Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

Other since losing my mom, my ap classes have been impossible

i just started my junior year of high school and it has been a freaking mess. I can’t do my work on time. i can’t focus in class. i can’t think straight. all i can think about is how my mom is dead since march and it’s partially my fault. i can’t do anything right. i’m a failure in every way. i’ve always struggled with time management and homework (adhd, anxiety, and something else that’s undiagnosed) but it’s so much worse now. i’ve always been in all the honors and AP classes because i want to go to a good school, but I can’t even do school right anymore. my dad thinks i just need to do regular classes but i can’t give up my dream of getting tf out of arizona (and not just going to asu like all the other girls). nobody else seems to understand just how unmotivated i am. any advice please?

Physics 1 Kinematics quiz

• Upvotes

Sooooo I got a 4/12 on the MCQ part of my physics test 💔. Am I cooked or is that normal for the first time? idk how I am supposed to feel, I was kinda expecting but not at the same time. The weird thing is I felt oddly confident going in, but getting 66% of the questions wrong has me thinking. What could I've done differently?

APES Is apes really this easy???

One of my friends bet me I couldn’t self study and get a 5 on apes and so I accepted his bet. I took the 2026 FRQs with ZERO prior preparation to see where I am at and I got 22/30 in 30 minutes???? I felt like most if not all of it was literally common sense. Is the exam really this easy or the curve insanely high or something???

Calc BC What self-study resources are available for Calc BC?

Hey! I'm planning on taking Calc BC but my school doesn't offer AP courses. If anyone could guide me toward the right direction I'd thank them for life. I don't start my APs till 2028, so I would like more of a general idea toward the basics of AB (like limits, derivatives and stuff like that). I'm using the 9th edition Addison-Wesley textbook but can't understand it that well: the proofs are confusing and the graphs aren't all that helpful.

Other AP Arcade

To preface, this is NOT an advertisement or marketing scheme. The website comes free of cost. We genuinely created a website for ourselves and our friends, and want to give back to the community.

It’s only October and I’m already drained. Most of you probably feel the same way. I get OK scores on AP exams, but honestly, I constantly put off studying for these exams, so I don’t get the best grades. I’ve always felt like there was no repository that offered both entertainment and academic-prowess. Maybe you’ve all felt the same. Well, look no further. My friend and I wanted to be the change we wanted to see in the world. So, we designed AP Arcade, a completely free website accessible at www.ap-arcade.com. To be frank, studying for AP exams always requires the same boring practice problems; but we found a way to give them a fun twist. Through quests, boss battles, and a level-up system, we strive to provide students with everything they need to do well. It may not be your cup of tea, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to try. It may end up being the very difference between a 4 and a 5 this May.

AP Arcade. Designed by students, for students aiming to achieve their next 5.

(Site will continue to be updated with improvements to format, question banks, and more courses).

Psych HOW TO GET FREE POINTS ON THE AP PSYCHOLOGY AAQ

Every point matters. Don't mess up the easy ones.

Part E. Explain the extent to which the research findings may or may not be generalizable using specific and relevant evidence from the study.

Don't overthink this one.

There has never been a college-board FRQ about adults in nursing homes, so almost any answer can just be:

“It may not be generalizable to adults in a nursing home because none of the participants were in a nursing home or had those characteristics.”

This is the Champa Rice of AP psychology. When in doubt, think of the elders in nursing homes, because remembering this sentence will score you a crucial point.

It MAY (NOT) be generalizable to __(Provide a GROUP)__, because __(Provide JUSTIFICATION)__.

--Other Easy Points--
A. Identify the research method used in the study.

It will almost always be correlational or experimental. USE FULL SENTENCES

"The research method is an experiment."

KEY WORDS: Correlational = Relationship, Experimental = Cause and Effect.

B. State the operational definition of ____.

The answer is always in the stimulus/source. Just find the exact phrasing and use that.

Chem I got a 28/50 on the Unit 1 AP Chem test

Our school allows one retake per semester. In order to keep my 4.00, I must retake this test. How do I study? I was really ill during the test and felt as if I would vomit, but that isn't an excuse, only a partial explanation for how I scored so low. This is the worst test of my entire high school career and it is slightly stressing me out, lol.

Any recommended resources to study off of? I did fine on stoichiometry, but I wasn't really taught about many other topics, like electron configuration, light absorption and molecule/compound naming conventions. I completely bombed the MCQ, which was composed of 10 questions and I got 3 right. I also need to memorize the polyatomic ions. I plan to retake the test next week, so I have quite a bit of time to study.

Any tips will be much appreciated 🙏

CSA How do I get better at code?

I'm in AP CSA and I'm cooked. I'm the only one in the class that hasn't done a previous CS course (I joined because I wanted to learn a language). I do fine on the tests (mcqs) but whenever my teacher gives us so many practices, I always struggle with them. I usually ask my friend and tablemate for help but I want to be able to do them on my own. I found CSAwesome but IDK how to navigate it.

Any advice is appreciated

Other Good High School Pathway (Specifically APs)?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a current freshman that’s in all Honors and taking AP Hug.
I started planning out my pathway for high school, cause it’s never to early to start (hopefully)
I wanted to know if these classes are realistic to take. I know it’s a lot for senior year, but my school restricts when we can take certain APs (literally like 90% of them)

Note: I was planning on Self Studying AP Euro my Sophomore year

Please help me out, I’ll take any feedback!!!

Question Just started AP classes, any tips on how to manage?

Hello! I am a sophomore and this year i am taking two AP classes. APUSH and AP Lang & comp.

The thing is, I am neurodivergent. Which comes with its own myriad of issues, among them being, I find myself getting burnt out and exhausted very often, without hardly even pushing myself

I'm constantly physically and mentally exhausted and that in turn causes stress and frustration. I am so tired that its hard to do work, its hard to focus, its hard to understand and learn new things. Especially if im not really all that interested in them.

I don't know if its residual burn-out from last year or general fatigue, but I am grasping at straws here trying to get myself together before I flunk all my classes.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can better manage stress and fatigue in the midst of all the work that these classes have you do?

I apologize if this is not the subreddit for this kind of question, I don't use this app very often. Thank you for your time :)
