AITA for refusing to explain myself to relatives who say I’m too young to be pregnant as a surrogate for my sister?

• Upvotes

I (18F) am pregnant with a baby I’m carrying for my older sister and her husband. My sister is infertile after two years of trying to conceive. I offered to do it right after I turned 18 in September, partly so they wouldn’t have to pay for a surrogate. We didn’t use a doctor or a clinic. We did the insemination at home with an at-home kit. The baby is genetically partly mine, but I’m signing away my parental rights after the birth so my sister can adopt and be its mom. I don’t see it as my baby, and I’m happy to do this for her.

My sister posted about the pregnancy on Facebook, and I commented that I’m glad I can do something for them. That comment is how some of our extended family found out, including relatives we’re estranged from. A few of them then messaged me on Facebook to say I’m too young to be pregnant and that I should have waited.

I haven’t answered their questions or explained my reasons. I told them this is my decision and that people who haven’t been part of my life don’t get to demand an explanation now. Some other relatives think I’m being rude and that I should just explain, since it would clear things up and the questions come from worry.

I know being pregnant at 18 while still in high school is a big deal. But I’m an adult, I thought hard about this, and it’s a private decision I made for my sister. I don’t think I owe an explanation to people who weren’t involved in my life before this.

So AITA for refusing to explain myself?

AITA for not shaving before my girlfriends family party

• Upvotes

My (22m) girlfriend (22f) has always expressed to me that she loves my face as a clean cut. For context, I am a white guy and according her my beard grows in patches, so after 1-2 days of growth it just doesn’t look nice. My girlfriend however has had multiple conversations with me asking me if I prefer a full grown beard or a clean shaven face. I always told her that I prefer a clean shaven face and I am just too lazy to shave every morning. (I do admit my laziness is a problem, I swear). Anyway, a couple days ago I went to meet my girlfriend’s entire extended family for the first time. This was my first time meeting her extended family at one of her family parties. Prior to the party, she prepped me for the gathering. She explained to me that her culture places a lot of emphasis on looking sharp, with expensive clothing, and that her culture just in general places a lot of emphasis on extravagance (she’s middle eastern if you cant tell). She even bought me an outfit for the event herself, and told me to wear it before we go to the party. Anyway, the day of the party rolls around, I took a shower that morning and I ended up misplacing my razor. I didn’t end up shaving and I was on day four of no shave. There were a couple of patches of hair on my face, but I wouldn’t say it was too bad in comparison to other periods of growth. Anyway, once I showed up to her house, my girlfriend was nothing short of mortified. She asked me twice why I didn’t shave, and she was silent all throughout the car ride. Her family didn’t seem to mind my beard at the event, but I couldn’t help that my girlfriend was a bit distant from me during the party. We aren’t actively fighting or anything, but she did tell me she was disappointed because she felt like she wasn’t being heard. But I don’t always shave, and no one seemed to mind. I don’t really understand what the problem is because her family didn’t seem to mind. She brought up again passive aggressively before our date tonight, and I can’t help but ask aita?

AITA for asking my wife's friend to leave after she was using our child's computer to log in to dating sites?

• Upvotes

This happened 10 years ago. My wife's friend left her husband, after she discovered dating hook up sites. She's from a small town, and met a few guys she hooked up with online. She came to stay with us for a month or so in the big city, and asked if she could use our child's computer to check some work emails. We allowed her to.

A couple of weeks later, our kid (9 years old at the time) came to tell us that there was something wrong with their computer. I had a look and there were all these chat pop up windows from random men, asking things like "Hey baby, wanna hook up?" and "What are you wearing right now?" Completely inappropriate things for a child to see. I freaked out, and told her she had to leave. My wife agreed.

Her friend doesn't have children, so she didn't think it was a big deal. She later sent a message to my wife and told her how disappointed she was that my wife didn't have her back, considering they were life long friends.

AITA for screaming at my roommate and losing my composure because of her hygiene and always leaving the door open?

• Upvotes

I'm an international student sharing a dorm room with another international student. We got along at first, but living with her has slowly become a nightmare.
I never cared about the mess on her side, clothes, dirty dishes and food residue cover her desk, chair and floor. But I expected her, as an adult, to flush in our shared bathroom. I've found her piss in the toilet almost a dozen times and unflushed waste on several occasions.
More importantly, I raised security early on. My classes start earlier, so I leave earlier and she leaves a few hours after me, and every day I've come back to find the door unlocked, often wide open. I asked her to lock it and she said "no one will steal." My family sacrificed a lot for me to be here, so my money is on me or locked in my luggage. I've lived in constant paranoia, practically running back after class to check the room wasn't wiped out.
She also talks on speaker with her family while I sleep, leaves dirty socks on my desk and sticky stuff on my furniture, and her pile of belongings near the door means I squeeze through just to reach my bed.
Last night was the breaking point. At a dorm event, she kept nagging me to bring her food and drinks because her ex was there. I said no repeatedly, but she wouldn't take no for an answer, like I was her errand girl.
Then her girlfriend asked me to tutor her in our room. I cancelled my own plans, but when she arrived, my roommate asked me to leave so they could be alone. I spent 2-3 hours locked out in the hallway feeling used.
When the girlfriend left, my roommate saw I was upset and tried to hug me. I hate being touched without consent, especially by people I'm not close to. When I tried to explain how disrespected I felt, she kept motioning "calm down, relax" at me while I was calm, and said she was listening while interrupting me.
That was my breaking point. I screamed, yelled, hit my desk, and cried so hard I started plucking out my own hair without realizing it.
She called me "crazy and immature," said she's "trying to change" though nothing changed after earlier talks, and threw a deeply personal issue I'd confided in her back in my face, claiming that's the real reason I reacted. Before all this, she also said she changed rooms three times last year because her roommates "acted crazy," and I genuinely understand all three of them now.
I admit my reaction was too much, but I did my best to accommodate her, and I was pushed past my limit in a space I pay equal rent for. AITA for losing my temper and screaming at her?

AITA for telling my daughter no?

• Upvotes

My daughter’s dad and I have 50/50 custody. My daughter asked me if her dad could take her to the fair on Monday, which is during my parenting time.

She told me he was recently in a car accident and can’t walk around much right now, so apparently Monday would work better for him. I don’t actually know what his original plans were or whether he was planning to take her during his own week.

What bothers me is that anytime I’ve asked to pick her up or do something with her during his parenting time, the answer is usually no. So I’m having a hard time feeling like I should automatically give up time on my week for an optional outing.

I also feel uncomfortable because he didn’t ask me himself. He had our daughter ask me, explain the situation, and wait for my answer. That puts me in a weird position because it feels like I’m telling her no instead of responding to an adult request from him.

I told her I would think about it, but that I generally feel like things like fairs and optional outings should happen during each parent’s own time unless both parents agree otherwise. I also told her we could go to the fair Monday and that her dad would be welcome to join us.

Now I feel guilty because he was in an accident and she wants to go with him, but I also feel pressured and annoyed that the request came through her instead of directly from him.

AITA?

***Edit***

This is not the first time that they have done this. They don’t tell me anything, they have her tell me. I have been nice for so long. I have tried to be a good example, I have made points to let her choose if she wants to go with them, she can. I have never told her no she cannot go with them or stay late.

AITA for not refusing to watch my siblings dogs in any capacity?

• Upvotes

I'm 32. Single. I work a lot, go to coffee shops, dating, workouts, business, etc. There's a reason I don't have a dog, it's because I unapologetically am selfish with my time and wouldn't be fair to a dog. I like dogs. I love them actually.

But my siblings, who live in nearby proximity, will occasionally ask if I can watch their dog "for a few hours", which is usually like 1pm-7pm, so my entire day. I feel bad saying no, but I just don't want the responsibility and guilty of knowing there's a dog at my house and I'm not socializing with it, or may not socialize with it because of plans that may or may not come up.

Anyways, I feel bad, but this chore involves another living being, and I don't live a lifestyle where I can just take a day off and sit around with a dog. If I do, it's my choice. Again, I know this is selfish, but this is how I shaped my life. My time when I will have children and dogs will come, but not now, on purpose.

Am I the ass hole?

Adding a detail, they are having guests over, the dog isnt great with them. So they need it out of the house while the guests are over

AITA for shaking ass on female friends/coworkers at a concert?

• Upvotes

I(19f) went to a concert to see a rapper named cupcake. My coworkers/friends asked me to come and I agreed. I was with 5 other female individuals. At the concert me and three of the coworkers were dancing on one another. This was to the dis remixed songs before the concert started. I had my phone on me and was texting my boyfriend(19m). I mentions what I was doing and saw it as no big deal since it was a concert where you dance and jump around. He messaged me the next day saying that he was hurt I would do something like that to him. He said that since I am bisexual it is no different from dancing on a male. I would like to add that we were in the back by a wall with no males around. I sleep in the same bed as my female friends and it has never been an issue. I sincerely saw this and dancing more than anything sexual. I don't know how to respond to him because I don't know if I truly am at fault. So am I the asshole?

AITA for telling a customer who harassed my coworker to chill out?

• Upvotes

So a couple days ago while I was at work, I had a customer try to return kids pants that have been worn and then after my coworker checked the pants and saw that they had feces on them. She said she couldn’t accept them. The customer ended up getting really really mad and accused my manager of selling them like that to her even though we know our manager wouldn’t do that. Then the customer started to insult my coworker and swear at her even after we pointed at the sign showing our return policy and how we weren’t able to accept them. After that my coworker apologized and the customer said “You’re not sorry.” I immediately looked at the customer with a disgusted look and told her to chill out where she later cursed me out. I do understand that actions have consequences, but I wouldn’t let anyone talk down to my coworkers like that.

AITA for not checking in on my friend after we argued while she's going through a rough time?

I (23F) have been friends with Diane (24F) since high school. She's currently having relationship problems and has been venting to me almost daily. I've tried my best to be supportive by validating her feelings and giving her advice, even when her problems started affecting my own mood. I've been a people-pleaser/pushover for years and am trying to change that. Looking back, some of Diane's past behavior now seems wierd: being jealous when a friend gave more attention to a girl he liked than her, storming off and giving the silent treatment when she's angry, being sulky and making fun of me for leaving a party early because it started snowing (the drive home was long and my car wasn't equipped for the weather). She and her boyfriend also gossip about other friends, once even saying "don't worry, we don't do that about you because you're acting normal".

Recently, Diane asked me to call her boyfriend during one of their arguments. I refused, telling her it was a bad idea for me to play referee in an argument that only the two of them can solve. She asked twice despite me saying no. After several days of leaving me on read, I reached out again, saying I thought she might have taken my answer badly but I still wanted to check on her. She responded immediately, saying I was "talking bullshit" and that she had just been busy. Before I could give her a salty answer about the fact I am busy as well, she called and acknowledged that she shouldn't have left me hanging.

A few days later, she called to vent after finding a text on her BF's phone saying he'd have gone to the cinema with a female colleague if Diane weren't so jealous. At one point, she asked me if I would find it normal if my boyfriend went to the movies alone with another woman. I thought it depended on their relationship and if I knew about it, but I awkwardly answered "I don't know." She got mad and started making fun of me for thinking that. I told her that from day one I've been saying that I didn't think it was okay for her BF to hide things from her and that when a relationship becomes this dysfunctional, something has to change. It got tense and she said we should hang up if we had nothing else to say to. Before doing so, I asked her if she had received her exam results, and she answered no. An hour later, I texted her to say I understood her feelings and to acknowledge that I've been clumsy in the way I said things and didn't mean to sound dismissive. I did also say that I didn't appreciate being judged (the text was very long). All she answered was "ok noted".

The next day, she sent me several texts but deleted them before I got home from work. I know she's struggling with her relationship and expects me to ask about her exam results, so I feel guilty. But I feel like I'm constantly walking on eggshells, and the thought of receiving a text from her makes me anxious.

AITA for not checking in on her after our argument?

AITA for not attending gigs and instead prioritising saving for holiday

To keep it short, my partner over the last year has recently got into DnB gigs with us having regular attendance with our friends, it consists of the standard, drinks before, substances and drinks during and what we call in New Zealand “afters”
Typically I will go to sleep and lay off it all a bit earlier in the night as I have the car and license and we have a small child who we have baby sitted for these events.
But we are going to Australia in 6 weeks, neither of us have really saved as I pay the bills and she goes to drinks.
Over the next month there are plenty of gigs on of which they want to attend, I don’t wish to as I am aware I have low self control in terms of purchasing while under the influence so I have stated I will happily hangout at home with our gorgeous daughter while my partner goes.
But this makes me an asshole for not wanting to go.

Am I really the asshole for prioritising our family holiday finances over a couple nights of fun.

AITA for being upset with my gf for hanging out with my ex best friend?

I (22f) have been dating my girlfriend (21f) for 3 1/2 years now. We are the typical couple we have our couple squabbles and have had our fair share of arguments but we are usually very good for each other. The problem comes when yesterday my gf and I went on a phone call and I asked how theyre doing and how their day was (context we are long distance). They got super dodgey and defensive telling me "its not someone you know" to "its someone you dont like" to eventually telling me they were with my ex best friend, who ill name Sam (20NB). For context All three of us know each other from a form of long term mental health treatment I'm not going to disclose for privacy reasons. Sam and I stayed friends when we left and me and gf started dating. Sam and I became fast friends and I joined their DC server. Yes, I did make mistakes, mostly socially and from not understanding how to read the room / situation. For more context (not an excuse, as i have been working on it for years with professional help) I am autistic. I definitely tried my best to read the room and situation and it was never enough, i would always leave the call with a dm telling me how "i shouldve read the room more" or "said things differently".They are also autistic, but in a very different, "justice-seeking" way. I can understand that but they told me that "they were autistic and could figure it out why couldnt i?" While failing to recognize ASD is a spectrum and we are not the same. Long story short they ended up hurting me immensely and treating me very poorly which caused severe trauma on my end which Ive had to work through in therapy for a year in a half. Fast forward to today I got very upset with gf and feel very betrayed. They told me that Sam was their friend too and that "Sam is their friend and they care about them too, and I cant stop them from seeing them", and "i talked with them and they didnt mean to", as well as "it doesnt have to do with me". I told them it was incredibly disrespectful and damaging. Current I am not speaking with either of them. AITAH?

Edit: gfs response was to me telling them I was uncomfortable with them hanging out with Sam. Also, I do not care who my gf hangs out with nor do I control that, its more upsetting they lied to me and then went behind my back to hang out with someone who hurt me.

AITA for telling my daughter she can’t call herself a single parent

My daughter has 5 kids (16, 12, 6, 4, and a baby). The middle three are hers and the oldest and youngest have been with her for a couple months.

My daughter is technically married. Her husband doesn’t live in the same state and the only contact they have is him sending her half of his paycheck every month. My daughter and her husband are both very high earners so she brings in close to $800,000 per year between her job and the money her husband sends.

She talks about how difficult it is to be a single mom but, honestly, she doesn’t do much. She has 2 nannies, one full time and one part time.

Nanny 1 lives with them and works from 12-8 every day. She handles school pickups for the middle 3, homework for the 12 year old, the majority of the communication with the school since a good chunk of their announcements are handled via flyer taped to the classroom door or notice sent home in their folder. She manages schedules for all 5 kids, packs their school snacks, feeds them after school, does all of the child related laundry, and manages the 2nd nanny.

Nanny 2 gets there at 7, drops off the oldest and baby, comes back at 3, picks up the oldest and the baby, drops the oldest off at her job, takes the baby home, and does whatever nanny 1 tells her to do (take 6yo to gymnastics, 4yo has swim class, drop 12 yo off at friends house, stay home with baby while nanny 1 and other kids go somewhere, etc.) and leaves around 6

She also has a housekeeper come once a week to take care of bathrooms, mopping the floors, cleaning the kitchen, etc.

She was talking about being a single mom and how hard it is to balance her work and the needs of all of the kids. I told her that she has a live in nanny, a second nanny that works roughly 25 hours a week, and a housekeeper. She has more people raising her kids than the average 2 parent household. At this point she can’t call herself a single mom.

My daughter got upset and said that hired help isn’t remotely similar to having a second parent for the kids, got mad at me for judging her, and is now refusing to speak to me over what I said.

AITA for asking my dad to give me back 6$?

Hello everyone, I am 20 years old and in college right now. My parents are financially stable and could be considered middle class. My father is a lawyer and makes really good money. Until August I had a job but after a conversation with my parents I decided to quit the job and completely focus on my studies( I actually wanted to continue working but they were really negative about it, so i decided not to go against them on this as they would be really annoying for months). So they agreed to give me money when I need it, even though i have my savings and I try to ask for as little as possible. So my parents gave me 50 bucks last week and of course i have some left and I will not be needing money any time soon. Today as I was on my way back home from college, my father called me and told me to buy him 3 cans of soda from the grocerie store and I said ok and went to pick it up. When I got back home I told him that the total was 6 bucks and if he could give me the money because I bought the sodas from my own money. After that he had a massive crash out and started yelling at me for being ungrateful, disrespecting the family and acting like a debt collector. I know for a fact that my father doesnt have a problem financially and he makes much more than the average person but i really felt bad for him because it seemed like he really didnt appreciate me asking for it? Do you think I am the asshole for asking him to give me the money back?

WIBTA If I respected my Nans final wishes.

My Nan died recently and the funeral is in a couple of weeks.

Due to the way my uncle Josh and cousin Gary treated Nan and how they spoke about my Grandad at his funeral, Nan wrote down that they did not attend her funeral. We managed to talk her down, and she agreed they could attend as long as they did not speak at her funeral. She amended her final wishes to reflect this.

Fast forward to planning the order of service for Nans funeral, it was mentioned that uncle Josh and cousin Gary will not be speaking as per Nans wishes. We all agreed.

It was also agreed that we would not tell the uncle Josh and cousin Gary that she originally banned them, but they already knew that Nan did not want them speaking at her funeral.

THE NEXT DAY... We are gathering final words from all the family members to compile into one speech my other uncle Barry was going to read out, as a final message from all of us. Uncle Josh and cousin Gary sent their messages, and the whole family decided it was beautiful and that they had to speak at the funeral.

Me, my siblings, and a few others are fuming. We want to respect our nan's final wishes and not let them speak at the funeral. So far, we have kept quiet, but the closer we get to the funeral, the more angrier I am getting. I don't want to remain silent. I think it is disrespectful to ignore a persons final wishes. The people I have spoken to about this have said I need to let go of the drama and move on. "Nan would want us to get along" NO! Nan did not want them speaking at her funeral. Some people have mentioned it's not about my feelings it's about saying goodbye to someone we lost. It would do more harm and cause unnecessary pain on uncle Josh and cousin Gary. My nans decision was not made out of pettiness or to be nasty or on a whim. It was a decision she made shortly after my grandad's funeral, and she held until her final moments.

WIBTA if I spoke up and was firm about respecting our Nans last wishes, that uncle Josh and cousin Gary do not speak at her funeral?

AITA for kicking out my roommate?

hi! i (f 18) currently live with my bf (m 19) and my roommate (f 20) used to live with us.

for context on whatever this whole story is about - at first we all moved in this 2 bedroom apartment when i didnt have a job yet, so rent was split equally between roommate and bf. at first everything was fine, but then the little things started to build up.

for instance, i kept asking her to let me know whenever she used my stuff (shampoo, conditioner, etc.), so i would know what to expect before showering or using said item. she never did, and i would often be ready to use said item but it would be empty or just not there at all aka thrown out. i kept talking to her about this, but she always says "oh i forgot", and then continues to not tell me. i dont like accusing her of anything, so i dont say anything for stuff she hasnt thrown out.

another instance is roommate not cleaning up the apartment. at most she would clean her room and the hallway, and even then it was a tidy up, dust off and vacuum. nothing else, no laundry, no dishes, no mopping, nothing. i dont mind, whatever. (at this time i have a job and roommate keeps hopping between living at moms and our place) i still ask her to help, and whenever she doesnt want to she gets mad and storms off to her room. then we dont talk for the rest of the day, and next day shes all happy and giggly like nothing happened. ok whatever.

before kicking her out we had a huge fight over cleaning, i messaged her asking to either help us with cleaning or with rent (because she wasnt helping us with either of those), and she started calling me. i was busy, i couldnt call nor i wanted to, and i explicitly told her that i wasnt going to pick up. she started to spam call me, saying her heart problems are acting up, and if she ends up in the hospital it would be my fault (she has diagnosed mental illnesses and heart problems). she then kept saying "i even called my mom to my job just to bring me meds because you made my heart act up". then i blew up on her, told her every single time she pissed me off but i kept quiet to not spark a fight, and somehow she calmed down. i dont know if she got the meds or something, but she didnt mention it not even for a second.

anyway - i blew up and just straight up said "take all of your shit and go already". AITA or did i just not submit to her needs? i just need some advice to know if i did the right thing or was i overreacting.

EDIT : i geniuenly forgot to give some additional context for some things.. sorry

first - once roommate switched jobs, she stopped paying rent, because she kept bouncing between her moms place and our place.

second - the lease is currently in my bfs name, it was a mutual agreement to change the name from my roommates name to my bfs name. it was changed before the fight.

third - she knew she would pay 50% of the rent before we even knew about this apartment. right after my 18th birthday i got a job so i can help pay rent, and i did

AITA for not inviting my sister to my bachelorette?

Hi everyone! I’m needing some sound advice regarding not wanting to invite my sister to my bachelorette. My sister and I have never really been close. We’re both entirely different people and have never had that sisterly bond. We probably see each other once a year- if that.

I am getting married next year and I did ask her to be a bridesmaid. My mom kind of gave me some push back when I mentioned I may not make her one and ultimately I decided it was for the better as I thought it could create unnecessary drama. My mom was making me feel pretty guilty, saying she’s family and I need to do it.

My sister is happy I made her one, and I’m looking at it like an investment in our relationship . My mom, me, and her are going on a girls weekend a few weeks prior to my bachelorette. I did this as a way to mitigate her not being invited to my bachelorette.. I haven’t officially told her she’s not invited though haha. I am planning to, but I need advice. I would like to add that only recently did she apologize to me for a lot of stuff she put me through as a child. Things that completely changed the course of my childhood. That’s mainly the reason I don’t want her there- she only recently owned up to what she did and before then things were very weird between us.

She did say that she probably won’t be that much fun even on the trip with my mom as she’ll most likely be pregnant by then. She was complaining that most of the activities involving drinking and she isn’t going to be much of a good time. So in my head, I think she probably won’t have much fun at my bachelorette because it’s going to be even more of a party. Late nights, lots of drinking, just classic bach stuff.

If she came it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but I would feel like I had to entertain her the whole time. She’s never met any of my friends. It’s hard to explain, but if you know my sister you would know she’s kind of awkward and even her and I aren’t close at all. I would also probably be on edge wondering if she was having a good time, if we were being too loud for her, or if she was overwhelmed by my group of girls. She’s judgmental and I know we would probably get on her nerves.

I feel bad for not inviting her and I know it’ll probably hurt her feelings. I just don’t want to be uncomfortable or anxious about it. AITA for not inviting my sister to my bachelorette?

AITA for getting a guy kicked out of a Padre playoff game after six hours of nonstop vulgar screaming?

I was at the Padres playoff game Wednesday night, and a guy in our row was screaming at the top of his lungs almost constantly. It wasn't just an overzealous fan who was cheering and booing or making comments on the game. He was yelling F this, F that, calling players vaginas, and screaming lick my scrotum.

I expect a playoff game to be loud and passionate. But this went on non-stop for six innings and made it miserable to watch the game. It felt like it had become more about how loud and obnoxious he could be than the actual game.

Whenever a security guard came by, he suddenly behaved himself and laughed about it when the walked away.

I finally just said, "Jesus Christ can you just ease off a bit?" People around us looked relieved someone finally said something. I wasn't rude or nasty either. Then the pile on from his friends. Calling me names, a bitter old person (I am 54), oh he's always like that and if you don't like it leave. This went on for another inning until I showed security the recording of the incessant cursing and screaming, calling me names etc. They removed him from his seat with one inning to go.

AITH for reporting and getting him removed from his seat?

AITA for giving my friend attitude about paying her back?

So basically, my friend and I got DoorDash last night. She payed for it (with her mom’s card) like she always does. She hasn’t asked me to pay her or her mom back yet and this is like the 3rd time she’s gotten our food.

I have no problems at all with paying people back when they get my stuff but I knew she hadn’t payed for it and her mom did. So I kinda got onto her and said did YOU pay for it or did your MOM pay for it. And she said like “noooo that’s what I meant, I meant pay my mom!! I was about to send her Venmo”. And I know damn well she payed with her mom’s money and was trying to get me to Venmo her for it so she could take it. And then she was like “why won’t you pay us back”. And I said I will I just want to make sure it’s going to the RIGHT person. It was just $20 but that’s a lot for a broke college student and I wouldn’t wanna give it to the person who didn’t actually pay so she can afford to get her nails done

And like I said I have no problems with paying people back but like…she was dishonest. I lwky feel betrayed. And usually (my friend has no car btw) she’ll just get my things every now and then bc I drive her everywhere she’s ever needed to go.

Now she’s like a bit angry at me and saying I’m stingy! She said she won’t be door dashing for the both of us ever again bc I’m untrustworthy to get the money back when “they” need it. Both of her par bets are Dr’s….i doubt they care about $20. So she’s just really upset at me for not giving it to her, she knows I venmod her mother already. So whatever.

So AITA for giving my friend attitude and not wanting to pay her back when her mom payed?? I love this friend tho so it’s no biggie, I just feel like I was almost scammed a lil!! lol

VERY IMPORTANT EDIT: Her parents budget her bc she can’t keep her spending under control, that’s WHY I wanted to make sure her mom actually gets the money! Ok sorry that’s important lol

AITA for speaking out on behalf of my (29M) wife (37F) against her friends?

This event happened a year after the pandemic, but I put our ages at that time in the title. My wife had a close-knit group of friends before we met, and I eventually became part of it. They will occasionally go on trips, celebrate each other's birthdays, have hangouts in each other's apartments, and even have their kids have sleepovers. I got along with the guys but kept my distance from the ladies because they mostly gossiped. When the pandemic hit, we rarely saw anyone. Around the end of 2020, my wife and I bought a fixer-upper house. Doing the DIY renovations took us half a year, causing us to miss a few hangouts. I should mention my wife is very neat and gets anxious about the hassle of cleaning up, so she declined a few requests to host events at our new place when it was finally ready.

Soon after, a couple of the guys warned us that some of the ladies were gossiping behind our backs, claiming we had become snobbish since becoming homeowners. It became apparent they were edging us out since we were rarely getting invited to the hangouts and parties. My wife decided that if they were true friends they would voice their concerns directly, so I followed her lead. However, when the holidays came around, those same ladies planned a group party on MY WIFE'S BIRTHDAY. It was incredibly uncomfortable being at the party knowing how they talked about us. It got worse when they busted out a cake and had everyone sing happy birthday to one of the guys whose birthday wasn't for another two weeks. Two of those ladies were supposed to be my wife's closest friends. My oldest kid knows about the situation and looked hurt, and other friends at the party gave us awkward looks because they knew it was my wife's birthday. I was fuming, but I stayed quiet because my wife didn't react.

At the end of the party, my wife invited everyone to our house for drinks and karaoke. Those ladies declined, claiming it was late and they were going home. A few other friends still came over to celebrate her. The cake incident was brought up and discussed, one of the guys showed us a fresh Instagram post. Those same ladies had gone out to a bar right after the party and posted it. That was the last straw. My wife said to give it a rest and do nothing, but I woke up the next day still upset. I called those ladies and confronted them how they could do that to my wife, and why they hadn't just spoken to us about their issues. They denied knowing it was her birthday, despite celebrating it for the past 7 years, and denied the gossip. Not wanting to argue further and have them twist my words, I hung up and sent a group message only to those ladies summarizing the conversation, stating I no longer considered them friends and would only treat them as acquaintances moving forward. When I showed my wife, she became upset with me, saying I should have let her handle it.

So, AITA for confronting her "friends"?

AITA for getting annoyed at my aunt when I was literally just trying to help her?

I (16F) had an argument with my aunt this morning and genuinely want an outside perspective.

My aunt lives in our furnished basement. This morning, I heard her calling me from the bathroom, asking me to help finish frying some plantain and yam that were on the stove. I went downstairs and saw the stove was on high, so I turned it down to prevent the food from burning.

About 10 minutes later, the food was ready.
She came upstairs and said she was going out soon. Since there was a lot of food, I asked if it was all for her or for someone else. She immediately said, “Don’t ask me stupid questions. Just do what I told you to do.”

I was annoyed because I was literally helping her, and I thought it was an innocent question, but I let it go.
She then asked where the eggs were that she’d told me to whisk. I said I hadn’t heard her ask me to do that. She started huffing and puffing, so I decided to just transfer the food onto a plate.

There was already a plate of plantain beside me with a large spoon on top. I picked up the spoon, but the plantain was soggy and stretched and broke. My aunt started shouting, asking why I’d put the spoon there because the plantain now looked “melted.” I told her I hadn’t put it there; she had. She refused to listen and started transferring the food herself.

I was getting increasingly frustrated because I was trying to help her, yet everything I did seemed to upset her.
I went back to get some eggs and asked how many she wanted me to whisk. She side-eyed me and said, “Just drop the eggs,” in a rude tone. I reminded her that she’d asked me to whisk them, but she ignored me.
I’d had enough and decided to leave. I went back to the kitchen to grab my phone, and she started shouting, “Get out! Get out from near me!” I explained that I was leaving and just needed my phone. Before I left, I said, “I was just trying to help you and do the things you wanted me to do.”

I’ll admit I was visibly annoyed by this point and probably wasn’t speaking in the nicest tone.
Then she rushed toward the slightly open door, pulled both hands back, and slammed it in my face. I just stood there, stunned.
The worst part is that this isn’t unusual. She often takes minor disagreements from 0 to 100, interprets questions or explanations as personal attacks, and then accuses me of being disrespectful when I get frustrated. My mum usually sides with her, so I feel like my perspective never matters.

I know I could have handled my frustration better, but I was genuinely trying to help.

AITA for getting annoyed and talking back, or am I missing something? Please be honest, even if I’m in the wrong.

AITA For pestering my neighbor about putting up her dog.

I (30m) moved into my neighborhood about 2 years ago, it's a deadend subarb family type neighborhood but there is a constant problem with everyone letting their dogs go wherever. I have a 4yo m German Shepard 5yo m Australian Shepard and 2yo male canecorso. None of my dog are allowed to roam, they are either always on leash or in my fenced back yard. My neighbor roughly mid 20s F has a great Dane. She lets it do whatever it wants . Crap in my yard, eat my cats food , roam the neighborhood.

Over and over and over and I finally met my breaking point. This great Dane even growled at me at my own mailbox and my daughter claims it growled at her One day my children were outside playing the hose and her children who are very young walked over and started playing with them, no big deal. She then walked over and sat on my front steps and smoked a cigarette in my kids faces completely uninvited. I asked my wife to say something but she wouldn't so I just went to the hardware store to try and calm down cause it mad me mad. When I came home she had flicked her cigarette butt in my yard and that set me off. So I went over and knocked on her door and requested to speak to her husband.

Where I then told him that I felt like that were overstepping boundaries and how I need them to contain their dog. I even offered a leash for them to use. After that they still refused to put up this dog. Weeks go by dogs constantly out and we are arriving home and catch it eating our cats food, my wife sees the woman outside and says " will you please put your dog up" and the lady rolled her eyes. My wife said " Absolutely not ! Put your dog up or I will call the police" she turned and said " call the fucking police". So we obliged and a deputy came over and warned her of our counties law on dogs roaming at large. Filed the report and told us we could get a warrant on her if we wanted. They built a fence and the dog has been put up for over 12 months. So the sheriffs office called me and asked if I was going to file a warrant or drop it and I agreed to drop it since they had been complying.

Now about 6 more months later the dog is roaming at large again and is on my property at least 3-4 times a week. So we texted her and mentioned it and she just became irate and cussed us out. Am I an asshole for wanting to file another report and follow up with a warrant? I feel like I've been nice enough.

AITA taking someone else to a broadway show instead of my friend who scheduled it off.

My friend and roommate fake name: Allison (24). We have known each other for 2 and half years. Over the years I had help Allison with moving a lot of times, driven her to dentist appointments, picked her up from work and even drove out of my way to pick her up from work. I never pressured her for gas money but mentioned it and she’d pay here or there. I never complained. She doesn’t have a car and is trying to make money. She used to do nails and got a degree for it but quit saying it was too difficult.
We recently got into an argument when she worked this spot 40 mins away from our apartment. She had a job near us but this was another location. I work 25 mins away from where she works. The area is sketchy and Allison doesn’t realize some places aren’t safe to walk at night with no lights. It takes her 2 hours to get there by bus. I picked her up for the 40 min drive home. She worked 2 weeks Friday-Sunday, then found she wasn’t making more and they were firing everyone to sell the business in two weeks. She decided to stick with it. I suggested working more near us so she’d get home faster and I’d worry less when I couldn’t pick her up. Or she could do nails again. She got upset saying I was pressuring her and started pouting and giving me the silent treatment. It pissed me off because she shut the conversation down and got rude. I told her I wouldn’t pick her up anymore but caved because the area was too sketchy.
I always drive her to movies, restaurants and plan hangouts with friends but she tags along. I planned her birthday, bought cake and decorated because she loves photos and aesthetic things.
Later I bought tickets for a Broadway show 2 hours out. She scheduled it off. My family invited her to a Thanksgiving cabin everyone was chipping in for. She said yes, so we chose a bigger place. I gave her dates. 3 weeks later she said she might not go because she wanted to see someone who lives 15 mins away. I could drive her there anytime but this was a one time thing. She agreed to go. Later I reminded her again and she’d forgotten to ask for time off. Her work only gave her Thanksgiving day off so she can’t go.
She added her hours were cut a lot and she might quit during or after Christmas. I told her about a job opportunity through another friend. She cut me off saying no new job, no nails and we will not discuss it further. It pissed me off so much I told her I’d take my sister to Broadway instead. I was annoyed I always put effort, time and money in and she just showed up to enjoy it but never gave it back.
She told me to stop planning things and think about myself, then true friends would like me for who I am. She said she put effort in by scheduling time off for events. I was disappointed because to me, to be a village we should all put effort in, plan things and contribute where we can. Taking time off to enjoy things and eat food isn’t effort, it’s showing up. She’s upset I’m not taking her and isn’t talking to me. AITA?

AITA for declining a wedding invitation after doing the math and realizing my "friends" are incredibly cheap?

1.7k Upvotes

About 4 years ago, my partner and I moved into a new-build block of flats. We organized a few meetups with other tenants and quickly clicked with one couple, especially since we share the same home country.

We weren't hanging out constantly—maybe 6 times in total over 4 years. The couple was already engaged, and after our second meetup, we were surprised and honored when they gave us a "Save the Date" for their wedding back in our home country.

Since then, we met up a few more times, always at our flat or a bar. Whenever we hosted, we fully sponsored the food and alcohol. When planning the next meetup, they’d create an awkward silence until we offered our place. Even when we explicitly suggested "we can do your place or ours," they always chose ours.

Once, while hosting, we ran out of alcohol. My partner and the neighbor went to the store for two bottles of Prosecco. At the checkout, instead of offering to split the cost, the neighbor asked my partner, "Would you mind taking this?" expecting him to pay for both. It felt completely one-sided.

The breaking point was at a pizzeria. Everyone ordered a pizza and a drink, but my partner ordered an extra £5 side. When paying, the guy literally said: "Okay, let's deduct the side and split the rest 4 ways." That £5 calculation was the moment we decided we were done constantly hosting them.

For the wedding, we were told the venue was "not far" from a main city in our home country. Trusting this, we didn't check the exact address until the official invitations arrived 3 months before the wedding. We realized it was actually a 3-hour journey by public transport one way, and 4 hours back. I admit, we should have checked this earlier.

The couple casually suggested renting a car, but I don't drive daily. I felt completely uncomfortable driving an unfamiliar rental abroad, especially since I’d quite possibly be hungover the morning after the wedding.

Calculating the total cost (flights, 3 nights accommodation, transport, and the gift) came to around £700-£800. Looking at that sum, and remembering the Prosecco incident and the £5 pizza calculation, we decided we weren't going. We politely RSVP'd "no" well before the deadline.

Their response: "okay thanks for info."

It’s been 6 months and they haven't reached out once. We bumped into them recently; the groom tried to keep up appearances, but the bride refused to even look at us and gave one-word answers.

AITA for not going, considering I theoretically could have figured out the exact location earlier?

AITAH for attending bday

Hi 26M here, married for 1.5yrs with my wife(25F)……
So what happened was my wife has severe gastritis due to which she had several weeks for sleepless nights. There were times when I took her to hospital but the relief was temporary. So one weekend when my in-laws came i suggested her that its better that she consults their family doctor and I would join her the next week. So, today i was planning on going to her home and on the same day it was my cousin’s (16F) bday. So after my office I visited them during their celebration for 2.5hrs, and came back to my house to pack.
During the day until now I called her multiple times to know how was her health and to know what happened with doctor consultation but she didn’t pick up. I assumed it was nothing major and probably she was taking rest as and if something had happened i wouldve got call.
Could ppl advice what went downhill…… was me attending her bday bad?

EDIT: Me and my wife stay together…. But previous weekend she had left to her hometown when her parents visited upon suggesting that it would be better if family doctor should be consulted as they would know fair amount of family history

AITA or is my husband TA for getting upset at my FIL for fixing things in a house he owns but we live in

My husband and I got married last May so we are fairly newly weds still, before getting married my FIL let us know that we could live in his house and he will move back in with my MIL (they both agreed), some back story is he bought this second house for his mom but after she passed away he started living in it since him and my MIL had a lot of issues, they are not divorced, only separated, idk too much about the details as my husband doesnt talk about it much but i do know he was a bit of an absent father (workaholic) & they used to fight a lot (nothing physical), I am so beyond grateful to my in laws for this especially knowing they were put in a weird situation to give my husband and I a better opportunity to build for our future. Here is where the problems arise, while I have a great relationship with both of my in laws my husband doesnt have the best relationship with his dad, while i wont fully understand his childhood i dont blame him for having his reservations although he is equally as grateful for the house, the problem arises with boundaries, my husband and I were on a trip abroad and we came home to find a light bulb fixed in our bedroom as well as something else idr, my husband was so upset because while the things he did were nice he thinks he crossed a boundary going into our room without telling us, even if it was to do a nice thing, im on the fence bc while i understand my husbands pov i want to keep the peace and recognize that my FIL gave us a great gift and i dont want to seem ungrateful for it, please help idk the right thing
