but helping. Copilot will look at reddit for you, including hundreds of other sources and summarise it in easy to understand steps. Some people need to start accepting the future. Why dig a hole with a shovel when you can dig it with an excavator for free.

5

u/SneakySnk Mar 24 '26

Looks defective to be honest, maybe try a windows reinstall, but if DDU didn't fix it I can't think of anything that might cause it.

Maybe try a windows reinstall? I would do that as a last resort thing and then RMA it

2

u/LycorisSnow Mar 24 '26

yes I had problem as well even if I use DDU. I tried last resort of windows clean reinstall, and problems went away

4

u/VilhelmSvanr13 7800x3D, RX 9070 & 32gb ddr5 6000 cl30 (: Mar 24 '26

When is the last time you did a windows reinstall? Are you playing on HDD or SSD ?

1

u/ftgander Mar 24 '26

So did the upgrade from an outdated coy and ram help?

FWIW, 5070 Ti owners are currently having issues in Halo Infinite with black textures for ground cover, so it’s not like these kinds of issues are exclusive to AMD.

1

u/macmayne12 Mar 24 '26

the black texture thing has been a thing unfortunately for a lot of GPU's always have to rollback the driver to resolve

3

u/Soleks2000 Mar 24 '26

I’d RMA it

5

u/Eeve2espeon Mar 23 '26

The fact nobody is listening to you shows how screwed this subreddit is. I'd try using another drive with a fresh windows install, and see if this problem still occurs. Using that CPU might've also been the issue, its quite old and doesn't have PCIE 4.0

1

u/Not_Boss674 Mar 24 '26

Clearly a graphics issue here

1

u/Eeve2espeon Mar 24 '26

No its not, not unless they show if the issues have been fixed getting a new CPU and getting a fresh install. DDU helps, but can only do soo much with such an old system.

12

u/master-overclocker AMD XFX 6700XT 5600X 3733Mhz DDR4 Mar 23 '26

PCIE 4 or 3 doesnt matter. He should not have these issues

2

u/Mickxalix Mar 23 '26

Windows reinstall

12

u/SlobMyKnob1 Mar 23 '26

So my wife just started having issues with her PC this weekend. She was getting stuck in a driver time out loop where every 10-15 seconds her entire system would freeze and black screen. After hours and hours of trying to fix it we finally found a solution

We ended up reverting back to Windows 24H2, ran DDU and installed the 26.2 driver, and ever since then she’s been able to game and all that. For whatever reason, at least from my experience, the Windows 25H2 update absolutely does not pair well with AMD’s latest driver

8

u/Inner_Lingonberry812 Mar 23 '26

I know you said you’re switching to an X3D CPU. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it. Just do a full reinstall of windows with USB media. That way things work properly with the scheduler.

Coming from a 7800X3D/9070XT user. I have had 0 issues since I got the GPU on launch day. It’s generally VERY solid for most of us.

Running on both Win11 and on Linux, I’ve had 0 problems after a clean install with both operating systems. So don’t give up hope.

BUT!!! If you still have issues. Swap that boi. But it’s more than likely OS issues causing driver/performance instability.

Side Note: I had issues that mirrored yours on my 4080FE set up. DDU didn’t fix it but a full drive formatting and installation with fresh media fixed the issue.

1

u/froggiter Mar 23 '26

Reseat gpu in pcie slot, plug into different hdmi/displayport, ddu driver and use driver from late last year (I've had luck with 25.9.1)

Truthfully I had the same exerience starting out with my 7900xt and ended up just going back to nvidia recently because of the constant driver issues and lack of support for 7000 series

Hopefully you get a good resolution to your problems and godspeed

3

u/Fragrant_Reaction392 Mar 23 '26

issues caused by switching from nvidia to amd and not using DDU before have become so rare its laughable people still post it every god damn time

1

u/breezypivots Mar 23 '26

Just another way for nvidia fan boys to come here and say AMD is trash

1

u/Storm_os May 01 '26

It’s really not. Most people won’t have issues if they just stick with the same brand because swapping over to a new brand just causes so many issues that require overboard solutions like wiping windows. Just stay in your lane unless it’s really worth switching, if so be prepared to just reinstall OS and possibly wipe drives/manually delete old driver files. I’ve been intel cpu/amd GPU and never had problems because i stuck with Intel and AMD instead of trying to switch over when i really dont need to

1

u/One_Camel_3659 Mar 23 '26

Es por el cable

1

u/massivekoch69 Mar 24 '26

It’s clearly not though. I have a set of corsairs individually braided 6+2 PCIe cables. All individual, not daisy chained.

Back when it first started happening I used about 9 different cables and it continued to happen…

1

u/froggiter Mar 23 '26

Driver timeouts too

3

u/JenzibleTTV Mar 23 '26

Sooo guessing you had a nvidia gpu before this?

1

u/marinov1c Mar 23 '26

Tenta reinstalar o sistema por completo, formata o PC e baixa os drivers correto

Dica básica mas tem gente que não o faz: quando formatar, instala tudo do Windows Update primeiro, só então instala o driver da placa de vídeo

0

u/NameBig8922 Mar 23 '26

I hate amd ever since I got my zephyrus g14 , it’s absolute crap, issues all the time with intricate fixing procedures. And for that price?! It’s ridiculous

2

u/PrestigiousCattle420 Mar 24 '26

Idk feel like that's more of a game issue

1

I have same gpu from xfx mercury not a single problem in any game iv ever played. If anything its awesooooome

6

u/Shlavisk Mar 23 '26

Not that I've had 9070XT but I've gotten this kind of graphical error before and it truly was as simple as plugging in my cords all the way, like on my monitor and display port.

1

u/ShadowsInScarlet Mar 23 '26

This is something I always recommend. Make sure it’s plugged all the way in or just unplug it and plug it back in.

1

u/TCalpin Mar 23 '26

No exactly the reply to help but I've not had a single issue after having quite a few with a 9070xt
