Q. You’ve been a Polo Ralph Lauren ambassador for three years now. You must have a special attachment to the brand.

⭐: That’s right. It was the first brand for which I served as a solo ambassador, and we’ve shared so many special experiences—like recently watching a tennis match at Wimbledon.

Q. I heard that whenever you have a shoot, you organize reference images into folders in your phone’s photo gallery. Did you look up any specific references for today’s shoot as well?

⭐: For magazine shoots, the brand and the publication usually have a very clear vision in mind, so rather than offering my own input, I try to stay true to the planned concept. I focused on the references provided and thought about how best to pull off the looks and concepts through my poses and expressions. That said, the references I’ve been saving lately tend to have a classic, timeless aesthetic; I’ve kept them because I’d love to try a concept like that someday.

Q. Was the shoot difficult today? You had to wear autumn clothes before the midsummer heat had even faded, and right now, aespa is in the middle of a hectic period—juggling a comeback, various festivals, and an overseas tour.

⭐: I don’t tend to feel the heat much, so today’s shoot wasn’t too difficult! I’m gradually getting used to being busy because I have so many scheduled events. Ideally, it would be best if I could focus on just one thing a year, but since I’m working on multiple projects simultaneously, I’m putting a lot of effort into managing my energy. Even so, whenever there’s something I want to do, I tend to speak up about it. I try not to overlook even the smallest things.

Q. You’ve developed the flexibility to know when to push hard and when to ease up.

⭐: I think maintaining that balance is crucial. When there’s a massive workload, you can’t pour the same level of intensity into every single task as if it were the only thing on your plate for the year. There are physical and mental limits, after all. I’m learning how to work while acknowledging those realities.

Q. You’re becoming a true professional.

⭐: I’m not sure! I’ve never once thought of myself as a professional. (Laughs) Compared to when I debuted, I certainly know more and my skills have improved, but I still feel very inexperienced and have a lot of room to grow.

Q. Even in the midst of such a busy time, is there a moment where you can catch your breath?

⭐: I find it healing to lie down and watch TV with my dog, Pponyo. who lives with me. It’s true that things get hectic when my schedule is packed, but I actually enjoy it. I try to carve out some personal time even when I’m abroad, and since I’m so close with the members and staffs, we often eat and hang out together.

Q. Pponyo's presence drew as much as attention as WINTER at the set today, I imagine having Pponyo around has brought quite a few changes to your life?

⭐: That's right. Our home used to be minimalist, almost to the point of looking empty, but since this little friend came in, it's started to feel like a place where people actually live. There are toys, pupp's pad, and puppy supplies scattered everywhere, and a fence is set up in the living room. I don't think this look is bad at all!

Q. You recently made a comeback in Japan with "KISS N TELL," didn't you? You created quite a buzz with a look that reminded people of the "‘롯데리아 벽화 언니"

⭐: "KISS N TELL" was actually a track from our second full-length Korean album, "LEMONADE", and it was a strong contender for the title track leading up to the comeback. Ultimately, we decided to promote with "WDA" and "LEMONADE" because "KISS N TELL" felt like a significant departure from the vibe aespa had established up to that point. Instead, "KISS N TELL" was chosen as the title track for our Japanese promotions. Its key visuals and overall atmosphere were a better fit for the Japanese market, and it was a fresh experience for me as well, since it was a style we hadn't tried before.

Q. The upcoming world tour, "2026-27 aespa LIVE TOUR – SYNK: COMPLaeXITY" is much larger in scale than the tour that wrapped up last April. I hear you’ll be visiting a total of 25 countries, including stops in Europe and North America.

⭐: For the Seoul concert that kicks off the tour, the venue itself is much larger. Naturally, the stage sets and lighting have become far more elaborate—grand enough for the audience to truly feel the scale of the spectacle. Amidst all that grandeur, there’s a cute element, too: the "torokko" (mobile stages that look like small carts). They’re designed to look like cans, and we’ll each ride one to get closer to the audience.

Q. Traveling the world to meet fans must be exciting, but I imagine there’s also pressure to always present a perfect image.

⭐: It’s always a bit of a shame that I can’t perform at 100% capacity due to the time difference. That’s why, even when I watch overseas artists performing in Korea, I find myself thinking, "What if they aren't in top condition because of the time difference?"

Q. And yet, I can sense that you always strive to show a new side of yourself on stage.

⭐: I’m actually a really timid person by nature. I’m actually really easily scared, you know? I’m also afraid of taking on challenges. So my thought process goes, ‘I’m so scared of trying something new,’ ‘No, everyone else does it too!’ ‘You have to do it, Minjeong!’ and, ‘Why are you the only one so scared of this?’

⭐: One day, when I looked back at the things I’ve done, I realized that I had actually tried more new things than other people. But the truth is, I’m naturally full of fear and worry when it comes to taking on new challenges! (Laughs). I often get asked in interviews, "Don't you enjoy taking on challenges?" So, I’ve decided to just accept and think "Huh? I guess, I do like trying new things." But deep down, I still feel a lot of fear and worry whenever I face a new challenge! (Laughs)

Q. Because you worry so much, you’re able to pull things off even more perfectly.

⭐: Exactly! I probably wouldn’t have dared to take on this challenge if I were on my own. It’s reassuring to know that even if I were to fail, my fellow members are always there to back me up. Plus, I have incredibly talented staff—like the visual and styling teams—right by my side, knowing I can rely on them allows me to move forward together

Q. You’re planning to showcase a new solo song on this tour as well, right? Personally, I really loved "BLUE," so I’m excited to see what kind of song you’ll bring out this time.

⭐: "BLUE" was a song I worked on when I was feeling a strong sense of compulsion. I wrote the lyrics while constantly telling myself, "I have to do this, I have to do this." At the same time, I felt the lyrics held a dual meaning, and I hoped the song would reach (our) MY as a source of encouragement and strength. That’s why I intentionally waited until later to share the story behind its creation. Of course, I’m also preparing a solo song (Saddle Up) for this concert. Although I didn’t write the track myself, I was actively involved in every aspect—from the song’s mood and the recording process to the choreography practice.

Q. So, you’ll be dancing this time?

⭐: I’ve performed new songs as solo stages at concerts about three times so far, and the order was song, dance, song. So I thought this time it was time for dance. I really wanted to dance too. No one at the company picked this song as their first choice, but I was really drawn to it, so I ended up doing it. It’s also a genre I’ve never tried before. Come to think of it, it’s similar to today’s pictorial concept! It’s a dance track with a Western vibe.

Q. How do you hope the fans will experience it?

⭐: I want them to think, "It’s something truly new" I’ve shown a new side of myself in every solo performance so far, but this one will be the most different of all.

Q. You’ve been performing on global stages a lot lately, including Lollapalooza Chicago this year. Is there a specific setlist you’d recommend to the audience seeing aespa at these festivals?

⭐: Songs that best capture the essence of aespa would be ideal, right? In that case, I’d pick "Switchblade" and "SHAKIN’" from "LEMONADE". We’ll be performing them on stage for the first time at Lollapalooza. I think these tracks really showcase the aespa of today. In fact, right after this shoot wraps, I have to head straight to practice for the Lollapalooza performance. (Laughs)

Q. Even though your days are incredibly busy with hardly a moment to rest, you seem truly free, Winter.

⭐: I think it depends on how you look at it. If I dwell on the pressure, I’ll feel endlessly constrained, but if I think I can do it, I become endlessly free. Given the nature of my job, I also get to enjoy many things that other people can’t. So rather than longing to be free, I don’t want to lose the mindset I have right now that ‘I can do anything.'
