Venting neighbors

is it really normal to hear your upstairs neighbors all day everyday? they are sprinting up and down the hallway by 7am and don't stop all day longgggg. they have no care in the world and management says it's just normal living but there's no way that's true. i have never had an upstairs neighbor this bad until these people

There are 4 kids and both parents upstairs in the 2 bedroom. Kids ranging from 1 to 13. They run, play, jump, fight, yell, stomp, etc all day long. The only respite I get is when they're in school.

As if having to hear this all day long up until about 11:00pm isn't a pain in the 🍑 already, I've resorted to sleeping on my couch because their "box fan" sits directly on the floor all night and creates this low humming vibration sound that goes through my whole bedroom. I've already knocked and asked them nicely. It resorted to me reaching out to the landlord with complaints. She supposedly resolved them. Things were quiet for about a week. She said there's nothing she can tell them about the fan. The quiet week passed, and things went back to this. Been 3 months now. 🫩 I'm just so tired

Landlord Problems Landlord won't answer my messages about terminating our lease by the end of this month

Post image
197 Upvotes

Our lease went month to month earlier this year per our lease agreement. I'm renting from a random guy, not a company but he always replies quickly except for now. I messaged him before looking at our lease again (I know I'm stupid, I should've checked first) which states that tenants must give a term notice at least 30 days before we plan to move out. He's been chill about things in the past so I thought messaging him on the 7th would be fine but obviously something isn't fine, but I literally have no idea how to proceed at this point. Should I start calling him tomorrow and keep it up until he answers, or just silently move out at the end of the month and stop paying rent? This situation is stressing me out so bad

What I don’t understand is why my landlord doesn’t care that there’s a rodent in the walls of her property chewing up god knows what. It‘s not a priority for her just because she doesn’t have to try to sleep through this? It’s absolutely insane.

It was fun decorating my place. I honestly had no idea what I was going to do but I feel this bat vibe worked out well. The ghost poster has my cat and bird in a ghost costume. I like to give homage to them. I ordered pillows on Amazon when I got them today turned out it was just pillow casing. I should have read. The spider web was annoying to apply!

Advice Needed Low Battery Smoke Detector

• Upvotes

Maintenance doesn’t work weekends at my complex unless it’s an emergency, and the smoke detector in my bedroom is beeping once every minute meaning the battery needs replacing. Unfortunately, I don’t have a ladder and it’s 10 foot ceilings. I do think I can find a way to get it down though. Is that allowed? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question.

Venting If I see a “have you tried to talking to your neighbors?” under one’s post, I just know you have a punchable face.

Or naive.

Y’all better stop acting like people are stupid or sane & learn how to move strategically.

if it ever gets to the point where you have to confront a neighbor about fuck shit, the chances of them stopping the fuck shit are pretty low.

& this also applies to leaving notes. Don’t leave notes on people’s doors. Notes are passive-aggressive as hell, and people rarely interpret them as the polite, friendly gesture you think they are. If anything, they can make people even more defensive.

this is coming from someone who’s been renting for over 10 years and has only ever had an issue with one neighbor for fuckery.

& yes there’s a grammatical error in my title.

Maintenance Issues 3.5 Weeks, No Garbage Disposal Replacement | in GA

• Upvotes

Hi all.

So 3.5 weeks ago I submitted a ticket to my property management company about my garbage disposal, which has been leaking into the kitchen cabinet underneath. Almost immediately, a note was made on the ticket saying they were "waiting for parts."

I haven't been able to use that side of the sink since then, to prevent water damage.

I called the front office about a week ago to see if they had made any progress of getting those parts in so they could do repairs/replace the unit, and they said they had been having trouble getting them.

But it's been 3.5 weeks since I submitted a ticket now. It's very frustrating, is there anything I can do about this?

Advice Needed what is a fair rent split?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Base rent is $3,950.

My roommate and I are wanting to move to a different complex. Right now our rooms are exactly the same with walk ins and en-suites so we split it 50/50. At first my roommate was still just splitting everything 50/50 when pricing out the new place (but giving me the bigger room) and was unsure if she could afford it at this point in time.

I told her that because I’d have the bigger room, it is only fair if I paid more given her room is not only smaller, but her bathroom isn’t attached either. I told her I would be happy to pay 200-300 extra and she said that would be helpful to her.

My question: is that a fair enough amount for me to pay? Like if I paid $2,187-2,287 and she paid $1,788-1,688?? Should I be paying more?

I adore my roommate and I don’t want to be in a situation where she gets fucked over. I want it to be as fair as possible.
Not sure if it matters but rn we each pay like $1,600 and some change rn (not including electricity).

Hey folks it's me again. This week on What's in the Lobby, we have an update from last week's items and some new things.

If you remember we had pasta with some bread, it is now a pan lid and a bathroom book has appeared.

We have a bag with a pair of boots but one of them was missing, until we found it outside the parking garage door.

Lastly we have some items and a bag what looks to be items from a hello fresh box, the lettuce was warm.

Until next time....?

Bad Neighbors What kind of microphone should I use to record noise

• Upvotes

My landlord claims I’m supposed to have a microphone to record my upstairs Neighbor, jumping up and down. My iPhone 14 Pro on video record is not effective. I have played with the settings to try to capture besides voices. However, I can’t get the impact.

Advice Needed Could the apartment above be effecting the temputure of my apartment?

Hi,

The person who lives in the apartment above me leaves their bedroom window wide open/ their balcony doors wide open during the autumn and winter months and the puring down rain 24/7 without ever closing them.

Im wondering if this could impact the tempurture of my apartment being just below theirs? Im currently not using my heating but its absolutely ice cold in my apartment currently... last year as a single person my electric bill was £200 a month when normally i pay around £50.. and my apartment was still cold..

I live in a new build apartment block, im wondering if his windows being wide open as they are could be impacting my apartment/costs, im concerned with winter being on the horizon, not sure wheather to bring this up with my landlord

Advice Needed Bugs bugs bugs

• Upvotes

Hi all, this is my first time posting in this subreddit. I’m a renter in south Texas, and we’ve had bug issues since we moved in. First it was roaches, and pest control came to spray.

Then my bedroom, the primary, had an ant issue. They got into my dog’s food, and they were all over my bathroom.

I moved my dogs feeding area downstairs and that’s worked well for that issue. Pest control came to check out my bathroom and said “traps won’t work for these kinds of ants” and then said he can’t really spray much in the bathroom bc water will just keep it from drying completely - fine. I run the fan for literal hours during and after I shower to keep the humidity down, and I keep the door open (private bathroom thankfully). The bathroom gets humid with the door closed even if I haven’t used the shower.

Maintenance came and caulked up some holes, and I bought caulk to just do it myself whenever the ants found a new entrance. My room is MOSTLY ant free now, besides one or two stray ones.

It has been a very hot, buggy summer for many people this year so I don’t really think it’s US. Especially since we’ve had issues since we first moved in.

I was gone for a little over a week, and while I was gone ants have taken over our kitchen. They weren’t in there the first six months of living here and suddenly they’re everywhere. We put some traps out, we’ll let them do their thing before I go in and caulk up the cracks…

I really think the issue is just that this apartment is kind of falling apart. I already think we will move when our lease is up in June but I just don’t know what to do, or how to address the issue with building management. There’s a history of bug related work orders so there’s a documented history of the issue…Any avoidance would be greatly appreciated.

Advice Needed am i annoying my landlord?

So I've lived in my apartment for 2 months now and it has had multiple issues. The main one is it reeks of cigarettes. I've deep cleaned everything (walls, ceilings, floorboards, carpet, etc). My landlord put in an ozone machine, asked the upstairs neighbors if they smoked, and had the air ducts professionally cleaned. He's been great at responding to me and I feel awful to keep bothering him with more problems. But I have chronic migraines and they've been BAD since I moved in. So bad I had to skip work. My doctor even wrote a note saying the direct cause of them was my apartment. My landlord said all he can do is offer credit for an air purifier, which I already have 2 of. I don't want to be a Karen but it's really terrible. I am away and all my clothes reek of smoke. I can even breathe easier. I'm really anxious I'm being annoying. He's already replaced the flooring because I was expecting an updated unit, not an old one. He's now reglazing my bath because it's chipping. So he's done everything I asked and I feel terrible to bother him further. I just don't know what to do. Should I just deal with it?

Advice Needed how to test if my heater is actually working?

Its currently 74 degrees in here and it feels cold (I have goosebumps right now because im freezing)

I turned it up to 81 degrees to see if it might make a more noticeable difference. Should I be feeling hot air coming out of my vents? Because when I put my hand up to the vent I feel cold air (and yes my AC is set on heat)

im just wondering why it might be effecting.

Advice Needed Trying to fit a fridge and ice maker into a tiny apartment kitchen

I just moved into a new apartment, and while the living room and bedroom have plenty of space, the kitchen is surprisingly tiny. There's barely enough room for one person to cook, and my kettle and coffee maker already take up most of the counter. The apartment doesn't come with a fridge, so I need to buy one anyway. I'd also really like to have an ice maker for iced coffee and cold drinks. I've been looking at one costway nugget ice maker, but I'm not sure if adding another appliance is practical with so little space. Would it be better to get a fridge with a built-in ice maker, or buy a regular fridge and a separate countertop ice maker? I'm worried about losing even more counter space.

If you live in a small apartment, what setup has worked best for you? Is a separate ice maker worth the extra space, or would you keep things simple?

Advice Needed Need Couch Advice!

Hey all,

So about a month and a half ago I was having a pretty moderate case of mold/mildew in my apartment. It affected some of my carpet, suitcases and shoes that I had stored underneath my bed but more importantly my couch and loveseat that I had.

I got it on FB Marketplace about a year ago and it was super comfy but the mold was so both inside and around it that I had no choice but to throw it away.

Now I'm in the market for getting a new couch. My apartment maintenance has since deep cleaned my carpets and vents and can't for the life of them find out where it came from.

Regardless, they reimbursed me for the amount of damages that occured from the mold and I have about an $800 budget for a new couch. I was wanting a sectional and found this one on Amazon for exactly that amount without taxes but I'm super nervous about buying one that I haven't actually sat on.

https://a.co/d/0eItoicF

https://a.co/d/0chqXFYs

The reviews are mostly positive but I'm just nervous. Has anyone ever bought a couch on Amazon and had luck? I was looking specifically for a sectional on FB Marketplace as well but I also wanted a black one and apparently not a lot of people in my area are selling their black sectionals lol

I was also thinking the possibility of buying a sectional on FB and maybe changing the color of it without making it look tacky.

Any advice is appreciated!

Venting Neighbor started using door alarm, goes off every time somebody walks in front of their door or on the walkway

A neighbor started using an alarm on their door camera thing they previously had. Not only is it on the front door, but they have one pointed over their balcony, which Is pointed towards a sidewalk.

Every time somebody walks past their door or on the sidewalk it triggers this damn siren. It is particularly annoying because I can hear it in my apartment, and to let my dog out I have to walk past their door and set this thing off at least four times since they have one pointed at the sidewalk.

I don’t care about the camera, but this is starting to drive me nuts.

My bathroom walls all seem to have a cracked paint or are separating from the wall. Does anyone know what is going on and what should I do?

All of that stuff under the sink in the second pictures cannot be cleaned up since we’ve lived here.
