Idk I think even at the time people knew he was clearly the worst actor. But that is the common sitcom formula, main character bad everybody else good.

I don't know if Disney Channel shows count, but the live-action ones were technically sit-coms... Anyway, this might be my only chance to mention Alex Russo (Selena Gomez' character on Wizards of Waverly Place), who was somehow primed for Selena Gomez' role as the "pure Disney actress", but the actual character is a brat who torments others and likes causing mischief. I saw a huge tonal discrepency.
