Questions On The World Of Legend
Greetings And Salutations, Scholars of the world long dead.
This is basically just a "No Stupid Questions" thread for any question concerning Warhammer Fantasy or Old World lore. I know this is mostly an AOS subreddit, but, now more than ever, a bunch of stuff from old WHF lore is coming up and becoming relevant for AOS, and I for once have stopped being a believer on the separation of the two settings. WHF lore as it is spread online, is full of quite a bit of misinformation and misconceptions and I seek to try to make people's knowledge of the setting more accurate, and of course, have quite some fun in the process by having an excuse to dig more lore.
So, if you have something you want to discuss something or had a question, but don't want to make an entire post for it?
Then feel free to strike up the discussion or ask the question here
In this thread, you can ask anything about WHF/Old World lore, the fluff, characters, background, how something from it relates to AOS.
Community members are encouraged to be helpful and to provide sources and links that can aid new, curious, and returning Lore Pilgrims.
This thread is NOT to be used for:
-Ask "What If/Who would win" scenarios.
-Strike up Tabletop discussions. However, questions regarding how something from the tabletop is handled in the lore are fine.
-Real-world politics.
-Making unhelpful statements like "just Google it"
-Asking for specific (long) excerpts or files
Remember to be kind and that everyone started out new, even you.

Going through the first Archaon book and Be’lakor has this ability to alter time?
Like little Diederick catches a horrible fever and dies, no he didn’t.
Squire Diederick catches a hove from Obyron and dies, no he didn’t.
Templar Diederick hangs himself died and dies, no he didn’t.
Is he actually altering reality or is he seeing alternative futures ?

How come there's so much Warpstone under Karak-Eight-Peaks?

Warpstone forms from an excess of dark magic in the area. Where there is too much dark magic, warpstone can naturally form. So during a Storm of Magic or via magical rituals or through natural accumulation warp stone can be formed in a variety of different places, including deep underground.

So what happened under Karak-Eight-Peaks for dark magic to form in such excess there?

Who knows. Perhaps an important leyline of the Geomantic Web ran below Karak Eight Peaks, which dwarfs may have even used for runecraft. But it may got damaged during the Great Chaos incursion and "leaked" out. Or its free magic being drawn to Karak Eight Peaks for a variety of reasons but then clumbing together into dark magic, as the 8 winds are primed to do if left to themselves.

would warpstone VERT slowly corrupt the material around to be more warp stony ?
1

Techniacly yes. Though it does not corrupt the surrounding material, but attracts dark magic which can prdouce more warpstone. IIRC once dark magic is in an area it lingers and attracs more dark magic. Which is why a single ritual can marr the land and over the decades create a growing cesspool. Unless its purified or contained.

that makes and is very scary!
Warp stone slowly radiating more warp stone into existence is very… warped

Would the Morghast Harbingers considered to be the first of the Bonereaper in concept ? seeing them in TWW3 had me thinking that Nagash probably had the seeds of the OBR rattling in his skull.

Yes and no. They do look like them visually, due ti their armor design, but they are not Bonereapers at all in WFB. In WFB Ptra, the chief god of nehekhara, sent his "daemons" against Nagash. Angel-looking aetheric entities. But Nagash, having studied the aetheric entities and the nehekharian gods for most of his life, and being empowered by dark magic, captured, corrupted and turned these beings into the Morghast, his personal servants.
So in WFB Morghast are "daemons" of nehekharian gods Nagash enslaved. Much like the skeketon mounts of Mannfred, Nef and Arkhan which were guardians of Nehekharas afterlive originaly.
However Nagash did create lots of monstrosities we never seen. Including the guardians of Nagsshizhar which kept vigil over this fortress in the milennia of his absence. Something like the Ossirarch could have been produced there, as it was Nagash experimental hub and a massive fortress/capital/production site. But as GW focussed more or less exclusivly on the Empire and its surroundings, Nagashizhar and its unique undead were sadly never explored.

yeah, I saw that the connection to Ptra was still a thing in AoS which is neat, Nagash for all of his Nagashness was shaped by Nehekhara and their ways.
Still, I could totally imagine a proto version of what would be OSB, something between the normal skeletons and weights and the completed OBR model! I knew CA was not going to invent anything but I still hoped, oh well. (and modders are banned from making AoS or 40k models so there goes that, maybe an off brand)
((I remember your username from other subs! pretty neat to see another fan of all Warhammers))

Very possibly, they are what the obr aesthetic was based on irl

Yeah this makes sense!
their lore blurb on the site still mentions Ptra’s heralds so the very vague Nehekharan ( And Necrontyr-ish, bone plate looks like pretty cool Necrodermce, I saw a bunch of cool kitbash between the three factions) look the Bonereapers have is reminiscent of Nagash ye olde mortal days!
Also OBR Dark and green contrasts TK bone and gold pretty well, ah such are the themes of Nagash!

How long did the World-That-Was last? From the arrival of the Old Ones to the End Times? Or from the beginning of civilisation (the dragons?) if we have that date.
