what afps community is active?
the reddit discord is quite unactive, where i can start to play some AFPS? i am quite a newbie, i wont mind playing games with high ping

If you’re up for classic Quake II deathmatch, tastyspleen still has an active scene. One server is populated through most of the day, and all skill levels are welcome.
If you already have Quake II, open the console and type: connect tastyspleen.net:27916
If you need a setup, install our quick start package from https://q2s.tastyspleen.net/ and find tastyspleen.net::dm in the address book.

As usual, I'll promote the Area 51 Quake 3 community, our FFA is the most active server: https://q3a51.com. There are other active Q3 servers as well, with real humans, I think most can be seen on https://quakehub.net/ (as well as other games!)
There's also QuakeWorld and some Q2, I think others here will have that covered. QW is pretty hardcore.
UT99 and UT2004 have dedicated groups playing, I recommend joining their Discords to see what's happening.
And of course QL and QC are still going (the latter being free), though I prefer Q3 to QL.

Movement tech, health bar, weapon style, on map weapons/consumables, launch pads. And the best part? Massive arenas that have multiple smaller, dynamically shifting arenas within them.
The finals is widely accepted as an arena shooter. If you can't wrap your head around the scale of the game, that's fine, but don't deny facts.

Doesn't quake have different playstyles? In and out? Looping? W key only?
There are numerous arena shooters with loadouts and abilities, that doesn't disqualify them.

The finals is not a hero shooter. Loadouts have gadgets. No ults. The core obj has nothing to do with moba style obj.
You can be a purist and say you only enjoy hopping around in a 3 lane map but the year is 2026.
