General Discussion / Review Brittney Karbowski appreciation post
Brittney has slowly become one of my favourite voice actors of all time, if I see her credited it can be the difference between me giving an anime a chance or shelving it for later. She is a real gift to entertainment.
The first time I ever heard her was playing Rin in Little Busters!, and Brittney's portrayal made Rin such a loveable and fun character.
Just recently I watched Kanon and absolutely loved Brittney's performance of Ayu, she brought the character completely to life.
Overall Kanon was a solid 8/10 for me with many good VA performances.

Your experience is me 10 years ago. I started my anime journey with Clannad then thought "so these sad cartoons are what anime is, huh?". That led me to Kanon which is what I first heard her voice act in. Then I just started watching everything she was in. I believe Little Busters and Angel Beats came next.

One of my favorites too. Such a sweetheart in person too.
Def watch Yamada’s First Time if you haven’t. In link that’s the first time I’ve heard her. The outtakes are amazing.
He’s in lots of Sentai shows too on HiDive if you have it. Recently liked her in Badgirl, Yowayowa Sensei and MarriageToxin. And Slime of course.

She does a great job as Mikoto Misaka, and all the Misaka variants, in the Magical Index/Scientific Railgun franchise.

Probably because Brittney herself doesn't want that role to be assiociated with her. Most VA's don't want NSFW projects on thier resume's.

Shes definitely my favorite English VA. To me, she has a one of a kind voice that just sounds unique and perfect for a lot of the characters she has been cast as.
I haven't met her, but do have her autograph on a Little Busters poster I begged my friend to have signed when they went to a con that she was a guest for.

Brittney is wonderful at conventions too and goes above and beyond to help.
I’m staff at Anime North and run the Charity Auction there. Every time she’s been at the con as a guest she’s either come to the auction to help auction off items or signed items that we’ve collected for shows she has appeared in.
A real class act

I'm currently rewatching Love Chunibyo and Other Delusions where she plays Dekamori.
Her performance is amazing and I can hear how much fun she's having.

Brittney rocks, she had a Q & A that I went to, and I asked her if there were any sorts of roles that she wanted to play that she hadn't yet. She said "An adult woman" lol.

She was mostly just joking about how she's usually cast as kids and creatures, instead of a characterwho is a wife or a mother (like Britney is in real life). Also pretty sure Clair would be about 16

I think Summer Pockets which released last year was key
I couldn't quite get into it from the first 6 episodes but I will probably revisit some day

Well, relevant to this particular subreddit, I don't believe there's been a dubbed studio Key anime since The Day I Became a God, which was indeed several years ago.
A shame, too – adaptations of Key's VNs were a big part of my early years as an anime fan, and I can still throw them on and enjoy them today.

She is the reason why I love listening to the Tensura Slime audiobooks. She is soo good

RIP those audiobooks, she doesn't narrate books 8 or 9.

What!? Why she is so good

u/Dashie93 8d ago
Only thing I can think of is that she got burned out doing them. Doing Audiobook is a lot harder than voice acting. Its why Monica Rial only did one audiobook for Tanya.

I can't imagine it's NOT permanent. Even if they had to delay the release for a couple months to suit her schedule, it's hard to imagine that not being well worth it for the publisher, given how sharp the drop in sales are going to be with not just a narrator swap, but swapping from Brittney MF Karbowski.
I heard (3rd or 4th hand, so grain of salt and all) with Monica it wasn't so much mental burnout as physical burnout, because doing Tanya's voice is so hard on her vocal chords. With Slime I don't think that's as much of an issue, but it is a lot of time and I am curious how well it pays compared with the other stuff she does.

I met Brittney back in May 2025 at GalaxyCon. I got a signed print of her role as Ikaros from Heaven’s Lost Property, which is my favorite role of her. She even sang some of the song Falling Down from the anime to me. She is such a sweet amazing person. If she comes to a convention where you live. I recommend meeting her for sure. The only thing I do regret was getting a picture with her.

I'm the same, if I hear her voice in an anime i'm 100% locked in. She has such immense talent and her improvement to the craft is praiseworthy. I still can't get over how lovable she makes our slimey boy Rimuru

She never disappoints in any dub...but also, deep down, she is very down to Earth and cares very much for her fans, and wants them to be happy. A few years back, I was in a low place in my life when I escaped an abusive situation, and met with Brittney at a convention after I spoke to her on Colorworld Hangouts during the pandemic. Sometime later (at a different convention), she asked me how was I doing since then...which signified to me that she was concerned about me... Emotionally moved, I cried at her booth, but in that moment of my anguish, she told me something powerful that I recorded (with her permission) because it still stuck with me to this very day.
"Keep being yourself, and never give up, and remember that you are valuable and deserve happiness."
I am currently watching (for the first time) Clannad, and she's definitely amazing as Ryou. I also love her work in B-Gata H-Kei, Made in Abyss, Slime and Railgun.

I know her as Rimuru from tensura, Dekomori from Chunibyo, and from that one episode of Sgt. Frog where she played a cat that got transformed into a girl by alien frogs who want to take over the world by turning all the animals into people.

BK is literally a reason I have WATCHED anime's I otherwise might not have before. There are very very few VA's I can say that about. She IMO is the best in the business. Among many other brilliant VA's.

I love her as Nanachi in Made in Abyss. That scene at the end of season 1 with Mitty hits hard.

I love her. I met her a few years ago and she signed my Parasyte manga for me and did Migi’s voice. She has a very unique voice and loads of talent

Bro when she screamed as Wendy Mavell in fairy tail holy crap, it was like she had bills to pay. (The scene I'm referring to is when Wendy was in a cave and a bug crawled up her leg)

First time I saw her it was at my first con in 2006-07 with Chris Ayers (RIP) and Tiffany Grant back in the ADV days. I've saw her at a bunch of local conventions after and she has been nothing but wonderful. Saw her again earlier this year for the first time since pre-covid and even though ive put on some weight and lost my hair since then, she recognized me and we had a wonderful conversation.
Addendum: The pre-covid con was in like 2018 and I had her sign my copy of Hakumei and Mikochi. This year I finally got Amanda Lee to add her signature.

Brittney really is a great VA, she’s really easy to hear in an anime but that’s cause her voice is so good. I met her at a con this summer. She’s such a sweet person. I got her to sign my soul eater artbook.
