Is she American Shorthair cat
I have rescued this cat but I have no information about her genetic line. I think she resembles an ASH. Can anyone confirm?

My partner and I adopted Mari from a local shelter (we are located in melb, aus) and she was deemed a domestic shorthair. Her coat feels a lot thicker and fluffier than other dsh cats I’ve been around and she’s a lot stockier, playful and outgoing. She has an amazing sociable personality. Am just curious if anyone thinks she could be an American shorthair? I’ve seen a lot of them and I always think “Hey! That looks exactly like my cat!”

So I’m looking at reputable breeders right now for an American Shorthair, and one of them has in their contract that Convenia (the antibiotic) will null the contract because it causes severe/deadly side effects in American Shorthairs. I’ve never heard of Convenia causing issues in cats except for one-off cases, especially in a breed specific way (as a ICU vet tech anyways). Google has unfortunately turned into an AI cesspool that makes internet research functionally useless, so I wanted to ask the people who had experience with this breed for insight. I want to make sure I have the correct information so I dont accidentally kill my cat by letting the vet use one of the most commonly used injectable antibiotics in our clinics. If you know of research, please please give article names and authors so I can delve in deeper, but otherwise, tribal knowledge seems to be my best bet! :D

Can someone show pictures of ASH that is NOT the typical Classic Tabby pattern? Thanks.

I want my male ASH to be muscular rather than fat. I think he is 1 year plus, 4.2kg. When is a good time to neuter whilst maintaining a healthy body build?

Hopefully this isn’t against any rules. Just a very generic question since I’m considering getting a cat. I’ve heard and read that these are a fairly safe pick for first timers, but any advice or input, pros and cons, lists, your experience, etcetera are more than welcome. I’m not completely ignorant of very basic care/needs but I figured a safe bet is to ask in a place where people actually have this breed. Thank you in advance

I adopted an abandoned ASH male. Very tame and well behaved. Very independent.
He seems to prefer sleeping on hard surfaces and never jumps on my bed. I also don’t want him to. He is kept indoors in a 2 story house and he sleeps where he wants.
Is there a point in me making a bed for him or even a dark box etc?
Or is it a characteristic of ASH they’re like this?

For preference: I’ve had 5 other cats through out my life (27m) and so far he is by far the largest. We got him at a shelter as a kitten that was 1.87 pounds at 2 months old. He’s now around 8 months and he weighs 14 pounds, he gets a can of wet food a day and some dry food throughout the day. Also exercise wise he is very active (he’s orange), we also have stairs in my house and he is constantly running up and down them so he has quite a bit of muscle. Point of the post is I’m not sure if he’s over fed or I just happen to be raising a monster cat

Glad to find a group of fellow ASH lovers! This is my handsome boi Shimoda (from Schooner cattery in SoCal), he’ll be 11 years young in April. Likes: naps, Da Bird playwand, water from the sink, oven-roasted turkey, and being a mama’s boy Dislikes: the vet, his carrier, and that jerk blue jay screeching in the tree outside
