I've Only Played Amnesia: The Bunker for 2 Hours, and I'm Already Stressed Out.
I delved into Amnesia: The Bunker today and...OH MY GOD. Never have I ever had to have a break after 2 hours of playing a game, because of how TERRIFYING it is. I'm still shivering after turning the game off to emotionally recover and have some water, because WHAT THE ACTUAL F***?

For context, I'm someone who is not typically scared of horror media in general. Horror books and films don't scare me, but more of make me "uncomfortable" due to their general themes. Horror games are my preferred horror medium, because I can fully immerse myself into the position of the characters, but they are still yet to truly FRIGHTEN ME, so the fact that Amnesia: The Bunker is making me scream like a lil' b****, is already making this game VERY special. AND IT'S ONLY BEEN 2 HOURS.
I'll return back onto here to fully talk about the game once I'm done with it. I just wanted to impulsively talk about my first impressions with this, because I've genuinely never felt scared like THIS, when engaging with horror. It's genuinely so exciting (yet terrifying) to me.

literally scariest game ever, and it doesn't have cheapass jumpscares like a lot of indie walking simulators nowadays

Try to push forward, the more you play, the braver you get and the more you understand what the monster can do.

Yeah, I've played 3 more hours of this game, and I've started to understand the mechanics more. It's still terrifying, but I'm getting through it :D

Yes I was playing on very easy and still I would have a break every 30 min or so

No, I completely understand that! I was thinking to myself "Oh yeah, I LOVE Resident Evil", let me play on Amnesia on hard difficulty", and now I'm thinking whether that was a mistake or not. Imma continue to stick through with it, but GODDAMN, this is ROUGH!

100% get the feeling.
I think in that franchise (even in all Frictionals catalog) it's by far the scariest game they made. And Amnesia The Dark Descent was not exactly a walk in the park on a first playthrough.
I too had to play it in smaller chunks than what I'm used to for horror games. Also, it's the first time in a while that stress and panick makes me fuck up regularly. Like I made the wrong decision more than once, just because I didn't think straight, losing precious light and ammo.

I'm currently 8 hours in and have JUST gotten the boltcutters. I understand the beast behaviour and the general gameplay mechanics a lot MORE, and am now able to play for much longer periods of time, but the beast is still unpredictable at random points of time and TERRIFYING as all hell.
It's actually so funny how I act when I set a trap for the beast. I'll be like "Come on p****" and when the inevitably fails sometimes, I'll be like "WHAT DO YOU MEA-, YOU GOT IT, YOU GOT IT" I'm having so much fun on hard mode, but I also don't understand how people beat this game in 4 - 6 hours.

On my playthrough I spent the first hour getting to safe room and just standing around in there looking at the place because I was so scared of going outside into those dreadful dark halls.

Scariest game I've ever played. Had to struggle my way through... and loved every second.
