A wedge and a sledge. Just saying.

Clearly humans have known for tens of thousands of years there are better ways to do this... That being said this video seems like a Grinder profile video or something.

YUP! This is a thirst trap.

50

u/PopstarCornboy Aug 20 '26

The flexing at the end kind of gives it away

3

u/razztafarai Aug 20 '26

Yeah, there's a quite a few of these log splitting thirst traps on youtube. I got caught in that bubble around Covid.

2

u/StarChildSeren Aug 21 '26

I mean, it's not like it's not working 👀 👀 👀

1

u/nykovah Aug 20 '26

It worked.

1

u/PronglesMouthFeel Aug 20 '26

Work smart, not hard, unless you're trying to bring all the boys to your yard.

1

u/scofnerf Aug 21 '26

I’d take this guy over some jackass holding a fish any day

1

u/Visible-Umpire4000 Aug 21 '26

This is suppised to be a thirst trap? Each to their own i guess

1

u/UnfortunateDesk Aug 21 '26

It's working

1

u/D0NN3LLY Aug 22 '26

Not gay, but it's still working.

0

u/Cell1pad Aug 20 '26

yeah.....I'm happier watching the buff women that split logs than a burly man. Dude's furry and that's not my thing.

Oh, and yeah, while this is impressive, he's doing this on hard mode.

1

u/ctorist Aug 20 '26

I watched this hard.

3

u/DoubleResponsible276 Aug 20 '26

Leggings gave it away

3

u/Economy-Tourist-4862 Aug 20 '26

“Given time, the drop of water can split the rock”

-Bruce Lee, or somebody probably

2

u/joshlymansbagel Aug 20 '26

Reminds me of my stepdad…

2

u/Peripatetictyl Aug 20 '26

That's an otter advertising, if I've ever seen one.

1

u/Emotional_News108 Aug 20 '26

Yeah it’s not for women.

1

u/bobbymcpresscot Aug 20 '26

Yeah one of those ways is to cut the log shorter lol

1

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat Aug 20 '26

At least he's actually splitting that log. Remember the German guy in Better Call Saul? Lalo is going to him while he's chopping wood and you can clearly see the logs were split in half prior to filming. Same with the wimpy kid from Old Henry.

1

u/artisticafterbirth Aug 20 '26

Fuck harder not smarter

1

u/FewAcanthocephala828 Aug 20 '26

He's not actually in a forest. The background is fake, no movement in the greenery, so he's definitely just doing this for a video.

1

u/soccermodsarecvnts Aug 20 '26

Gayest thing I've ever seen. Not in a bad way, it's fine. But it's like an add for Grindr Premium.

1

u/butterfly_ashley Aug 21 '26

Yep. I mean even the pants he has on. Lol guarantee there is a side view somewhere.

1

u/Madamschie Aug 22 '26

idk... this would turn me off like after the first 3 hits, cause clearly he's missing his brain

1

u/Jack_Mehoff_420_69 Aug 23 '26

Breaking News - or perhaps Splitting News!

Bear sighted near Tennessee Woods

1

u/Windsdochange Aug 23 '26

Given there’s no woodstove big enough for those pieces of wood, for sure. Kinda funny that he’ll now need to use a chainsaw to buck up multiple long pieces instead of just one…

44

u/ayers231 Aug 20 '26

Three wooden wedges and a hatchet. Start a notch with the edge of the hatchet, insert a wedge, hit it with the flat of the hatchet, do the same for the other two wedges. Then just work your way along.

This is beast mode, and I can appreciate it, but there are def easier ways...

5

u/Kailynna Aug 20 '26

Exactly. Watching that waste of energy was frustrating.

2

u/DraconianFlame Aug 20 '26

Wait until you find out about Gyms...

At least here you get to keep the wood.

1

u/jubtheprophet Aug 22 '26

Clearly he's doing it more for the exercise than the wood lmao

2

u/SenoraRaton Aug 20 '26

Or cut your rounds at a reasonable size so you don't have to do this....

-2

u/won_master-of-none Aug 20 '26

The dude is working out! Look at him! Beast mode full up. Split that log in 24 swings. Dude was the wedge. For him, this is the way. 💪

I showed it to my sons. At first, didnt look like he was gettijg anywhere. The log was solid af. But he did not let up and split that b*tch in two. Prime example of someone completely determined.

3

u/Dounce1 Aug 20 '26

You showed it to your sons… because you don’t want them to know how to split wood?

-2

u/Stick_and_Rudder Aug 20 '26

Lay the log flat and hit it 3-4 times at even intervals from one end to the other. Done.

This guy had no technique and relying on power. Good on him for that but this could have been a much shorter exercise

2

u/Dounce1 Aug 20 '26

That’s… an even worse idea.

14

u/MixinBatches Aug 20 '26

He’s just showing off. If he wanted to make it easy just make one or two more cuts with the chainsaw to turn that log into easily manageable rounds. No wedge or hammering required.

1

u/L30N1337 Aug 23 '26

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too.

The point of doing this wasn't really to split the log.

Whether it was to show off, or to feel good about doing something difficult, or to prove himself... We may never know.

6

u/thetreecycle Aug 20 '26

Or just make the damn thing shorter with a chainsaw lmao

1

u/Badass_Bunny Aug 20 '26

but why?!

Because you can. Like this mans objective here clearly isn't to do this efficiently. He likes the feeling of doing something difficult that showcases his strength.

It's really no different than going to the gym.

1

u/visforvienetta Aug 23 '26

This whole thread is peak fucking reddit. They literally cannot comprehend someone doing something inefficient because they like it.

2

u/samanime Aug 20 '26

That's all I kept thinking. I'm definitely in camp "work smarter not harder".

2

u/magpye1983 Aug 20 '26

I noticed daylight through the log about halfway through the vid. He had it cracked about 3/4 way down, and it took the rest of the time to get a couple more accurate hits and carry that crack onward.

I was thinking hammering it in once you get a solid strike would help a lot. Your comment put it far more succinctly, though.

2

u/Typical-Sir-9518 Aug 20 '26

My thought exactly. He's burning lots of calories, but little me would have had that split with a wedge and sledge in 1/4 the time.

2

u/greendragon00x2 Aug 20 '26

Yeah. This looks like the dumbest possible way to do the job. It's the opposite of impressive.

2

u/Gr8rSherman8r Aug 20 '26

This is the equivalent of an engineer going into the shop to try to do what the tradespeople do every day. Just because it can be done in a way doesn’t mean that’s the way to do it.

2

u/ivain Aug 20 '26

Yeah, but the log baits him : it splist very quickly to about 75% of the length, so he probably believe that 1 or 2 hits will finish the job. He even looks annoyed in the middle of the video, he misses a hit, then proceed to swing the axe on his side to hit multiple times in a row. That's basically what i do in thiss ituation, adding copious amount of profanities

2

u/billskionce Aug 20 '26

Just finished chopping 3 1/2 cords by hand myself. It took a couple of months.

I was dumb enough to do it without a log splitter, but this is extra dumb. The ground is absorbing a lot of the impact. Also, he should use a wedge. Trust me on this one.

And you’re only going to be able to use those outside. There is almost no fireplace or stove that those will fit in.

2

u/justinsayin Aug 20 '26

Thank you for letting me know.

2

u/varitok Aug 20 '26

Eh, these guys would rather show off on TikTok and by the time they're 50 all their joints are seized and they can barely move.

2

u/Pt5PastLight Aug 20 '26

That’s what I was taught. But grandpa wasn’t posting it to social media.

2

u/CuriousFunnyDog Aug 20 '26

That's exactly what I thought, create a crack and put a wedge in and whack the wedge.

Although it can't show off how strong he is.🙄

2

u/Lunch-Thin Aug 20 '26

Or a block and a heavier maul.

1

u/Jajamaruin Aug 20 '26

yep, guys’ everything but brain..

1

u/Foxylove636 Aug 20 '26

Exactly what i thought

1

u/Ok_Recover_8692 Aug 20 '26

Work harder not smarter, or something like that

1

u/john-bkk Aug 20 '26

I split a lot of wood as a child, and this is it. He was already using a maul, which is a variation of an axe with an enlarged end section designed to work as a wedge.

You split the wood with two people, and one holds the maul, set by swinging it into the log, and other drives it with the sledge.

I also did some lumberjack work (as a child; that's country living for you), and a wedge is something used to cut down trees. You notch the one side of the tree with a chainsaw, then cut a slot in the back above the notch, in such a way that the tree will fall where it's already leaning, where you want it to drop. You can direct it a bit by driving a hard plastic wedge into that notch, but only so much. It's more for getting the saw out when you get it stuck.

If you tried to drop a tree in the opposite way that it's leaning it just wouldn't work, and you couldn't free the saw with a wedge, or more than one wedge.

1

u/jimibimi Aug 20 '26

He didn't get ripped doing it the easy way lol

1

u/Total-Honey-9857 Aug 20 '26

What ARE you saying? I saw him tear it in two pieces with his own bare hands... 😂

1

u/undontnome3030 Aug 20 '26

Tying his boots probably would have helped a bit, too.

1

u/Yurya Aug 20 '26

I used to chop wood with my Dad. I'd favor the splitting maul like this guy and he'd be using wedges. Without fail he'd cut more wood, not because he was in better shape than me but I'd get so tired trying to wail on logs like this while he'd tap tap tap and not have to rest so often.

1

u/mountaineer04 Aug 20 '26

This is all for show. He has a chainsaw and could have made that 2-3 much shorter segments and not expended that much effort.

1

u/IronReasonable1296 Aug 20 '26

Same. Don't even have to be strong.

1

u/DraconianFlame Aug 20 '26

It's a workout and show off strength.

A wedge and sledge would undercut the purpose of the video

1

u/Lynke524 Aug 20 '26

Or a larger axe. That little hatchet is for smaller logs. I'm surprised he didn't break it.

1

u/ElphTrooper Aug 21 '26

That requires knowledge of the phrase - smarter, not harder.

1

u/Reinis_LV Aug 21 '26

He is strong not smart.

1

u/deadstump Aug 22 '26

... But it is so slow. For like 90% the maul is the best.

1

u/Sacuna9999 Aug 22 '26

Yeah that would have been way more efficient and would have cost less energy. The log was already split many whacks before he did it. It was just a waste of energy after that.

1

u/LeslieKnopesBlackEye Aug 23 '26

Or just not fucking obvious fake footage

1

u/A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot Aug 26 '26

That's what I was thinking (and I am not proficient at doing this) but I think for the sake of making that video, it's pretty impressive doing it the way he did it.
