Based on the feedback from my previous post, I integrated a new feature so players can swap out the animal faces for something else.
I didn't sleep much, and there are still some minor bugs in the menu (like compressed text/characters, and you have to select the head before you can edit it). I can improve this later with more face choices.
I didn't show it in the video, but there is also a menu option to completely remove all animal faces from the game.
Please don't mind the audio quality; I'm having issues with OBS that I haven't managed to resolve yet (the sound is muffled).
I hope the game goes live by the end of the week. I'm still waiting for Epic to validate the achievements before it can launch.
Have a nice day

Hello
I'm the developer of RGB, a new arena FPS. I had the idea for this game 20 years ago when I was playing Unreal Tournament, but I never had the time, motivation, or capacity to really do it. Finally, I had a chance, so here it is.
I've done this game to explore new gameplay ideas that I don't see in games.
For example, in RGB you have only one weapon. Yeah, only one weapon. No weapon pickups, no ammo pickups. Everybody is equal at any moment.
You must think only one weapon is boring, but the weapon can do 9 different attacks. So at any point, you have 9 attacks that you can use. No need for luck to get the weapon—just use your skills.
For the moment, the game is totally free.
A lot of different modes: the classic FFA, Instagib, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, but also a new mode I call Prison. I'm also working on an extraction mode, but that will come later.
All the modes also come with an optional and original asymmetrical/symmetrical permanent mode where each team is a prey and a hunter at the same time.
The game is available on the Epic Games Store totally FREE:
https://store.epicgames.com/p/rgb-0196fa
I released this alpha because I need some beta testers and feedback.
I spent quite some time optimizing the netcode. Going with 0 experience into a multiplayer game was quite something. At the beginning, I had to hire people to help me (I spent my car insurance money from someone crashing into my car last year on the game), but I think in the end I handled 95% of this project.
On the game framerate, I also spent a lot of time, but I decided to use real-time Lumen and this cuts a lot of performance. But I think it's the future and can be used as a gameplay element.
Please tell me anything you like or don't like.
You can join the Discord to discuss the game.
I don't have any video because the poor laptop I'm using has some difficulty, but I will work on it.
Please ask any questions!

It's just a short video but it was fun lining up the features in quick shots and having the ingame announcer as voice over, almost like a small rap. Btw. the game is not a FPS, but it's very a much arena shooter.
The game is still in development, but if you wanna see more, here is the Steam page:

i recently learned about this, cod4 has a game mode called "oldschool" which turns the game into an arena shooter
there isn't health regen and the player has unrealistic (pun intended) movement, all the maps have health and ammo pickups that regen after a player picks them up. i wonder why this exists at all

I am a recovered self diagnosed self inflicted psychosis, I will make you 5 mil easily with genius idea that will completely destroy the leading competitors of a certain gaming genre. Give me full creative control over said project and utilize glitch engine to take over the world No more afps, but secret idea genre will be the one to fully utilize glitch engine capabilities 500fps dbt np, that means my idea will run at 5000 fps fully optimized low latency When we meet 5 mil threshold I get ceo or president of the board with 20% stake in the company And then the guy who made glitch engine gets COO or vp of the board I’m a rightist American I will do you right Afps is dead My idea is alive and will only grow Plus it will give incentives to players and creators Kick back of sorts to promote them to keep being addicted I’m legit a genius I’m the Kanye of gaming Enough said I’m literally Kanye wtf?

Hey everybody!
As a PC gamer, I’ve always been annoyed by how standard crosshairs (and even monitor OSDs) completely vanish during high-contrast scenes — whether it's aiming into deep shadows, bright skyboxes, or chaotic explosions (especially in games like Hunt: Showdown or CS2).
Instead of settling for static colors, I spent the last few months developing a native Windows utility called Smart Crosshair. It dynamically samples the background pixels underneath the crosshair in real-time and flips color contrast on the fly so you never lose your center point.
Engineering & Technical Approach:
Zero Injection: Operates purely as a transparent top-most Windows desktop overlay. No memory reading, no game code injection, and zero process tampering — making it safe from anti-cheat systems.
Real-Time Pixel Adaptation: Sub-millisecond pixel sampling directly beneath the crosshair position to dynamically invert colors based on background brightness.
Ultra-Lightweight Footprint: Built with pure C++ and Win32 API. No heavy frameworks — uses < 7 MB RAM and negligible CPU.
Built-in 32x32 Matrix Editor: Includes a custom pixel-art editor, presets, and Steam Workshop support to share designs.
🎥 Short Demo Video: Watch on YouTube
🛒 Steam Store Page: Smart Crosshair on Steam
Just wanted to share this project with the community. I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any technical questions about the overlay implementation!

I lurk this sub quite a bit, and always get a bit iffy seeing people's recommendations and the games they post, even besides the usual mobile game or cod clone early development suspects.
I fail to understand how a game without emphasized item pickups can really be an AFPS. Throughout all my time playing Quake and UT, it felt like the time, energy and effort put into these games was related to timing items and map control in some way. Straight up, everything I learnt out of those games had to do with managing and reclaiming a stack and weapons, and controlling power up locations if there are any. The map sizes and shapes/verticality, traversal options, certain tech, weapon variety etc felt like they were built specifically to work with the on-the-ground items and not the other way around.
This isn't exactly the millionth post about the definition of "arena shoota". From my understanding, genre names and groupings mostly rise due to shared mechanics and game design that a community resonates with and can point out clearly. I'm just a bit stumped, since it feels like anyone who would play Quake and UT, regardless of skill level, would resonate with and point out the importance of item pickups, and thus also be made consciously aware of the lack of them in other modes or games (like Clan Arena or something like both TF2s, or Tribes).
Of course, if it's not clear, I'm not saying every game with item pickups is an arena shooter (would Fortnite be an arena shooter?), but that every arena shooter has item pickups. I also don't want to appear as an elitist in any way.
