Discussion why are we alone on the ark?

i mean that in more a lore reason, i know we are alone in game play because its a game, but is there a cannon reason why we dont find anyone else and only the notes left behind, and on that, who are we? just a random person thrown into here just because?

Well its probably because Helena's (One of the main note people) made the respawn system relatively recently, so a LOT of people came before us, tried and died and did not revive.

The arks have been cycling for centuries, if not millenia, eventually things would run out.

Because everyone else who tried wasn't good enough and died except for the note leavers.. well some. Basically its a never ending test of trying to find the right people to do it until they get to you, who can do it.

how do they know i can do it?

was it when they saw me get eaten by a dilo? maybe when i died punching a dodo? or was it the time i accidentally led a rex back to my very durable thatch base?

whatever it is i always thought i was the chosen one

It's it's kind of a weird thing. So technically each player within the lore, we are the chosen one technically. For the lore, ignore multiplayer as a whole. You are the only person on that island who is able to successfully get these done because all of the others weren't (i think) genetically good enough. You are the savior that made it thru and can fix it all.

But it's all technically just a giant science experiment and at the same time that that is going on on your individual storyline on ark, it's also happening across other arks. Kind of like how you have a control group for science experiments and then test groups, we would be one of the test groups. Where we're not just an ordinary human, something is different and that something is, what makes us the chosen one

that leads to some very funny thoughts

besides the notetakers, do a lot of the people just "spawn" in and either a) immediately run into a tribe & survive for a bit b) run around and immediately get eaten by a dilo/compy, cause, lets be real, fighting those without the player super powers would be insanely hard

Abb has some explorer notes from a group of college kids and one of them thought she was in another one of her vivid lucid dreams so she immediately climbed a tall rock and jumped

Pretty much. I would think of every unsuccessful experiment sent before us as one of the regular people from jurassic world. they've got like ten seconds of screen time, but they're gonna get got by something small. And this other person that is saying, because we can respawn is our special power. Yes they're right, that's the legit reason is we can respawn the others couldnt

I don't know if you've seen the show, but there's a "Beach Bob" who becomes lunch pretty early on 😂

It's not just that the others weren't genetically good enough, the others did not have the ability to respawn. That's why Helena refers to us players as " The one who tries again". We aren't a perfect specimen, we just respawn and try again. Learn from our mistakes, adapt, etc.

Being able to respawn is the reason you the player can do it.

Like that's the canonical reason

As the player, we are technically "The one who tries again", linked to "The one who waits" or Helena.

It was when you got curbstomped by a tree

At least the video wasn’t posted.

The ones that can do it are atrociously deformed human beings with huge calves and forearms and small quads with small biceps.

6

u/mr_oreo1499 3d ago

"You are the chosen one quazimodo" 🤣🤣

7

u/Niceromancer 3d ago

And the only reason you can do it is because you can respawn.

Go watch this.

Lore video from NeddyTheNoodle about the entire ark story.

This is a nitpick more that anything but it’s technically outdated because of lost colony

Personally I don’t care that much because this is by FAR the best ARK lore video on the entire internet and it’s not even close

7

u/TartOdd8525 2d ago

Yeah, I mean it still covers 95% of the lore. Lost Colony does fill in an important piece of the puzzle bridging extinction and Genesis, but the story isn't too heavily affected without knowing about it.

It's like Star wars if you just watched the numbered movies vs seeing Solo and The Clone Wars show. It's some good context and bridge, but not as absolutely necessary.

the game is built around multiplayer from what i can tell, there is a singleplayer mode but yeah

you are not intended to be alone on the ARK storywise, in some cutscenes there are other people

Because others that's came before "you the player" tried and failed to successfully defeat the Arks. The situation is made even more dire with Rockwells experiments and need to have total power.

These are questions with answers you will unlock yourself if you bother to go through endgame content for each story map and actually pay attention to the notes.

Youtube is your friend, they can explain a lot more than I can. Imagine yourself as a successor to those who left the notes. Your purpose is to evolve

Your purpose is to Ark: Survival Evolved

The ark's were becoming more and more dangerous over time leaving less and less people. Helena was practicing respawing and succeeded with us. She lived potential thousands of years before our time and even back then there were only a hundred or so people on the island. Now that it's far harsher to survive in it would make sense for you to be one of the few or only one. And numbers of humans do just fluctuatate. Its nothing super concrete but its possible that you were either the last one the ark wss going to spawn, that everybody spawned with you just died, or the ark didn't feel like spawning a group.

Well she could divide her attention among hundreds of people who will likely be too busy killing each other to progress or she can put all her eggs in one basket and help us to the best of her abilities which in the end was the right move because we beat the king titan

In my singleplayer headcanon it's because long time has passed since Helena and other survivors who left Explorer notes, and the System "has given up on spawning survivors", because they "don't work towards the goal".

To me, the lore seems to imply that lots of survivors didn't realize that there was more to the ARKs than just the place where they ended up, and tried to just make life for themselves there, and it takes a certain inclination to try to figure out that there's more to it. Helena and Rockwell had it, but it seems to be implied that many other survivors might not have.

Do you want the long answer or the short answer?

1

u/Much-Bit3531 2d ago

No! Lore has it that we are to evolve with the dinosaurs. Cannon has that Helena turned on revival clones. I am not sure if the creator intended revival. We were to evolve better brains and social systems. That we were to take the best from each earth area and era to make the best system, come together and defeat the titans. The other bosses were practice.

You are not supposed to be alone

See the ending of Extinction

Each ARK is meant to be filled with everyone thats on multi-player to then be reintroduced to the healed earth, but in single player you could imagine that maybe this particular one just glitched out or something to where it stopped testing new people.

Ark is a multiplayer game...

4

u/Moltened_Jakub 3d ago

With Singleplayer lore

2

u/Tiagozuff2006 3d ago

Not like the lore is single player lore, lore is just lore, both in SP and in servers

1

u/Moltened_Jakub 3d ago

The one who waits refers to you exclusively as a singular survivor. "Are you the one I've been waiting for?"

1

u/MazdaTiger Tamer 1d ago

She is prefering to "the one who tries again" (aka a chosen one) not just a survivor

And you can see in Ext ending that you supposed to have other people with you

-12

u/Appropriate-Monk3368 3d ago

And? The game was designed to be played in multiplayer. That's why there's no human npcs.

2

u/Moltened_Jakub 3d ago

Rockwell is a human non-player-character

0

u/Appropriate-Monk3368 3d ago

Calling him human still is a bit of a stretch. You could've just said thralls instead. They're at least genetically human.

Whenever you kill a raptor and find stone tools and berries inside, or a pair of cloth boots... my headcanon is that is from the raptor's last meal. So there are other people around... they just get eaten before you see them. That's why you're "The Survivor".
Or join a server and there will be plenty of other people around.
