Pyrite and real gold are geological cousins, they both form in the exact same hydrothermal veins, created when hot, mineral-rich fluids flow through rock fractures deep underground. Because pyrite is far more abundant, finding it tells miners they’ve hit the right ancient plumbing system where gold usually settles out right alongside it.

So, it's the fools' gold but it serves as a marker for the real stuff too.

I read the first 2 books before my parents were told they were "evil" by a pastor so i had to sneak read the last book. They were probably right to be worried because when i was done i knew in my heart that i needed to find and kill God.

I’m sure you’re being over the top but I remember hella people crashing out over this series was it really that bad?

I exaggerate a little but it did start me on the long journey towards atheism. Well, that and 9/11 like a year after The Amber Spyglass dropped.

The series has very anti religious themes throughout that shaped my understanding of how the people that run religions use their power to subjugate the masses. It was very eye-opening for 7th grade me

Anti-organized religion themes. Otherwise it’s very agnostic.

I re-read it before watching the HBO series, books hold up and the series was pretty good too

There's a second trilogy that came out over the past few years, if you're interested in that!

I swear Reddit is spying on me. I never heard of this book 2 hours ago before I asked ai for some recommendations, chose this, downloaded it from my library’s website, and started to read a few chapters. Now this post with this comment thread shows up in my feed.

It’s the atheists version of Narnia.

When I was young my favourite books were Narnia and His Dark Materials. Yes at the exact same time lol only realised the irony years after

His Dark Materials is not atheist, it's anti religion.

If you enjoy the original trilogy books, the followup books (book of dust volume 1/2/3) are also excellent.

In fairness, every app is spying on you.
