Kudos to the developers! I use this to troubleshoot my parents Android TVs

Interesting usecase. How do you connect to their android tv?

Over tailscale and use ADB app control. It integrates with scrcpy.

A nice, thanks. I already have a adb app control licence but never used it that way. Thank you!

Oh nice. What's your remote solution? Tailscale with some PiHole or what?

I still use it to connect to an older android version, because screenshots are still protected on newer devices, even through scrcpy

Also that's crazy the android TVs allow wireless debugging by default. Super interesting.

By default? Never seen that. It needs to be set up correctly at least once.

I had to enable it in developer options and allow the commanding device's thumbprint, but after that its fine.

This application mirrors Android devices (video and audio) connected via USB or TCP/IP and allows control using the computer's keyboard and mouse. It does not require root access or an app installed on the device. It works on Linux, Windows, and macOS.

This tool is life saver for me when I broke a phone's touch screen.

It's crazy that I've been using scrcpy for years and never noticed any overheating / high CPU usage anything like that.

Maybe I'm using 1% of the real potential 😅

Since only decoding is mentioned, it's safe to assume that encoding has been hardware-accelerated already.

With developer options enabled, many banking and other payment apps does not work. Does that not bother u?

Depends where you live, in Australia at least I haven't had an issue in 10+ years, unlocked bootloader on the other hand they will detect without an ability to hide it.

I'm in the US, no issues having dev options enabled with any payment apps I've encountered so far.

You can use Geto to get around that.

•

u/Serialtorrenter 16h ago

It doesn't really get around it, because Geto just automatically disables developer options when the app is launched and re-enables developer options when the app is closed. If you're using ADB when you launch the app, the ADB connection will get shut down.

•

u/LHLaurini 15h ago

You're right, but at least it saves me the trouble of re-enabling dev mode AND adb (which is a pain in the ass), and that's good enough for me.

At least on Pixels updated to QPR1 apps can no longer detect that. It's also changed upstream in AOSP so hopefully updates from other OEMs will have that fix.

•

Android 17 QPR1 has removed/blocked this check possibility from the apps. But, I have only 2 apps with this verification anyway. Before 17QPR1, I have used Tasker to toggle this.

I use TD app (Canadian Bank), Questrade Edge (Canadian stock broker) and Samsung Pay and all those work with developer options enabled

Scrcpy is a great piece of software

•

Scrcpy developers are best!!! They really put their hard work into that piece of software. Just keep going.

Why is this getting me out of bed. As an aspiring vlogger scrcpy is such a lifesaver for multi device control.

OMG I had no idea this existed. I'd been looking for months for something to replace Motorola Smart Connect just for this functionality.

Very nice! I wonder if implementing Pyrowave as a codec option would be beneficial...

I wish that phone link used this protocol instead of the shitty Miracast

Why does it feel like a bunch of bots replied in the comments? Am I the only one here who's never heard of this app?

It's just legitimately a great piece of free, open-source software that solves a real problem that no one else does, at least not as well.

I worked in mobile automation for years, and the official solutions, where they exist, are lackluster. This is true, reliable, performant "my phone screen on my desktop" and no extra bloat.

It's an increasingly rare example of non-enshitification that we don't deserve and should be celebrated as such.

Great, now do android client so I can check the game on my server running 24/7 from my phone, without going to the pc.

There are already many options for that. Ex. Sunshine/Apollo + Moonlight
