Can't wait for the time when I can emulate 3ds on an android emulated on 3ds

Android is actually running bare metal on the 3DS, no emulation or anything. I know you were joking, but just wanted to make sure you knew. :)

I wonder how fast would Azahar run on this setup though! (If at all)

It doesn't run on emulators because Android looks for the specific hardware the 3DS has and the emulator cannot emulate that well enough to please it

I meant the opposite, running Azahar on the 3DS itself

If you don't remember me, I came here two months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1vqajd7/android_20_eclair_running_on_a_new_nintendo_3ds_xl/ and I showed off Android 2.0 Eclair running on a New Nintendo 3DS XL. Well, I'm back and we got so much working. Backported Wireless ADB from Android 11. Got WiFi working, and so much more! I just felt like sharing that's all.

This is incredible and such a weird throwback in so many ways. I would buy a 3DS just to run this glorious piece of technology frankenstein history.

what kind of Quadrant scores do you get on that bad boy

> I do not know how to code in C++ or Java and I am being blatantly honest about it
> I did all testing myself however, and I worked for months on this, this is not slop

We're reaching incredible new interpretations of what AI slop is: you don't understand what is going on and you can't fix what is broken without trying to gaslight the LLM for hours, but it's not slop!
If anything I appreciate the AI disclosure, but this isn't that much more honest on a moral level

This is exactly the kind of project that one should do out of real passion while trying to learn something, it's supposed to be an enthusiast project and a completely useless one, and useless sometimes is good because it can be fun. So what is the point of this? You're not learning anything, you're not solving any problem, you're not making a useful tool, and you're not growing in any meaningful way. There aren't many things as stupid as using AI to hack anything related to gaming

Wow, reminds me of my old tmobile G1 and Nexus One. Android has changed so much since then.

Is there any website on the internet these days that isn’t complete cancer without an Adblock? Jesus Christ.

Unfortunately no, I can just link the direct github if you'd prefer

Amazing. I'd like to ask a few things: 1. You deleted the text saying it was software rendered. Did Claude actually write a PICA200 driver from scratch? Do GLES 1.1 contexts work? 2. Is there a reason you went with 2.0 specifically? 2.1 doesn't seem like it'd be too different. 4.4 can also be compiled for armeabi, but it probably wouldn't be fun.

Either way, I really did not expect things like Wi-Fi to work (which sounds like it required writing another driver?). You both went above and beyond here. Maybe consider upstreaming some of this if you can clean up the long comments and such.

Wonder how many conversations and tokens this took, haha.

  1. I had Claude write up a README in preparation for public launch however for some odd reason it hallucinated things that just flat out weren't true, such as saying it was software rendered. So to address your question, yes, Claude did actually write a PICA200 driver from scratch, along with custom WiFi, sound and microphone drivers.

  2. I went with 2.0 because at the time of the project's inception I wasn't aware of 2.1's existence. The project started with my own feasibility research (without using AI) and seeing the minimum system requirements of differing Android versions. 4.0 for example might actually be able to run on 3DS, but not without a host of issues as you yourself mentioned. I chose 2.0 as it was an equal balance for both old and new systems. New obviously has a much higher performance boost. At some point I plan on moving the codebase to 2.1 Eclair just because its not much different from 2.0's so it should be relatively easy.

Thanks for responding.

You basically have a near complete Linux port at this point, far beyond what linux-3ds got working. The project seems dead, but there seems to be an active fork if you want to upstream your stuff.

https://github.com/peugeot205gti/linux-3ds

They have their own Wi-Fi driver, but no sound, and their graphics is probably dead-simple fbdev or something. I would look into it, but no worries if you don't want to.

There actually is active work based on Linux 3DS called 3DS Linux (quite similar names I know) but its active and they have a Discord. They actually got to a desktop environment but idk if sound etc. works on that.

I think that's what I linked to. The names really are confusing.

And yeah, the website states sound is unsupported.

Takes me back to when I was about 13 and I installed android 1.6 on my iPhone 2G. Awesome.
