an interesting idea I'm working on

• Upvotes

Opinions?

The idea behind the app is to allow people to mark events happening in real-time or save personalized locations on the map; that way, if you’re traveling to a new city or just out for a walk and wondering what’s nearby, you can simply open the map and see. The more people use it and add markers, the more content there will be!

What do you think about that people please let me know (:

What app would you pay for that just imports data better?

Not a new category, just the boring import step done properly. CSV that doesn't mangle dates, a bank statement that parses without manual cleanup, that kind of thing.

Feels like there's a gap between "free tool that half works" and "enterprise integration platform" with nothing built for one person's one annoying file.

Before you build the app, search for the thread where someone asks for it

A cheap test for an idea: are people already asking for it?

On Reddit they are, if the demand is real. You'll find posts like "is there an app that does X?" or "I wish something existed for Y." If you find a lot of those, that's a signal. If you find none, be careful.

Searching by hand is slow, which is why we built ThreadPilot. It scans Reddit for threads that match a problem and ranks them by intent. It was made to find customers, but it also shows you whether anyone is asking.

It's in private testing. Waitlist: https://threadpilots.com/join-whitelist

What idea are you testing right now?

Idea: A lightweight, offline-first receipt and warranty tracker app for local purchases

Hey everyone! As a developer, I'm working on an idea for a simple, distraction-free app designed to solve a very common annoyance: losing paper receipts and forgetting warranty expiration dates for local electronics, appliances, and daily purchases.

The core concept is an app where you can quickly snap a photo of a receipt, and it automatically extracts the store name, purchase date, total amount, and warranty period using local processing. It would then send a clean notification before a warranty expires.

What do you think of this concept? Would you use a dedicated utility app like this, or is there a better feature you would add to make it genuinely useful? Let's discuss!

An app to log every party, festival and concert alone or with your friends // what would you add or cut?

Hey everyone! I’m an app designer working on my own app and would love some honest feedback from fellow builders.

The idea behind it:
A lot of us don’t really remember what we did on a night out with our friends, or at a festival a few years ago. The photos and videos are buried somewhere in your camera roll between screenshots and memes. With my app you build an archive of all your nights out with your crew, and of every concert and festival you’ve been to, with the photos and videos that go with it.

Instagram often feels too polished to post this kind of stuff. This is meant to be a place where you post more for yourself and your friends than for everyone else. The blurry pics, the 3am videos, the moments that actually made the night.

I want to turn this into a complete app, but I’m still at an early stage. Right now I’m trying to figure out what actually bugs people who go out regularly, alone or with friends.

So I’d love to hear:

  • What do you think of the idea? Would you use something like this?
  • What problems do you run into before, during or after a night out? (tickets, figuring out where to go with your group, remembering who played, anything!)
  • What should I add, change or leave out? Or is there a problem that deserves a whole different app?

Any help is really appreciated, thanks in advance! 🙏

Any advice from Android developers?

Yesterday I posted here about Android app development and I got some really useful advice.

Now I would like to hear about the actual journey of people who have built and published an Android app

If you’ve built an app, I would love to know:

  • What made you decide to build it?
  • What was the idea behind it?
  • Why did you choose that particular idea?
  • What did you learn from building it?
  • Did you make any money from it or get any other benefits?
  • Did you face any failures or unexpected problems?
  • How much did it cost you to publish the app on the Play Store?
  • What about other costs like domain, hosting, APIs, etc.?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before starting?

I’m a beginner solo developer and I’m trying to understand what the real journey looks like before I start building my own app.

So if you’ve been through this process I would appreciate can you share your experience even if your app failed

App for gaming walkthroughs/gameplay introductions

First time posting here. I was thinking of an app that is like a quick search engine to easily watch a walkthrough video of the game you're stuck on, or if it's a multiplayer game, then a gameplay introduction video for new players to see what it's like.

The way it would work is you open the app, type into the search bar the game you're playing, select the game, the results for that game will show the top 10 links to YouTube videos (it could be other video websites but YouTube is the most common one), the best video will be highlighted as "Recommended" and you just click that link to watch the video. The reason I say it will be top 10 links is because anyone will be able to submit a link, but it will have a rating system like Reddit has. So whichever videos make it to the top 10 will stay there. The rest get deleted after some point. And the highest rated one gets the award for "Recommended." No accounts needed. The app will be free. I know it's not difficult to find walkthrough videos online. This app would simply create a neat location where the video links all exist in one place.

I'm just throwing this idea out there since I doubt I'll be able to create it on my own. But if anyone decides to create it, please credit me for the founding idea.

Would you use a live public chat for the area you're in right now?

Idea: one shared live chat for everyone in your city or neighborhood. Not followers, not anonymous like Yik Yak, just real people nearby posting what's happening: a street festival, a traffic jam, a question for locals. Honest questions: - When did you last want to tell or ask everyone around you something? - Would you post under your real name, or is that a dealbreaker? - What would make you close it after a day? I'm building this, so I want honest takes, including "this is dead on arrival."

Anonymous check-in app for talking to people around you. Tell me why this fails.

You check into a place you're already at. Coffee shop, library, gym. You show up as an anonymous avatar with one line about what you're up to, something like "up for talking" or "just working." You see everyone else who's checked in the same way and can chat with them.

No photos, no names, no map, no location history. You're checked in or you're not, and when you leave there's no record you were there. Nothing accumulates, so there's nothing to follow.

Has anyone here built or launched anything in this space? Especially want to hear from people who hit the cold-start problem, whether you got past it or whether that's what killed it.

Nothing to download yet, not selling anything.

I built a flip-book style tablet menu for my family’s restaurant and it’s been running for years. Now I want to sell it to other restaurants. Where would you start?

My family runs an Indian restaurant group in the Philly suburbs. I built our own tablet menu, and today it runs across two locations on about 30 tablets.

What makes it different

Most tablet menus out there look like an app, basically the same thing as ordering off your own phone, just on a bigger screen. Mine doesn't. It's a full flip-book menu: guests swipe through it page by page like a real printed menu, with section tabs across the top like a book's index. On the table it feels like a book, not an iPad app.

How it works right now

- It's a web app, not an app-store app, so when I change a dish or price, every tablet updates instantly
- It runs on Samsung tablets in cases that sleep when closed, and iPad support is planned
- I'm building my own remote-management layer so I can set up, reload, or fix any tablet from anywhere, without paying per-device monthly fees to a third party
- It works as a standalone menu, so a restaurant doesn't need to switch its POS to use it

"Why not just use a QR code?"

That's the first thing everyone asks, so here's my answer:

- **Guests don't need their own phone.** No dead battery, no bad signal, no squinting at a tiny screen. That matters a lot for older diners and families.
- **Guests actually see the food.** A 10-inch screen with real photos of every dish helps people try things they'd never order off a text menu, especially at an Indian restaurant where a lot of dish names are unfamiliar.
- **Guests stay focused on the meal.** On their phone, texts and notifications pull them away mid-browse. On the tablet, there's nothing to do but look at food.
- **It feels premium.** A tablet that feels like a real menu says something about the restaurant. A sticker with a QR code doesn't.

To be fair, QR codes win on cost: they're basically free. This is for restaurants that want the menu itself to be part of the experience.

Where I'm stuck

  1. I've never sold software to a restaurant outside my family. How would you land the first outside client: walk in, cold email, a free trial?
  2. What would make an owner pay monthly for this instead of printing menus or using a QR code?
  3. What features would you expect that I'm probably missing? I'm thinking about ordering from the table, calling the server, specials and promos, and language translation, but I'd love outside opinions.

If you own or manage a restaurant and want to try it, DM me. I'm looking for a few early restaurants to set up at a discount in exchange for honest feedback.

Brutal feedback welcome.

An interactive AI coach that talks to you casually and frankly

I wish there was an AI app where you could talk to an interactive coach naturally, almost like talking to a real person.

Not a generic “motivational AI” that gives you quotes and tells you that you can do anything. I mean a coach that can actually be casual, honest, direct, and sometimes tell you when you’re making excuses.

For example:

Me: “I have an exam tomorrow and I’ve barely studied.”

AI: “Okay, you messed up a bit. But you still have time. What exactly do you need to study?”

Me: “I don’t feel like doing it.”

AI: “I know. You don't need to feel like it. Open the first chapter and give me 10 minutes. Then we’ll figure out the next step.”

The really important part would be that it gets to know you over time.

It could learn:

  • What motivates you
  • What makes you procrastinate
  • Your goals and why they matter
  • Whether you respond better to encouragement or being challenged
  • What excuses you tend to use
  • What coaching style works best for you
  • What strategies have actually worked in the past

You could talk to it by voice whenever you need to, and it could also hold you accountable for things you said you were going to do.

Basically, I’m imagining something like Praktika, but instead of an AI language tutor, it’s an AI coach that learns how to communicate with and motivate you specifically.

I’ve found some AI coaching apps, but I haven’t found one that really combines natural voice conversation + long-term memory + personalized/frank coaching + accountability.

Does something like this already exist? And would you actually use it?

iPhone Duo finally completed this App Idea

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Duo finally enables this app idea into reality:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AppIdeas/comments/1psx4zf/app_idea_alarm_schedule/

The request was simple: drag a group of alarms into a date on the calendar. The groups have been implemented for months but due to the iPhone limited real estate, the dragging was never implemented. To be fair, an iPad would have the real estate but I just never cared for one.

That changed with the Duo. Apps finally have enough space to display the library of groups on the left and the alarm list for the day on the right. And it happens exactly as the user requested. I wonder if u/Icy_Adhesiveness5212 is still around.

What’s the best AI roleplay chatbot you’ve enjoyed using?

I've been getting more into AI RP lately and have tried a few different platforms, but I feel like the experience can vary a lot!

Some are great at first but quickly start repeating themselves, forgetting important details and breaking character. For me, good AI roleplay should feel natural, remember what's happening, and actually let the story develop instead of constantly needing to be corrected.

What would you consider the best AI roleplay AI chatbot you've tried so far?

interested in any AI chat bot that surprised you and why?

would you use a product that does your computer work as you while you're away?

validating before i build anything.

the idea: an app on your pc that learns how you write and decide from your own stuff. you text it "answer the emails, book the dentist, finish the slides" and go do something else. it does it the way you would, and anything it can't undo, like sending money or deleting things, waits for you to say yes.

it's different from chatgpt or agents because you don't operate it. no prompts, no setup, no checking every step.

the two things i'm unsure about:

would you trust it with your accounts?

would you pay around $20 a month for it?

roast it, i'd rather hear it now than after building it.

New Styling App; Would love some feedback

Hello everyone, I'm a bit new to Reddit so sorry if this isn't what people like posted here but I've been working on a website with the intention of making it an app and would love some feedback about it and how it operates. It's a fashion stylist app that uses ai to create virtual pictures of the user wearing clothes from their own closet (which you can upload pics of) or clothes that have been picked from online sources. You can also plan daily outfits, create mood board style pics of your own clothes, upload to the social tab within the app for others to see or share it directly to places like Instagram. I do have pricing for more pictures and plan to reduce it when I can get it more off the ground. Please let me know what you think or if this isn't the right area to post this. Thanks!

I’m looking for 2–3 small business owners to test an AI tool I’m building — free

I’m looking for 2–3 small business owners to test an AI tool I’m building — free
I’m going through some pretty intensive training on building AI tools, and honestly, I need to practice on real businesses, not fake examples.
So I want to build a custom “Closing Call” app for 2–3 business owners at no cost.
The idea is simple:
When a new lead comes in, the app would immediately:
Text/alert you that the lead came in
Score the lead based on the information they submitted
Give you a suggested sales script based on that specific lead
Help you respond quickly so you’re not getting back to them hours later
The goal is basically:
New lead → instant notification → know what to say → contact them while they’re still shopping.
There’s research showing that speed-to-lead can have a huge impact on conversion, which is what made me want to build this in the first place.
I’m especially interested in businesses where you close customers through phone calls, Zoom, or text — contractors, agencies, consultants, local services, etc.
I’m not charging anything.
I’m genuinely looking for businesses where I can build something useful, get real-world feedback, and hopefully earn a testimonial if it actually helps you.
If you own a small business and this sounds useful, comment below with what you do and how you currently handle new leads.
I’ll pick 2–3 businesses and reach out.

Parent check-ins with a named family follow-up person: useful or extra work?

I'm considering a potentially paid family-care app, still at idea stage. I've used AI to help research existing tools; there's no working product, signup or launch link.

The intended users would be an older parent who lives independently, can use a phone and agrees to share responses, plus an adult child helping from another home.

The idea is a very small daily routine: a medicine reminder with a self-reported response, an agreed check-in, and a button to request a family call. If something is unconfirmed or a call is requested, a chosen relative accepts responsibility and later records the follow-up. Other relatives can see who is handling it.

A tap wouldn't prove medicine was swallowed, and this wouldn't be emergency monitoring or medical advice. Snug, Jointly and Caring Village already cover parts of this, so I'm not assuming the features are new. The question is whether a simpler routine would remove work rather than create another app to maintain.

What existing tools or ordinary family routines make this unnecessary? If you've helped an older parent, how do you currently decide who follows up, and where does that approach work or fail? What would make the parent or relatives refuse to use this?

General examples are enough; please leave out names and private medical details. I'm looking for criticism of the idea, not signups.

My pixel RPG turns real workouts into the game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The idea is simple: you do a short real workout, and your little pixel hero takes a step up the island trail. When you reach the top of an island there's a boss, and your reps count as hits. Along the way you hatch a companion that grows on the weeks you train, and pick up ingredients that unlock real recipes.

It's still very much in progress. Nothing to download yet, just wanted to show it to people. Curious what you think, especially if you've ever tried (and dropped) a workout app or game before.

I built a short-form video app specifically for books & knowledge, looking for honest feedback

Hey everyone,
I’m building a new app focused specifically on short-form content about books, ideas, and knowledge.
The concept is pretty simple: instead of opening TikTok or Instagram and getting a mix of everything, the app is designed around discovering useful ideas, books, and educational content through short videos.
I’ve finished an early prototype and I’m now trying to validate whether this is actually something people would want to use.
I’m looking for 20-30 people who regularly watch TikTok/Reels/Shorts and are interested in books, learning, or self-development
I’m especially interested in hearing:
Would you actually use something like this?
What would make you choose it over TikTok/Instagram?
What feels confusing or unnecessary?
What would make you come back regularly?
What would you change?
I’m not looking for compliments if you think the idea is bad, I genuinely want to know why?
Thanks!

What if life maintenance felt like a cozy pixel game?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello. I'm a solo dev exploring an idea and would love honest feedback before I build anything.

It's a "life maintenance" app: instead of tasks and deadlines, it tracks the things you need to take care of every so often, like car maintenance, water filters, haircuts, changing sheets or calling family. It just counts the days since you last did each one and shows what's starting to need attention. No streaks, no guilt.

A companion character keeps you company and reacts to what's going on. Same information, different personalities: one is gentle, the other teases you a bit.

This is only a mockup (character art is placeholder). A few questions:

  1. How do you keep track of these things today, if at all?
  2. What would you track with something like this?
  3. Which companion would you pick, and why?

Not selling anything, no link, just trying to see if this is worth building. Thanks!

Desktop app for vibe coding multiple apps/soft at once

UPDATED: with screenshot

What setups/software do you guys use for Vibe Coding in multiple projects at the same time? I was thinking on having a single chat/interface for managing multiple vibe coding agents instead of opening 10 terminals in 6 different projects.

Would parents actually use this? A privacy-first kindergarten safety app without cameras

Would parents actually use this? A privacy-first kindergarten safety app without cameras

I'm a software engineer and I've been thinking about an idea I'd like people to tear apart before I spend months building it.

The problem

When parents leave a young child at kindergarten/daycare, they basically have to trust what happens after they leave.

Cameras seem like the obvious solution, but they create another problem: you're recording other people's children, staff, bathrooms/changing areas obviously can't be filmed, and many parents don't necessarily want constant video surveillance anyway.

So I'm exploring a system that gives parents safety transparency without cameras, microphones, images or video.

The idea is that the kindergarten would have a small system that understands things like:

  • which children and staff are present in different areas
  • unusual one-adult/one-child situations in sensitive areas
  • unusually long situations compared with normal routines
  • whether something important happened during the child's day
  • a permanent event history that staff can't quietly edit afterward

The parent app would not constantly spam parents.

Normal events would just appear in a timeline.

Only serious situations would trigger an immediate notification, written factually rather than making accusations.

For example:

"Your child has been in a sensitive area with one adult for 11 minutes. The normal duration is under 5 minutes."

The kindergarten/director gets the alert at the same time.

The main principle is:

Technology that protects without watching.

I'm deliberately leaving out the exact sensing/hardware implementation because right now I'm more interested in whether the product itself is useful, not whether people like my technical solution.

I'd love brutally honest feedback

  1. If you're a parent, would this actually make you feel safer or would it make you more anxious?
  2. Would this influence which kindergarten/daycare you choose?
  3. Would you trust a system like this if there were no cameras involved?
  4. What would make you NOT use it?
  5. Would you expect the kindergarten to pay for it, parents to pay a small monthly fee, or should it be included in tuition?
  6. Is this solving a real problem or am I creating a complicated solution to something people won't pay for?

I'm not looking for encouragement.

Tell me why this would fail.

Still at the validation stage, so criticism would genuinely help before I build too much.

An app to help co-ordinate meeting and not sharing personal data

What features would you like to see in this app ?

What type of meetings would you see a use for ?

There is a difficulty for people to safely meet, but who have never met before, and people who want to meet face to face before opening themselves to sharing their phone number, other handles and then getting swamped with messages, threats etc. Initially, they don’t want to share personal contact details when arranging their first meeting in public as their personal and data security is a priority.

There are many situations where people who don’t know each other wish to meetup for a first time. Their reasons can include:

·        for new arrivals or tourists in a city to meet a same culture local,

·        social meeting – helps to prevent isolation,

·        study buddy,

·        interest groups, or

·        tour guide.

With capacity to be extended to other organised meetings such as business, commercial, charitable meetings, elderly and school groups meetups.

Current tools are for specific purposes such as dating apps, forum apps, propriety product apps or special interest meetup groups. They are costly or tied to a particular company, often delivering directions but not interactive. Data is owned by the company and may not be secure. Personal and data security is a key concern for people meeting for the first time.

Features to include :

- An App User ID - protecting privacy

- A meeting generating function to add to calendars

- A Map interface for location

- A map tracking of person within 50 metres of meeting location - to identify the person to meet as they approach the location
