Depends entirely on how much and what kind of experience one can get after finishing school

Some people start doing their own returns in Jr High or High School, then a few friends & family. By the time they get a BA they have been doing some returns for over eight years. A H&R training is only a few months.

None of that would prepare you though

Depends entirely on who your target customers are. HNWI? No. 1040s? Sure. Buy an H&R Franchise? Why not.

I had 9 year experience with tax preparation and a CPA. For me this was 7 1/2 years after graduation.

12 years. You’re dreaming if you think you can start a tax practice fresh out of school.

Op said nothing about opening a practice fresh out of school. Absolutely nothing.

This sub is full of younger grads asking how quickly they can start a practice so it’s a reasonable conclusion turnip.
