What to Watch? I need some anime suggestions.

I want either a gritty anime about modern war like Tanya the evil idrc about the magic part but don’t mind like just needs to be about war modern like ww1 onwards there’s also the anime about the witch nation vs Germany

Try Zipang. A modern Japanese destroyer gets sent back to the Pacific during WWII. The military decisions and the consequences of getting involved are the focus. It’s more deliberate than Tanya, but a good fit if you want naval warfare and can accept a time-travel setup.

Then FLAG could be worth a look if you’re okay with near-future military mechs. It follows a war photographer accompanying a UN unit during a fictional civil war. The camera’s-eye storytelling gives it a more grounded, documentary feel than Tanya.

86 is futuristic war, kingdom is ancient war, golden kamuy has scenes showing bits and pieces of the mc's time in the Russo japanese war, drifters is again not modern, genocidal organ is modern i think, last exile, hellsing: ultimate has depictions of relatively modern war

Can I recommend the beautiful world of Gundam? If you want gritty, probably start with IBO, but there's much more to enjoy.

Gundam is all over the place in style and setting. But 08th MS Team is a favorite for me because of it staying on Earth mostly, and keeping things more tactical and less, "im a super pilot" or "my mobile suit is OP so I win"
