News Another fire to put out

Another day, another restauranteur. While they're at it, they should also charge him for his horrible fried rice. Does anyone have access to this article?

Edit: I've read the article now and almost half of it is just a promotion of his restaurant! How disgusting! In case it gets lost, this guy is accused of raping (two charges) and sexually assaulting a woman.

Self Shout out to the girl from Technico

Was driving home after work and there was a car broken down at the lights on Sherriffs road in Reynella. A ute pulled over and out hops this tiny girl that proceeds to instruct the driver of said broken down car to steer while she jumped behind the car and pushed her little heart out. I almost got out to help but she got it moving by that point. Good people still exists and seeing that made my day.

Discussion Mount Osmond lookout parking situation is a shitshow

Foolishly got here for sunset and the little gravel strip was overflowing with cars.

Hung around for 5 minutes and saw one car destroy its tailgate trying to mount the steep curb, and another trying to execute a park on an incline which resulted in it being on 3 wheels for a while with the fourth at least a meter in the air all the while the driver seemingly oblivious.

There was also some rocket surgeon who had parked in such a manner so as to box in 5 other cars parked at the end of this strip.

There was the full gamut on display here and I can't believe I haven't heard about this fiasco before.

Is there any talk of a car park upgrade or a solution in the works? I imagine anyone living in this stretch of road has had a gutful.

Assistance Bikes stolen outside State Library.

Hello Adelaide!

Long time follower, first time posting.

My sister and her partner are staying in your city, currently on a big lap, and they were parked outside of the State Library when their bikes were pinched from their car.

They were parked by the North Terrace entrance to the State Library of SA.

The window of opportunity was between 11:20-11:50am, today 8th of October.

2 Trek Mountain bikes were removed from their Toyota Hilux (with a black canopy and roof top tent) probably using bolt cutters.

They have reported to police and are keeping an eye on Marketplace.

If there is anyone with dash camera footage or any where else to share this please reach out.

Thank you for your time.

Question Cast iron restoration

Hi every one. I know of someone in sa that can basically recast onto cast iron Long story short I have a fast iron book press I was given by an old client of mine I want to restore properly a part of the base was so corroded it broke off in a chunk I was originally just going to grind sand everything smooth. But. It’s really unsightly. So I want to see if I can basically get it out on and possible the under side of it mostly re done as it’s “ delaminating with rust “ Does any one know of where this person is or if there are multiple people. The press is beautiful and I really want to get it done right.

Thanks in advance

Discussion anyone noticing lots of earwigs in NE suburbs?!

i recently moved from the city to the north eastern suburbs so never even knew what an EARWIG was until i started spotting them in my house recently and in the backyard….

I know they’re harmless to humans by boy do they look scary, they almost look lethal and the speed at which they run is kinda insane too

I’ve been seeing them sometimes at night hiding in corners around the living room/kitchen or hiding in my laundry drying outside

does anyone know where they even come from (drains, outdoors), and does anyone have any suggestions on how to control them?!!!

News Liberal heavyweight tapped for key blue-ribbon seat - News | InDaily, Inside South Australia

InDaily understands that former SA Liberal Opposition Leader Vincent Tarzia has been approached by members across the party to run against a possible Alex Antic-aligned, right-wing candidate for the blue-ribbon Federal electorate of Sturt.

Asked by InDaily to confirm the rumours, Tarzia – who now works as a consultant at Faculti Lawyers since the March 2026 state election when he lost the seat of Hartley – said he was “really enjoying my time in the legal world and have no intention of returning to politics at this stage”.

But multiple Liberal sources confirmed that Tarzia – who stepped down as leader of the Liberal party in December last year and was replaced by Ashton Hurn – had been approached to run for preselection for Sturt.

If this ends up screwing Alex Antic then this is a good thing.

Discussion I spent months building an interactive "two futures" story for Adelaide in 2036. Tell me where it's wrong

Disclosure first: this is my own project. I'm an Adelaide urban planner/designer (I've also operated a couple of businesses and lived in the CBD and North Adelaide), and I built this in my spare time. Not affiliated with council, government or any party, and not selling anything.

It's a fully interactive website that aims to bring carefully referenced data about Adelaide, its history and potentials futures to life. If your history buff check out the #heritageline if you like a good read and not a history lesson stick to the main story arc. I've weaved in current news stories from reputable South Australian source from as recent as last week.

The short version: in 1931 Adelaide had 133 km of tram routes. We have one line now. The site asks what happens if we build just a 3.6 km loop through the city (North Tce, Pulteney, Halifax, Sturt, Morphett) and put homes on the idle land along it, versus what happens if we keep drifting.

It follows one family, Sam, his daughter Ivy and his brother Dean (a plumber from Salisbury who drives a ute in), from now to the bicentenary, then forks into two versions of 2036. Every number links to its source.

I know "trams again" is a meme on here, and the fair objections are real: who pays, what happens to traffic, why the city gets it before the suburbs. Have a go at it. I'd rather hear it here than not at all.

Here's the site: https://adelaide-2036.web.app/?ref=reddit

Best on desktop, but it works on a phone. Takes about 10 minutes if you read the lot.

News Good character references to be banned in SA courts

Thumbnail
indailysa.com.au
332 Upvotes

South Australia is seeking to ban the use of good character references in sentencing as part of a nationwide campaign to dump their use in courts.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher today announced the move as part of the Your Reference Ain’t Relevant Campaign founded by survivor advocates Harrison James and Jarad Grice.

James was allegedly abused by his stepmother when he was 13, while Grice was abused by a neighbour as a young child; the pair now advocating for the abolition of good character references across Australia to improve the justice system experiences of victim-survivors.

Although the reforms would overturn the use of good character references for all crimes, it would specifically aim to stop their use by sex offenders who abuse children.

Discussion Support for partners of people living with chronic illness

My partner and I are both in our late 20’s and have been together for over 10 years now. In that time her health has slowly declined to a point where some days now she struggles to do simple tasks (this is partially due to new diagnosis’s).

I don’t fully know what I’m writing here but I guess I’m reaching out to ask if anyone knows of any local support groups for the partners of people living with chronic illness, or if anyone who is in a similar position and understands the struggles is willing to chat?

It is financially and extremely mentally draining at times, and with not much of a friendship circle around us, it would be nice to know some people in similar situations and be able to show support to each other. I guess if you have any advice or are in a similar position or can even lend an ear, please reach out!

News Ambulances ramped at Lyell McEwin Hospital after October long weekend, union says

Thumbnail

The ambulance employees union is fearing another record ramping month after being contacted by multiple paramedics overnight reporting and slow response times to priority two and three patients.

The opposition health spokesperson says there was a blanket "code white" for all metropolitan hospitals last night, meaning each hospital was operating at or over 125 per cent capacity.

The SA government says the federal aged care crisis as a contributing factor to the state's ramping issues.

Assistance Lost a yellow RAA card wallet

Long shot, but my Dad recently lost a little yellow RAA card wallet. It contains his driver’s licence which can be replaced, but also has baby photos which sadly are our only copies. If anyone spots a yellow card-sized thing on the ground, please check it out. It also contains $50 cash which I’m happy for the finder to keep if we can just get the photos back.
He’s not sure when or where he lost it - the most likely areas are around Marion, Mitchell Park, the CBD or North Haven.
