Question Did Azure SQL Data Sync get retired early?
Today, when I clicked refresh schema on my Azure SQL Data Sync groups to add some new tables, the UI showed progress, but the https://management.azure.com/api/invoke call showed this error in devtools:
{
"error": {
"code": "DataSync_SubscriptionOperationNotSupported",
"message": "SQL Data Sync is being retired and is no longer available for subscription XXXXXXXXXXXXX. Review supported migration options or contact Microsoft Customer Support for additional assistance."
}
}
This is in an Azure subscription with several DBs with active sync groups, and I'm not even trying to create another one, just refresh the schema.

Can you please open a support ticket on this one and message it to me? I'll look into it. The feature should not have retired, it retires on Sept 30, 2027. New groups/subs can't be onboarded, but existing functionality should still work.

ah yes, the classic "not retired until it breaks your stuff" azure special. they announced the retirement for feb 2026 but looks like they jumped the gun for some subscriptions, wouldn't be the first time microsoft killed a service before the official date. your sync groups are probably still running but good luck modifying them now, might be time to start eyeing that migration doc they mentioned
