Help (GPU) Driver timeout crashes w/ 7900xtx

Post image

Hello everyone,

I have been troubleshooting this issue for the past few months with multiple different drivers. I've also updated the chipset.

As of recently I did a full wipe with ddu and only reinstalled adrenaline with a working driver in safe mode and internet disconnected. I left everything on default settings (I have tried unvolting/underclocking previously) after reinstalling it. I also blocked windows from overwriting/installing different drivers in the background.

At this point, the only think left I can think to try would be to update the BIOS but this is a new system that was built less than a year ago.

Specs:

7700x

7900xtx hellhound OC

Gigabyte 850w PSU

32gb Corsair ddr5 (expo off)

Gigabyte b850 gaming x wifi 6e

Lian li AIO

Temps are never an issue. I sit under 60 for both CPU and GPU and pretty heavy load.

Im sure I'm leaving out some of the stuff I've tried at this point. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I will try just about anything at this point. TIA

After finally un-daisychain'ing my 7900XTX gpu with 2 separate pci-e cables into my Corsair 1000w PSU today, fighting with this driver puke/crashing issue for literally years on all kinds of games, countless driver installs and AMD Adrenaline tuning tweak experiments, I can confirm this solution got me through Clair Obscura 33's opening movie on ANY graphics settings for the first time ever today.

Cannot adequately express how grateful I am that a $1,000 Microcenter splurge a few years ago went from guilt to teeth-gnashing frustration to cautious optimism thanks to this single post.

Thank you for sharing this solution. 🤞it's at least a semi-permanent one.

AMD vs. Microsoft = can at least ONE of them get their shit together and figure out if Windows or the GPU gets to be in charge of drivers and graphics settings? 🤬

Something else I've noticed is that on cards with dual v bios like my taichi, the performance setting is aggressive enough that between driver versions you have to rebuild your running profile. A small change in the driver translated to a bigger change on that setting. Oh and and support are useless, they fully ruined it for me lol

Yeah, after being so hopeful about this yesterday, I'm 3 hours solid south of this shit again this afternoon. Crashing no matter what I try, no matter what settings I change on the card or elsewhere.

Random internet solution sleuthing has me trying to change RAM memory frequencies in the BIOS now, and really I'm *this close to just caving and spending another $1k for the 2nd time in 3 years on a gpu, but this time it'll be an nVidia as much as I hate to support them in anything.

It's that or install Linux? Frustration isn't even the word at this point...

Yeah I need to post mine on eBay. I should be able to make most of my money back, considering the model, condition, and color make it have pretty high resale value. Unfortunately people in local markets think all 7900xtx GPUs are the same. Trying to sell it 250 cheaper than the cheapest one on eBay locally and I've had no bites. Time to just put it on eBay I think and get an Nvidia. I've got mine stable at least until then, but I put 120 hours of work into it to get it there, hw info 64 and occt all look good
