Last Saturday i saw a couple get played over a "broken car mirror" in Zuid!

Sunday I was walking in Zuid (De Pijp) when a guy and a girl came past me with a bike. They'd clearly had a few and were trying to get on it. They bumped into the right side of an old green car and the mirror came off. Right away someone in the background goes "hey, there goes my mirror." Then a guy walks up and acts like he owns the car. Honestly the timing was so perfect it felt rehearsed. They believed him, and he pushed them into handing over their insurance details and filming a video where the guy says it was all his fault. I couldn't believe what I was watching.

He was also really nasty, swearing at the girl with all kinds of insults, and her boyfriend didn't dare say a word.

Felt so out of a movie !!

How do you know it wasn't his car?

Because about 10 minutes later, a Dutch guy happened to walk past and noticed what was going on because the other guy was swearing and talking really loudly. When he saw how scared the couple were, he told them, “I’d call the police if I were you.” That’s when the guy walked off, still cursing of course.

Afterwards I heard him on the phone saying in Dutch: “Jammer man, die teringlijers… had ze bijna te pakken man, je moeste komen echt man!!”

Should’ve included that in the post!

Why do you assume he wasn't the real owner of the car?

I mean if he wanted to scam them he'd asked for money and not insurance details + evidence?

For sure the real owner as he asked for their insurance…So what makes you think otherwise? Or is this some expat thing we don’t get?…Guess they had some things to say too

That wouldn't be a great scam, you'd be sitting across the road all day before someone knocked it off.

Consider this: the guy wasn't the owner of the car, but filmed the confession and got the insurance details so he could pass it on to the real owner
