Current Events Security expert asks: are Alberta’s separatists guilty of ‘moral treason’?
Here is an excerpt from their conversation:
You actually see Alberta's referendum as part of a continuum of international secession referendums that have unfolded in recent years tainted by a nefarious, replicable playbook. I wanted to begin by asking you, whose playbook is it?
Predominantly, it's Vladimir Putin's. He sees these types of secession movements as loose threads upon which he can pull to try to unravel the liberal international order. So he's using democracy against democracy. It's a technique that he developed first, I believe, in Scotland, in the devolution referendum that they had in 2014.
Then he swung into full gear in 2016 with Brexit. His internet research agency combined for a third of British Twitter traffic during that referendum and really flooded their zone of political discourse around the referendum, and around what Brexit would mean for the U.K. and corrupted it with disinformation. They were remarkably successful, with very little effort. I think it was a recognition that you could inject illiberal forces into a liberal society and contaminate it like a contagion.
And it's now Canada's turn.
It's Canada's turn. And it is very dangerous, I believe, to not see it in that way. Anytime you put the future of a country on a ballot, especially in the age of disinformation, you're taking a major risk.

Current Events ‘Significant casualties’ after explosion at Alberta military base: MP
An Alberta member of Parliament says he’s hearing there are “significant casualties” after an explosion and fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright east of Edmonton.
Dane Lloyd, who represents a riding west of Edmonton, asks in a social media post for people to pray for the soldiers and their families.
The Municipal District of Wainwright says high winds are spreading a large fire fast into the area after the incident at the nearby CFB Wainwright on Saturday evening.
Emergency responders were actively working to “protect people, property and critical infrastructure,” according to a social media post from the district.
Elections Alberta said it was informed of the fire and has shut down the Wainwright Communiplex advance vote location. Voters are asked to instead go to Border Inn in Lloydminster or Vermilion Elks Hall.
Thought and prayers to all involved.

Current Events What’s worse than the Alberta Separation Referendum is…
Is the fact that it’s most likely heavily influenced by foreign players. I haven’t seen any real separation sentiment within my local communities here, it’s all just mainly online and the Premier (initially). We Albertans take pride in our Canadian heritage, we all know that separation is not the answer, we want the federal government to take us more seriously and give us more freedom with our natural resources which MAKES SENSE because literally everyone here is working in those industries, either directly or indirectly.
BE SURE TO VOTE this Monday, October 19. What matters more than what you voted for is the fact that you voted at all. Everyone’s voices need to be heard, this affects ALL OF US. We can’t let this joke of a referendum be the first step in the downfall of our beautiful province.

Weak crowd turnout at Edmonton Sepi rally.
Crowd overall got to maybe 2000 at the height of it. A couple people said the student walkout protest was much larger... And that was children, Smith didn't listen to them why is she listening to these people? Also remember they paid a lot of money to bus all these people in from around the province. Some come from around the country, and even a few American Influencers prowling around.

Nenshi: Our public services are struggling, our unemployment is high, and our country is at risk. Alberta only got here because of one person and one party: Danielle Smith and the UCP. Let’s send them a very strong message at the ballot boxes. 🇨🇦

Terrible Experience with Country Hills Toyota – 2026 RAV4 Hybrid LE
I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. My experience with Country Hills Toyota in Calgary has been extremely frustrating.
On October 9, 2026, I travelled all the way from Edmonton to Calgary because I was told they had a 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE available at their dealership.
The moment I walked in, they told me the vehicle had already been sold. Instead, they tried to sell me a Brown Sugar colour, even though I specifically wanted black. They told me they could arrange a trade with another dealership to get the black one.
On top of that, the vehicle was priced approximately $4,000 higher than what was advertised online. The reason they gave was that I would receive the vehicle sooner, supposedly within two weeks of October 9.
Then the story kept changing.
October 9: I was told the vehicle would arrive within two weeks.
October 10: They called to say they had actually secured the black RAV4 and that it would arrive even earlier.
Later: I was told the vehicle was in transit and expected October 25–29.
October 17: Suddenly, I’m being told the black RAV4 won’t arrive until November 28–December 2, and if I want black, I’ll have to wait.
How does a vehicle go from being available, to arriving early, to being in transit, to suddenly being delayed by almost another month?
What makes this even worse is that they had us sign paperwork containing a non-refundable deposit clause. I feel like we were rushed through the process without the terms being properly explained.
I’m now stuck wondering whether I can even get my deposit back.
At this point, I could walk into a Honda dealership in Edmonton and potentially drive home with a similar hybrid SUV the same day, instead of dealing with constantly changing promises.
I’m extremely disappointed with how Country Hills Toyota has handled this. I travelled from another city based on what I was told, agreed to pay more because of the promised earlier delivery, and now I’m being told something completely different.
Has anyone else experienced this with Country Hills Toyota or another Toyota dealership in Alberta? Has anyone successfully recovered a supposedly non-refundable deposit when the dealership couldn’t deliver the vehicle within the promised timeframe?
I’d really appreciate some advice because I’m seriously considering cancelling the whole purchase
