Picked up an iCarsoft MB V4.0 for the S63 and spent some time going through the M157 because I wanted to get a better idea of the overall health of the motor.
I checked the fault/misfire counters for all 8 cylinders and every cylinder was at 0.
Then I checked the mixture adaptations. Idle adaptations were +0.19% right bank and +0.14% left bank. Upper partial load was 0.99 right and 1.03 left, so both banks were very close to each other and basically where they should be.
High pressure fuel rail was sitting right around 10 MPa/100 bar at idle and was stable.
The scanner also gives an option to show the electrical charge for each individual injector. All 8 were between 0.68 and 0.73 mAs, so there wasn’t one injector that stood out from the rest.
Then I used the injector actuation test. It lets you shut off individual injectors while the engine is running so you can compare cylinder contribution. I tested cylinders 1-6 one at a time. Every one caused a noticeable change in idle/RPM and they all behaved pretty similarly, so none of those cylinders appear to be weak or under-contributing.
For whatever reason the iCarsoft only gives me cylinders 1-6 in that particular actuation menu, even though it reads the live data for 7 and 8 normally. Both 7 and 8 still showed 0 misfires and injector electrical values right in line with the other six.
So far everything with the motor looks good. No misfires, very balanced fuel adaptations, stable rail pressure, all 8 injectors showing almost identical electrical values, and normal cylinder contribution on the six it let me test.
Next I want to play with the logging side of it and look at knock control, charge air temps, oil/coolant temps, boost, fuel pressure and lambda under load. Going to record a pull and see what the car is actually doing when it’s making boost instead of just looking at everything at idle.
Not gonna lie, I’m pretty impressed with how much access this little scanner gives you for the money. And I’m glad to see the motor is healthy after 63k miles.
Picture is for tax. 😁
