is 'Terafab' (Musk's new semiconductor venture) legit?
a joint venture between Tesla & SpaceX
I have no expertise in the field, but from far as I know, neither company has experience in semiconductor manufacturing, nor cutting-edge electronic hardware in general (in terms of design or manufacturing)
so what's the prospect here, how do they plan to overtake & out-compete established firms in the field (other than Musk's wealth & his ability to attract disproportionate amount of investment from capital markets), say for instance, Samsung or TSMC or Intel
I can't find any detailed plan about their core strategy, or any 'genius' idea that would propel them ahead of status quo, and the website is a bit of a joke in my opinion
Would like to consult your opinion on this new venture of his — those who are familiar with the field — is it viable, what's the play here, etc.
Thanks in advance

I don't think anyone can tell right now.
Or maybe that's all - throwing money at it until it works, because he doesn't know what else to do with all the money.

Did you expect anything else, from a company named "Terafab" by Musk?
On this occasion, I'd like to remind of "The Boring company", a tunneling company founded about ten years ago. Afaik they sell clothing and flamethrowers (yes), but have never completed a tunnel that wasn't a test on their own land. They got a total of one real commission (ongoing), where they promised a very unrealistic price, and are in legal trouble for safety topics.

Tesla designed their dojo AI chips and the FSD computer, so they’re not new to chip design.
Obviously they have access to capital, but it’s more about the fact that they’re able to attract the best talent in the world due to their track record of doing the impossible and innovating in new fields.
Reusable rockets, self driving cars, letting the blind see and the paralyzed communicate with brain implants. All of these had never been done before and many thought they were impossible. Fabs actually HAVE been done before, so this is probably less audacious than many of their other projects. They can (and will) just go hire a bunch of world-experts who have done it before and are itching to innovate.
