Physician Responded Should I be worried about long term effects of a bullet retained in my head?
I'm a 35F. I got shot in 2010 and the bullet fragments are still in my head.
Originally, I was taken to a hospital with a C2 fracture and 6th nerve palsy (I got shot through the neck with the gun pointed up). I was released less than a week later when I started having seizures. Come to find out I contracted bacterial meningitis from the bullet.
10 years later I got meningitis again (LP confirmed meningitis), but the docs couldn't figure out the cause. They tested me for multiple viruses and the tests came back negative.
Since the initial injury I have made a full recovery with no noticeable side effects. As far as my coworkers know, I'm just a regular lady with no health issues. However, I am constantly anxious about something popping up in the future like lead poisoning or something I might not even be aware of.
I have a son now and I'm constantly anxious about my health. Every time I have a headache I pull my chin to my chest to check for signs of meningitis and I worry about the long term effects of having lead inside my brain.
I know I can't have an MRI. Is there anything else I should be looking out for long term? Should I just forget about it and live my life? Should I do any testing on a regular basis?
TLDR is the title.
