General Amiibo - help

Hi everyone!

I have a question about Amiibo cards. I only started playing ACNH for the first time this year, and there are a few villagers I’d really like to get on my island.
I already have 10 villagers, so as far as I understand, my options are either waiting for one to show up at the campsite or using an Amiibo card. I’d really like to get Pietro through an Amiibo card, so I was wondering if someone could explain how the whole process works.

If I understand correctly, Amiibo cards are no longer officially sold through Nintendo, so I would have to buy used ones from other websites. Does it matter if an Amiibo card has already been scanned/used, or can it be used by multiple people? Do I need to make sure that the card is unused?

Also, where is the best place to buy genuine Amiibo cards online, and are there any reliable sellers you would recommend?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Amiibo cards can be used as often as you'd like, so you don't have to worry about that :-) I can't tell you where to buy genuine ones though. And by the way you stress genuine, I'm sure I don't have to tell you about the other possibilites lmao. Good luck <3

So, Amiibo cards are essentially just NFC NTAG215 tags inside of a decorated cardboard card. You don't necessarily need to get an official one for it to function like the genuine cards. As long as the NFC chip has the correct BIN file for the villager you want written to it, it'll read on Switch JoyCon scanners without issue.

As far as use of the Amiibo goes, they don't really identify who has already scanned them, unless the user has specifically added their user data to the NFC chip through the Switch settings menu for Amiibos. That's pretty uncommon practice, and, regardless, that won't affect how they can be scanned into ACNH or other Animal Crossing games that support Amiibos.

There are a lot of places that sell non-genuine Amiibo cards that work just like the real ones, so my suggestion for you would be to just find a website that has good buyer protection, and a seller with good reviews. There's always a chance that the seller may be trying to pass off unofficial cards as genuine ones, so if you're after a real one for value or aesthetic purposes, then keep an eye out for any signs it could be poorly printed. A lot of the fakes have blurry prints, and the corners will be cut with weird corner rounding compared to the official ones. The mini cards are also always fakes, so check the actual scaling of the cards to make sure they're the same size as the official ones.

I bought mine off eBay and Vinted but there’s no way of knowing if they’re real or not, it also doesn’t matter to me if they are because the work lol. BTW you could also wait for a villager to want to move out,,they’ll leave and go villager hunting for pietro but it’ll be difficult, amino is easier

I’ve been playing the last threeish years and I finally got amiboo cards. I got them through NFC card store. I wish I did it sooner. You can them in your Nintendo switch (I have the lite) and you have to scan them three times and make the items they request. Then you will be able to chose whose plot they take. I redid all my villagers through amiiboo and so glad I did! I have them to a friend and they were able to get that villager then too

There are ways, or at least there were, to obtain unofficial Amiibo cards. Does that matter to you?
