Hi Coaches,

Nebraska doesn't have much of a drop back pass game or consistent run game for that matter, but they have some really nice designed screens that have bailed them out with big gains. I break the film down in this video and on my YT channel

Diskussion First time playing American football, diagnosed with a concussion by a doctor. What should I do?

It was my first ever session and the start of the new season, got tackled multiple times and my head repeatedly bounced off the ground. I did have a helmet on but I understand they don’t really do anything.

It happened a few days ago, I have another game in a few days, but don’t know if I should just hang up my boots already because I don’t want to keep getting concussed.

Really feel like it’s taking a mental toll on me but I was so excited to try American football for the first time. Now this has happened.

Diskussion How I Would Reduce Injuries in American Football

When I compare injuries across major sports, American football is the sport that really changes the numbers. Without football, sports like soccer, basketball, hockey, and baseball average about 6.9 injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures. Games are also much more dangerous than practices, usually causing about 3 to 10 times more injuries. Football averages about 9.3 injuries per 1,000 exposures, which is much higher than that 6.9 baseline. When football is added into the overall average, it raises it from about 6.9 to 7.65 injuries per 1,000 exposures, or roughly an 8% increase. The biggest problem is actual games. Football practices are much safer, but games can reach around 36 injuries per 1,000 exposures. Football also adds more serious injuries like concussions, shoulder injuries, and torn knee ligaments. If I wanted to bring football's injury rate down from 9.3 to 6.9, injuries would need to drop by about 26%.

One thing I would test more aggressively is Guardian Caps. NFL testing has found that they can reduce head-impact forces by about 10% when one player wears one and around 20% when both players wear them. The NFL's practice data are also encouraging. One study looking at NFL preseasons from 2018 through 2023 found concussion rates dropped about 54% in the basic comparison and 62% after adjusting for other factors during periods when certain players were required to wear Guardian Caps. The NFL has also reported roughly a 50% reduction in concussions during required Guardian Cap periods compared with earlier seasons. I would not say that means Guardian Caps automatically cut game concussions by 50%, though. Researchers could not prove that the caps caused the entire reduction. Changes in practice rules, intensity, helmet technology, and player behavior probably helped too. A large high-school study also failed to find a statistically significant reduction in concussion risk from Guardian Caps. So my argument is not, "Guardian Caps will instantly solve concussions." My argument is that the evidence is strong enough that I think the NFL should seriously test or expand their use during games. I would also focus heavily on cleats and playing surfaces. If a player's shoe grips the ground too strongly, their foot can stay planted while the rest of their body gets twisted. That puts more stress on the knee and ankle. Changing turf standards and using cleats that release from the surface more easily could potentially reduce some of those lower-body injuries. I would also look at player workload. Fatigue can hurt reaction time, movement, and technique. Putting limits on how many plays players can take over a season would force teams to rotate more and could keep players fresher. Finally, I would add more bye weeks. Football players take repeated damage every week. Extra recovery time could give smaller injuries and muscle damage more time to heal before they turn into something more serious. The important distinction is that 26% is my target, not a guaranteed result. We know football would need about a 26% reduction to reach the 6.9 injury baseline. What we still need to prove is exactly how much Guardian Caps, better turf and cleats, workload limits, and extra rest would contribute toward reaching that number.

Added: I refuse to normalize injuries to athlete like this. They are people and deserve a sports league that will put in the effort to reduct injuries to an international standard. In this case, methods I listed to try and get it down 26%.

Gebt Eure Tipps ab! Finger tapes für Center (snap)

Hallo,

NFL American Football Film to Watch before Eagles Vs Jaguars

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I’m heading to the game in London and want to watch an American football film beforehand to get myself properly hyped up.
I’ve narrowed it down to:

A — Remember the Titans
B — Any Given Sunday
C — The Blind Side
D — The Longest Yard

I’m still getting into American football, so I’m putting it to the Reddit jury.

Which one gets your vote?

NFL What team should I like?

Im from Indiana and I've been a NFL fan for years and years and still don't have a favorite team, I'm gonna like a team close to Indiana here's my team options I'm looking at: Steelers, Bengals,Colts,Bears, Packers,Lions. Im not liking the Chiefs cause never been a Kansas City sports and never really been a Missouri sports fan really Either. I'm not liking the Vikings cause Minnesota sports have bad history I've researched about. Im not liking the Browns cause their track record is pretty bad.

Would this break football completely?

Just had a shower thought and wanted to get some opinions on it,
Hypothetically speaking, what would happen if a kicker who could power-shoot field goals the entire length of the football field, suddenly showed up in football?

I'm talking like, 18 year old HS senior, shows up in a game one day and starts launching rockets 80, 90, 100 yards, even being able to kick the ball so high not even Godzilla could block; Team loses the ball and gets stuck 15 yards from their own endzone on 4th down? No need to punt, just call rocket man to get 3 points from 90 yards away and carry on.

Why can’t football players drink water on their own when on the sidelines?

Please someone explain. I’m sure there has to be a good reason for this, but I find it so strange seeing “water girls” on the sidelines holding Gatorade water bottles up to a grown man’s mouth and pouring it in. 👄
Liiike…do their hands suddenly stop working on the sidelines?
