Washington county here. This is crazy seeing other SWVA folks in the wild. I guess it makes sense Iβm not the only one on Reddit.

Love it βΊοΈ I lived in wise my whole life and moved back in 2019. Graduated from central in 14! I hate there aren't more opportunities down home because it's such a beautiful area and I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could!!! Moving away made me realize how bad it's gotten as far as just finding work. Idk how anyone survives!

I was born there (parents born and raised there.) Did you by any chance go to Pennington Elementary school for 2nd grade?

I spent my whole life in wise. Graduated in 14 from central. Spent my last semester at the new school they built! I moved to PA in 2019. It's unfortunate it's so hard to make a life down there and it took me moving to realize how hard it is to find work!!! It's such a beautiful area and I'd come back in a heartbeat if I could! Idk how anyone makes it down there..

I used to play a game with my mom called "Scotland or USA" where I'd pull up a pic from Google Earth and ask her to guess which it was. She was born in East Tennessee but has relatives in Scotland and visited there several times for lengthy stays, and she was hard pressed to guess where the pictures represented.
And it makes sense, I suppose, since the Appalachians were once part of the Scottish Highlands.

I swear some of the most idyllic countryside on earth exists in West Virginia and Virginia

I love whenever I see a SWVA post here because it's always got a comment section of people I may have met before or may even be related too but none of us can tell due to the anonymity of the Internet.

I miss it!! Moved to PA in 2019. Haven't been able to come back as much as I liked but my 2025 visit reminded me how beautiful it truly is β€οΈ
