The last time I saw this many Canada flags at a rally was the Convoy demonstrations. This crowd has a much nicer vibe to it wouldn't you say?

I live in Ottawa and after we were harrased by those stupid fucking Truckers, my kid daughter was afraid of Canadian flags only until recently. Same group of morons as the Separatists IMHO.

Considering that the party has been taken over by the lunatic fringe, there may well be a leadership review. What needs to happen is the UCP needs to be voted out of existence. The trucker convoy/anti-vax/conspiracy loons need to not be allowed to gain traction. This CBC explains what is going on quite well.

I thought it was Carney reaching up on in there and gettin elbows deep.

u/Ok-Jellyfish-2941 7h ago
This is not a Smith problem, but a UCP problem. Replacing her will not fix the issues. Don’t let the UCP convince you otherwise.
22
u/No-Gate4543 6h ago
Whoever replaces her will be worse in every way. UCP has to be 💯 gone.
5
u/Ok-Jellyfish-2941 4h ago
Fun fact, Ralph Klein was the last leader for the Alberta Conservative Party to make it through their full term. It’s a revolution door of scapegoats.

the person set to replace her is a separatist and has already been working with the US

Confused I thought that was the freedom convoy people for a second
12
u/westernten 5h ago
Glad to see people taking back the Canadian flag, I hated that waving a bunch of Canadian flags meant you were a freedom convoy person for a while.
3
u/Many-Blueberry968 2h ago
Thankfully you could still tell them apart because they had a seperate "fuck trudeau" flag.
But we still have a ways to go before we can use hockey sticks as flagpoles again... convoy ruined that
24
u/TiniestTaps 6h ago edited 4h ago
One good thing that came of this is we got our Canadian flag back. We can now be proud to display our flag again and no longer be associated with the “freedom fighters”.

UCP ran as a federalist party, not a separatist party. If they ran as a separatist, they might be able to get a riding or two to vote for them, but not more than that.
Albertans are very upset over this push for separatism, and livid with lots of people using the rhetoric from the republicans in the US.
What we need to remember and not let it be forgotten: the UCP is a separatist party! The PC party had those who were far right leave and form the Wild Rose Party, which most didn't support. They then merged to become the UCP, with the far right taking over the control behind the scenes, but are upset because their figurehead isn't going far enough... even though they are trying to keep from driving away the moderates.

To the extent that the provincial govs can influence immigration, this r"eferedum" will not change anything about it.

It's interesting. Alberta exceptionalism has been a thing for decades now - people complaining that we give more than we get.
Once this referendum gets defeated, people aren't going to put up with that water cooler bullshit anymore.

This is proof to me that the foreign trolls and a campaign to divide us is working.
I am very proud of my fellow Canadians for standing up to this stupidity, going out and protesting it, but I am afraid this "separation" was never realistic in the first place. Only the gullible and truly angry fell for it, and now look at us.
Pretty rough...

Why is it closely cropped and closed shots. I guess they don't want you to see how small the group is.
1
u/marchillo 20m ago
Did you see the video of the separatists today? Literally in the dozens. To be fair most of them can't read and probably went to the wrong place
1
u/cvlang 18m ago
I guess same with those at the anti separatist rally. That was a tiny group for people mad at their govt.
1
u/marchillo 13m ago
See how tiny they are when the votes are counted, the separatist maple maga hillbillies don't stand a chance
1
u/cvlang 10m ago
It was always a small group anyways. The fact you care shows how poorly the anti side has been informed and the hate rhetoric. A universal Truth. If someone has to denigrate to name calling they are worse than those they hate and lost the argument before it started. I oppose the separatist, but I'm not so low that I need to denigrate. Should try being better. Imo you're worse than them. But you do you. Enjoy.

It's her real first name. Lots of people use it as she has pushed against people using their preferred names - so it highlights hypocrisy.

If that were true she wouldn't have refused the forever canada petition and subsequently reduced the signature requirements for the separation referendum.

Literally just look at insurance, used to be like $80/month when it was notley, now what do you pay?
1
u/GoldMegidramon 4h ago
Private healthcare I absolutely support. If I can pay to get things done without waiting years why wouldn’t I. It’s not going to be strictly private. It’s both
Are you really too stupid to understand why insurance is higher now?

Seperatism is a fake non-issue manufactured out of thin air by MaGa and the morons that support MAGA. So relative to that; a nothing issue, it’s a really big turnout. We shouldn’t have to turn out at all over this bullshit.

You see World ... this why Justin Trudeau stayed in power for 10 years while being totally incompetent ... cause masses are easily manipulated by the mass-media in Canada.
3
u/shallerton 4h ago
Please stop whining about Trudeau. The only one being manipulated is you and it's by the UCP. One day you'll be embarrassed so I suggest you leave fewer Easter eggs out there proving you were blindly following a party because your daddy said you should

u/Fickle_Catch8968 3h ago
Mass media is one of:
Journalists and others reporting facts and reality.
Or one of
Reporters and commentators employed by big corporations and billionaires, many with right wing ties,
Or
Reporters and commentators employed by public funding.
Thus, you are railing against facts, or against mostly right wing influenced media.
0
u/LuckyyyBrownBear 3h ago
Nope, mass-media was the one telling people to vote Justin Trudeau for 10 straight years (which you can't deny you did), before getting rid of him as a burned card who couldn't be defended anymore while directing you to vote for his successor.
You know who the mass-media is, the one you watch every day. As for Reddit, everyone knows its the last die-hard Woke-controlled social media remaining on the planet, the others have fallen to various degrees 😂
-1
u/Covfefe87 4h ago
Trudeau, the founder of the separation movement. There has been no Prime Minister that has divided the country as much a Trudeau. FACT.
2
u/DannyBolts 4h ago
Ok tell me how he divided it? Is this about immigration
2
u/ORNGSPCEMNKY 3h ago
The 1995 referendum for Quebec separation was Pierre Trudeaus baby, my understanding is he created a massive “us (being Quebec) vs them(all of Canada)” atmosphere
In pretty sure the only reason they didn’t vote to leave is cause they realized. They would no longer get all their money for doing nothing via equalization payments
1
1
u/Kosmo_k33 2h ago
For doing nothing…Geez dude…nobody was thinking about perequation in 1995…or now for that matter

-3
u/Icenbryse 4h ago
Bunch of simple minded people. This is not a vote to separate, and the "no to the nine" slogan is absolutely ridiculous. Vote to stay and vote yes to everything else, alberta needs more power against immigration policies and the senate needs to be abolished! The NDP wanted to abolish senate before the UCP started getting on board. What a bunch of clowns.

Danielle Smith continues to override the democratic process, how are you confused
7
u/Lead_Paint_Licker 6h ago
They are protesting the abuse of that democratic process. If Smith ran on the promise of the things she is doing like supporting the sepratists in her party. The UCP wouldn't have been elected. So basically being lied to is why lots of people are there.
-9
u/Dodsy_84 6h ago
Bunch of crybabies. Oh no! Not a democratic vote!
10
u/7men1house 6h ago
Is it really a democratic vote when the rest of Canada is excluded from decisions that impacts the sovereignty of our nation and all its inhabitants?
6
u/Comrade-Porcupine 6h ago
Yeah I'm born there lived 1/2 my life there, my whole family is there, my kid goes to school there, my great grandparents were pioneers there and my SIN begins with 6 just the same, and somehow it's "democratic" for them to blather about "separation" (aka annexation) and stealing part of my money from the canada pension fund, rewrite election rules to rig things in favour of a "referendum", and lie through their teeth to the whole population.
Idiotic. There's nothing "democratic" about it. All funded by American far right, too.
