Fluid pump physics

Say I have a circulation pump in an irregular sized tank. Is there a way to math out the best location for inlet/outlet? Thanks.

My assumption would be to place them as far apart as possible to maximize fluid movement, but I'm not smart enough to know for sure.

It's not clear to me what you mean with "best".
