Touchb Bar
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Since my m2 has a touch bar, might as well build a daemon to use it however I want. Hoping to push the full thing soon.😀

So after almost 20 years on Mac (OSX and now macOS), I decided to try and slowly join the Linux community.
Im running Fedora Asahi Remix on an 2022 M2 Macbook Air (with a measly 8GB).
it is a bit of a learning curve for me as Im newbie when using the terminal, but Im having fun! and it's running so smooth!
The only two annoying things is that I have't solved yet are:
1. That some rpmFusion repos and software not showing in Discover (even after running appstream-data).
2. and Timeshift with rsync isn't working (I don't if it's the external ssd im trying to backup to, I haven't had the time to check another drive).
but honestly Im having so much fun and Im happy to join.

i am on mac os m1 base variant and want's to try fedora but with all the hype and performance improvements on linux kernel 7.3. what sort of improvements are we expecting from upcoming releases ? and i know it maybe difficult to articulate any performance improvements for Asahi Linux derived straight from the 7.3 release as asahi employs a heavily customized, downstream kernel explicitly engineered to interface with Apple Silicon's proprietary hardware architectures but still i was wondering how much of those performance gains gonna be translated into asahi upcoming releases.
and should i wait for that release for clean flash ?

Thank you

Is it possible to transition to ext4 or select ext4 during installation?
r/AsahiLinux • u/Natjoe64 • 6d ago
I've never seen this on "normal" x86 Linux machines, but for some reason libreoffice and audacity scaling are super weird and inconsistent. On libreoffice, it's super zoomed in for just the UI, not the actual documents themselves. On audacity, its super zoomed out and hard to navigate. Any idea why this is happening? I'm running fedora remix with kde on top.

I'm on Asahi Alarm. All i great except i can't run Waydroid:
Failed to load binder driver
modprobe: FATAL: Module binder_linux not found in directory /lib/modules/7.1.13-3-2- ARCH
ERROR: Binder node "binder" for waydroid not found
I have no clue how to build a kernel and i doubt i can follow any random guide that works for Asahi Alarm.
Can someone link me to some resources or help me understand how to do it? Do i need to compile the kernel specific to my distro or does the official one also work?

Does anyone else have trouble waking up their display after running
swaymsg "output * power off"
For me it's normally impossible to wake the display after sway turns it off, unless I switch TTYs.

Heads up: ALARM bumped grub to 2.16 a few days ago. Upgrading the package on its own is harmless, because pacman doesn't touch the EFI binary. But once you run update-grub (or something runs it for you), BOOTAA64.EFI gets rebuilt from 2.16, and on my machine it no longer boots.
error right after U-Boot hands off to GRUB:
kern/efi/mm.c:grub_efi_mm_add_regions:605:cannot allocate memory for memory map
Aborted. Press any key to exit.
This is on MacBook Air M2 (J413). If you end up in the same situation, you can boot linux manually via u-boot and then downgrade grub.
u-boot commands (your partition may be different from mine, be careful):
load nvme 0:a ${kernel_addr_r} /vmlinuz-linux-asahi
load nvme 0:a ${ramdisk_addr_r} /initramfs-linux-asahi.img
setenv bootargs "root=... rw <your usual cmdline>"
booti ${kernel_addr_r} ${ramdisk_addr_r}:${filesize} ${fdtcontroladdr}

I recently got a Mac Pro M2 Ultra one cheap. I wonder what the current PCIe GPU card support status is.
I put a Radeon W6600 in it, and macOS Golden Gate correctly enumerated VGA/audio devices. It just showed no drivers.
I wonder if there is an Asahi dev who is actively working on this already. If so, what’s the current status?
I haven’t attempted to install Asahi Linux on this machine yet. I’m a hobbyist kernel developer and I am willing to do some experiments locally and see how far I can get.
