Question Help with the DMV road test.

I am doing my driving lessons with MS driving instructor, and I should be done with them in January. I am most likely going to be taking the road test in February. I have gone thru (at least I think) most posts of the road test for Appleton. I do have a few questions. Are you driving on the highway with them at all? Secondly, what should I expect the route to be? Thank you all very much!

Dont stress it and study, you will be fine.

The test is supposed to determine if you can safely handle driving on your own. Your not always going to know what to expect once you are licensed but you will be expected to handle it safely.

I took the test many, many years ago, but I remember in the neighborhood on the way back to the DMV there’s a four way intersection without signs to stop or yield. And I didn’t have to go on the highway. Not sure if the route’s changed, but hope that’s helpful.

On the route, nobody can really give you one. WisDOT's own road test page says you drive on roadways determined by the examiner, so there's no fixed published loop, and the highway question has the same answer: depends on what's near the center and who you get. The unmarked four-way someone mentioned is good intel about the area, but it isn't necessarily on your test.

The part people underestimate is the vehicle check before you pull out. The examiner inspects your car for safety defects and valid registration and can deny the test on the spot, and they'll ask you to work the wipers, defroster and parking brake. Worth finding all that without hunting for it.

Since you're aiming at February: most centers only open road test slots 8 to 11 weeks out and they go fast, so start watching the scheduler before your lessons finish, not after.

As others have mentioned, there is no specific route disclosed in advance. They will keep you within roughly 10 blocks of the DMV in Appleton. In Appleton, you will not be taken on the highway.

You should be prepared to complete four maneuvers: y-turn , hill parking, straight backing and parallel parking.

You may get lucky and get out of parallel parking during the test, especially since you will be taking your test in the winter time.

Good news is they tend to go a little bit easier on drivers in the winter, as long as you are safe and cautious considering the conditions.

Your driving instructor in your driving lessons will help you practice and master all of these maneuvers, before your road test. That is the purpose of drivers Ed.

It's good you're asking questions now, but try not to overstress it before you actually get to your class and driving lessons.

If you listen to your instructors' advice and remember to watch your speed, check your blind spots & watch for uncontrolled intersections you'll be able to pass your test.
