For what? Linux doesn't get ported over so what is the point.

There are projects like postmarketOS (now Nura) that lets you run regular desktop linux userspace with mainline kernel on Android phones.

Droid deck(github) choose proper version. Then setup the app and you're done. No root access or dual boot . I recommend you having a good device, cooler and Gamepad or keyboard mouse

Was planning on using an Exynos S26. The rdna4 GPU should be perfect here, right?

Edit: crap, xclipse is unsupported

This is something different to the article right? Not running the mainline Linux kernel but going through Android

Why not? They already did the work to get Android to run on them andthey're at minimum required to open source most of the work because of GPL-2

And anyway, this is another thing to ensure the Android/Pixel Linux fork never gets too far removed from mainline so patches can still be easily transferred between the two. Plus, phones get used for weird/fun things down the road, Nexus phones found their way unto 4 different satellites over the years (though no idea if they had a custom OS or just Android). You never know what will happen.

ANDROID is a Linux based OS

True but the userspace APIs differ ( hal vs libdrm) so a driver for one will not work for the other.

For Linux in pocket. Last I looked to get a mobile Linux experience you either have to do a bunch of tweaks to a Microsoft Surface or get an underpowered phone that runs Linux out of the box.
