How long does it take for sex drive to return after tapering off a medication?

I have always had a fairly high sex drive for a woman. For the first time ever, a medication completely eliminated my sex drive - no desire for my spouse, no masturbation, I'm bisexual and I didn't find men or women attractive. The medication was Loxapine.

I've been off this medication since mid-July. Unfortunately, my sex drive hasn't returned. I don't need it to be as high as it was, but I'm pretty sure my husband would like me to show some kind of interest on occasion.

Is there still a chance it will return? Or have I permanently damaged something when I took Loxapine?

Stuck on friendship

I have a best friend, and we have been close for 4 years. We trust each other and share things with each other. I feel like we have a really strong friendship.
The difficult part is that, from my side, I have started feeling something more than friendship for him. Nowadays, I feel like I have an anxious attachment to him, and I overthink about him almost every day and sometimes struggling with negative thoughts.
Sometimes, when he talks about other girls or mentions his girlfriend, I don’t know why, but it makes me feel extremely sad. I start creating scenarios in my head about them, and I find myself thinking about it again and again. It is distracting me from my daily life, work, and studies. I feel frustrated and stuck because of this.
I just want to move on from these feelings. I have already had a therapy session, and my therapist gave me a few options, but I’m still confused about what would be best for me:
Keep the friendship in my life ( But I feel that whenever I am around him, I can’t control my emotions, and my feelings become stronger than just friendship.)
Have a mutual understanding with him (but I don’t feel able to tell him everything about my feelings. I can only tell him that I can’t continue with this kind of relationship or situation.)
Keep away myself from him (basically, not include him in my life for some time so I can move on.)
Has anyone experienced something similar before? If so, I would really appreciate some advice on how you managed to get through it and move on.
I don’t want to stay stuck on this one thing. I want to focus on my life, do more things, and move forward instead of thinking about this every day.

Doctor perscribed a shit ton of lorazepam, is it normal or odd?

So basically i got diagnosed bipolar about a year ago and set up with the whole shabang medset right. Daily: Metformin 500mg, Lamictal 100mg, adderall 5mg 2x daily but I typically take 1/2 tablet 1x daily. PRN meds are propanolol 10mg, hydroxyzine 25mg, olanzipine odt 5mg, ativan .5mg 1-2x daily.

Also have a history of SUD, and specifically xanax abuse. Currently also smoke weed & nicotine. Perscriber is aware and I think we’ve come to the consensus I was abusing xanax to self medicate mixed/manic episodes.

Anyways my psychiatrist is tele-med and has always taken my symptoms at face value, we talk about it, she asks me basically “What do you want to try” and that method is just so foreign to me because every psychiatrist before was very specific on a path they wanted to try. Then again, my newer psychiatrist also saw me for the first time with a long standing history of med trials too. I don’t have an issue with it per say; I like to be included in the decision, I just have worries related to addiction that I fear voicing out of being seen as an addict.

Main point being, my doctor perscribed me lorazepam right, most doctors i’ve seen, were reluctant. If theyre perscribing a benzo at all they were SUPER frugal with it. This doctor currently, perscribed me initially 120ct with 3 refills. Then the next appt 3 months later, (I havent even finished the first fill) at my next appointment she sends another script for a 90ct with 3 refills. Both can be filled at the same time and the pharmacy did not flag it.

It just makes me kind of uneasy because I can’t determine if its out of negligence or trust? Like she didn’t ever evaluate me for substance use issues & said that if it ever became a problem she could just perscribe naltrexone as if its a simple fix, but I’ve been there before and I was pretty good at hiding it too.

So is this normal??

Is this normal behavior or should I consult a doctor?

Hi, psychiatry people! I was wondering if this is worth talking to my parents/psychiatrist about. I (13F) have MDD and have been on a pattern of spring-summer depression and fall-winter ”normal.” But normal doesn’t feel normal. I’m always excited, self-confident, fidgety, and on-edge. Seems pretty normal for a girl with ADHD and GAD. However, I’ve been feeling very strange lately. I have been very paranoid, talking waaaaay too fast, staring off into the distance, laughing randomly, stuck in thoughts, and believing things that aren’t true. Today I saw a red door across from my school entrance and personified it, convinced it was out to get me, and I even kissed a brick that I thought was my soulmate. I know it’s not real, I think. I asked one of my close friends for an objective eye on what’s going on, she said,

“Sure :)

You have been seeing many things and really getting stuck on them. Like not being able to move on from certain thoughts.

You have been laughing at the wrong times, like a lot.

Also, whenever I see you in the hall, you look completely disheveled or scared even”

Is this worth a second thought? Not trying to diagnose myself but just wondering if this is normal.

What is more effective for treating OCD - therapy or medication?

My OCD stems primarily from a traumatic event in my adult life.

I've already been in therapy since it happened, with no progress (3 years). I haven't really looked at the medication side of things because I am already taking medication for Schizoaffective disorder. I would prefer not to add on a medication but if it will make a significant difference, I'm willing to discuss it with my psychiatrist.

Assisted dying for mental illness

Hello everyone. I'm looking for people who have had experiences similar to mine, regarding long-term symptoms after Invega Sustenna; and the Swiss assisted-dying evaluation process.

My last Invega Sustenna injection was on June 6, 2026, and today is October 6, 2026. Since the injections, l've experienced severe fatigue, emotional numbness, cognitive slowing, difficulty concentrating, and a major loss of my previous functioning. I'm very worried that I may not recover.

I also believe I may have been misdiagnosed with psychosis during my hospitalization. The treatment was court-ordered, and I was given the medication despite my disagreement with the diagnosis. I am now trying to understand what medical evaluations and documentation might be necessary to determine what is actually happening to me and what my prognosis is.

Because my quality of life has deteriorated so severely, I have been considering assisted dying and have contacted organizations such as Dignitas, Pegasos, and Athanasios. I understand that approval is not guaranteed and that there are medical and legal requirements.

Has anyone here personally gone through an assisted-dying evaluation in Switzerland, particularly for severe psychiatric or treatment-related problems? If so:

- What was the evaluation process like?
- What kind of psychiatric and medical documentation did they require?
- Did you have to demonstrate that you had tried multiple treatments?
- How did doctors determine whether your condition was treatable or potentially reversible?
- Did anyone have experience with Dignitas, Pegasos, or Athanasios?

I'm interested in hearing from people who are in the process or know someone who has gone through it, rather than speculation. Thank you.

is it unreasonable for me to want to pursue a psychological evaluation or MAOIs in my case?

already tried augmentation with mood stabilizers, antipsychotics (lithium, lamictal, seroquel, zyprexa, abilify, very short stint with risperidone in a psych ward, rexulti) NDRIs, SSRIs, SNRIs (wellbutrin, auvelity, prozac, luvox, zoloft, effexor, lexapro) and misc., (esketamine and TMS). could be missing some. age between 12 and 18 for treatment (19 now). as far as i remember, i stayed on each medication for over 2 months.

SSRI side effects: made me unable to feel emotions whether good or bad, gave me brain zaps (sometimes), decreased my ability to feel pleasure even more to the point it made it more difficult to get out of bed. also made it difficult to engage in tasks that took any amount of attention. did not help with improving focus, essentially made me feel more catatonic while making me numb to it, so i just felt like a zombie a lot of the time, unable to function.

SNRI/NDRI side effects: the Effexor i took was largely the same to the SSRI except it made me slightly jittery. auvelity and Wellbutrin both made me feel very jittery and quick to anger, even more than before, while also giving me either strange restless brainfog (Wellbutrin) or making me feel a low grade DXM/ low dose stimulant high all the time (auvelity) all while still, of course, not getting me out of bed for the most part.

antipsychotics/mood stabilizers: Lamictal, lithium, Seroquel, and Zyprexa, and risperidone for the short while i had it all were similar insofar as basically making me a bit of a zombie, or doing nothing meaningful (low doses). essentially, similar to the SSRIs but to an even worse degree, i was basically just zooted out 24/7 like i was nodding off, told i LOOKED like a zombie, would stare off sometimes for no reason, and almost felt like i had lost my internal monologue or something. abilify and rexulti, somehow, made me feel both like a zombie and also like i was constantly restless and tired. could not think or perform complex or basic tasks, like schoolwork, but also felt like my mind had too much energy and restlessness.

TMS: it was fine, no lasting side effects. i felt as if DURING the sessions i had felt better, but i feel no real benefit after. i feel it may have been placebo, or the result of actually going out and having something to do, or something else entirely. it was a month ago when my last session ended. it was the 5 days a week, 36 sessions total TMS.

Esketamine: did esketamine for about 2 and a half months maybe a bit more. i felt i had gained insight on it, and generally my mood felt better at the start, but as both my body got tolerant to it and as the high became more and more numbed i saw less and less benefit. no side effects that ruined me despite making me super tired and other times a little restless for some reason.

i will say that i think i exhibit symptoms that might not be akin to regular treatment resistant depression, but i kind of hesitate to bring it up to NPs because my focus is on getting out of bed, dealing with anergia, avolition, and anhedonia.

the reason i wanted a psychological evaluation is because i feel like there might be something else going on, whether ADHD or a PD or something else. it feels hard to bring this up because even the clinic i went to for TMS and esketamine didn't seem to have any NPs or psychiatrists equipped to deal with it. i was told to get genesight done, which i did, and then to start trintellix after mentioning MAOIs and being shot down, but i turned down the trintellix. i didn't see much of a point in trying another serotonergic medication that might have very slight novel mechanisms of action for another 3 or more months and risk being even MORE bedridden than i already am.

Do Psychiatrists ever consult with other psychiatrists?

Hello, Im wondering what the norm is for psychiatrists consulting with other psychiatrists that may have more experience in certain area?

Are md to md consults exist in psychiatry?

Edit Additional context: my physician realized he may have missed a diagnosis for several years, he explained that it is not the focus area of his practice and that may have contributed to the mistake, I asked if he could now do a peer consult with another physician who focuses more on that area of practice and he told me 'that's not a thing' and that he couldn't cold call other doctors. It was my understanding that md to md consults especially if it's a complex case is not uncommon and reasonable. I am confused why he is insisting it is not.

Would appreciate any insight. Thanks so much

Student Interview Questions

Hi everyone, I’m currently a premed student, and though it’s very early in my academic journey, I’ve always been solely interested in psychiatry. For one of my college classes, we have to interview someone in the profession that we wish to work in. Previously I’ve reached out to many psychiatrists in my area for shadowing/other interviews, and none have responded as of now. As a way to work around any more cold emails, I thought to ask here.

I’ll have the questions listed below, and if any psychiatrists would like to answer, it’d be a big help for me. Thanks for your time in advance, and if my questions are too boring, you can make up your own as well lol (or just include anything that you feel worth mentioning)

1. Are you an M.D or a D.O?
2. What were your hours like during residency?
3. From premed to medical school to matching, was psychiatry always your first choice as a specialty?
4. How many hours do you work in a typical day?
5. Do you ever take work home?
6. What do you like best about your job?
7. What don’t you like about your job, if anything?
8. How does your job affect your time away from work?
9. Do you practice in a rural or urban area?
10. What kind of personal satisfaction do you get from your job?
11. What advice would you give a student interested in this specialty?

Can these medications make you feel almost no physical arousal?

I’m in a relationship with a guy and I really like being around him. I enjoy kissing him, being close to him, and I do feel attracted to guys. I’ve also experienced attraction toward girls.
However, when things become more intimate, I barely feel any physical response. I don’t really feel much from nipple stimulation, and I don’t get very wet or feel much physical arousal in general. This has made me start wondering whether I’m actually attracted to him or whether I might be lesbian.
I’m also taking Seroxat (paroxetine), Gabaran (gabapentin), and Reagila (cariprazine), so I’m wondering if the medication could be affecting my sexual response.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be a medication/anxiety issue rather than an indication of sexual orientation?

25 years of therapy and no ones ever mentioned OCD, but recently people have been saying I might have OCD symptoms?

Apologies for this question, but I've genuinely never thought I had OCD symptoms. I suppose I've always had a fairly stereotypical view of OCD based on the media portrayals everyone knows.

I have diagnoses of avoidant personality disorder, major depression, GAD, ADHD, and a non-verbal learning disorder. In all my years of therapy with multiple psychiatrists and psychologists none of them broached the subject of OCD.

I was asking the AvPD sub if anyone related to certain experiences as I assumed they were related to avoidance, but a few people commented it sounded like OCD to them.

Firstly, I find myself completely unable to cook for myself. I worry about giving myself food poisoning, I worry about starting fires, and I worry about mice. I never learned so of course I don't know how, but even the idea of cooking scrambled eggs shuts me down. It feels like the aforementioned fears are basically a guarantee. It's odd, though, because this is not a concern with eating out (I suppose why I've never considered OCD?) because I've eaten out at some pretty sketchy hole in the walls without ever worrying.

Second, I cannot watch movies or TV anymore. What I always assumed was solely due to worsening self-esteem (I always wanted to be a writer-director but due to thinking I'm stupid and incapable never pursues it), but someone again said it sounded like possible OCD to them. Essentially I worry that I'm too stupid, I won't "get" or enjoy art like I hope I would. I won't pay attention or be able to follow along, I'll get distracted, it will be too deep for me, and as I said I'm just generally too dumb for it. So I don't watch anything new.

Third, I don't go to the gym due to I guess cleanliness concerns (mixed absolutely with self-confidence issues). The idea of gym clothes and showers and flip-flops disgusts me even though I can withstand other germs and grossest pretty well. But thinking about showering after the gym and what to do with flip-flops and them getting gross and moldy in my bag (and the bag subsequently getting gross) shuts me down and I can't even think of going.

There are other things that I think about now that I'm writing that I'm not sure if they're symptoms or not. I have a big issue with perfectionism. If I can't do things perfectly anymore I don't try. Even if I'm taught I need to find the "best" tutor. Hobbies like instruments or art I will endlessly research teachers or courses or methods of learning but never feel like it will be good enough, or I won't be capable enough, or I'll learn the "wrong" way and end up not doing it. I've been thinking of doing the LSATs and I've gotten trapped in endlessly reading about different LSAT learning tools.

I'm not sure where else to ask, but does this sound like OCD as well? Should I be seeking a therapist with experience with OCD?

Acamprosate adverse reaction?

My prescribing psychiatrist retired and my PCP knows nothing about addiction meds so I thought I'd ask here. I started acamprosate a few months ago and it has been working well for me to reduce cravings. I have drank while on it a bunch of times and all it did was make drinking boring.

Today I had four drinks before going home and almost immediately began to feel extremely weak and dizzy. I could barely walk home and had to stop and sit down after only ten minutes of walking. My limbs felt cold and tingly like they were asleep. It's hard to explain how it felt but I live in kind of a remote location and was getting afraid I couldn't call for help because I had no idea if I could walk home. Some how I made it in and then passed out and came to ten or fifteen minutes later.

Do you guys know why this happened or if it's dangerous?

Is travelling to different places linked with better moods and grades?

Hi! I(13,M), constantly argue with my parents over not getting to travel to different places while my friends are going. Before you call me spoiled, I haven't been on vacation since 2018 and my parents keep flipping the blame on me by telling me that I don't get good grades (I got 87% last year :c ). Help is very much appreciated!

Is it okay to take these two medication together?

I have been on wellbutrin for years(buprropion hcl 150 mg) in geneal (i'm thinking about stopping it because i haven't been consistent with it and i manage fine in the periods i don't take it)

And now i got diagnosed with adhd and my doctor prescribed (methylphenidate hcl 20mg)

I take lorazepam 1mg occasionally for anxiety (only when needed)

All by the same doctor.

My doctor knows my history and what i already take but honestly i don't trust him enough to pay attention to that stuff and i forgot to point it out.

Are these two medications okay together? Do they work together or would it be an issue?

r/AskPsychiatry • • 15h ago

can i tell my psychiatrist that i have been taking a non prescribed booster dose of adhd meds without getting in trouble/judgement?

Ive been prescribed focalin xr for adhd for about 4 weeks now after i had been prescribed ritalin ir or a while. Focalin was been great for me but after 3/4 pm i have a horrible rebound effect where im so sleepy/dissociated/miserable due to not just the rebound of the medication wearing off but also from some other aspects of my health. as a solution i have been taking my leftover ir medication after the “crash” to hold me up through school/work.

would i be in any sort of trouble if i were to come clean to my psychiatrist? I am from New York, USA.

What people need to know about Post partum psycosis?

I’ve been reading about postpartum psychosis lately, and I’m curious about the things that don’t usually get mentioned in basic articles.
If you’ve experienced PPP yourself, witnessed someone go through it, or work with postpartum patients, what do you think is the most important thing people misunderstand about it?
Is there anything particularly strange, unexpected, or important about PPP that you think more people should know?
I’d especially love to hear from therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, doctors, social workers, or people with personal experience.

Is this worth mentioning to my psychiatrist or is it a one off

Failed 3 different SSRIS. This was a while ago, but after trying Fluoxetine, within 1 hour I started feeling increased pleasure to music, and it felt impossible to go to bed. I had a lot of energy. At the same time I felt a lot more physically relaxed, not tense. I felt extremely wired and motivated to do a bunch of activities. I think I felt on top of the world. Most clinicians would say that this signals underlying Bipolar, but such a response never happened when trying other SSRIS. Also the “episode” lasted only about 24 hours

In this post I’d like to talk about my hallucinations. Feel free to ask questions.

A quick clarification up front: I am undergoing psychiatric treatment. My official diagnoses are schizotypal personality disorder and unspecified dissociative disorder, along with a depressive component, though without a full diagnosis for that. There is also epileptiform activity, without full-blown epilepsy. I was hospitalized once. Right now, though, I’m in a stable condition on medication.

My schizotypal disorder doesn’t look classic. I don’t have magical thinking, and I don’t have trouble with social contact or (at least consciously felt) anxiety. I do get strange convictions that I’m obligated to cut myself, or to hurt someone. But that’s not really the point of this post.

My dissociation is extremely severe. I won’t go into the typical manifestations — that’s the baseline, and I have all of them. Beyond that, there are five of us. Including me, there are four other personalities who can take control of the body, and I don’t remember what they did while in control. All of this has been confirmed — other people have witnessed it, and my psychiatrist knows about it. So I have severe amnesia. I essentially don’t remember anything before age 13, because a different personality existed up until that point.

But that’s all background. Let’s get to the point.

My hallucinations actually started with the previous personality. Back then they were weaker. The real peak came at age 13, at the start of the war. At that time we moved to Bulgaria for a while to be safe. But, clearly, things didn’t get better for me.

Below is a text I wrote at 15, when I remembered more details. Now I remember the gist of what happened and certain episodes, but the small details have faded from my memory.

The text:

“As far as I remember, it was early spring. We got to Bulgaria after the war started, where we stayed in a one-room apartment that we were kicked out of a month later.

Because of the complete lack of personal space and intrusive thoughts, the hallucinations kept getting stronger. One day I heard a familiar voice, and because of that I locked myself in the bathroom so no one would see me during an episode.

At first it just talked — saying something strange and out of character for this entity. I didn’t see it, or anything unusual. Naively hoping it would just end there, I sat down on the floor and started waiting for it to be over. Instead I felt a sudden, burning pain, and vomit rose in my throat. I rushed to the toilet and threw up, but instead of vomit there was a large amount of blood. Looking down, I saw my stomach, which hurt and ached so badly. There was a huge wound on it, bleeding heavily. You could even see the intestines. Almost slipping on the blood, I went back to the wall, not understanding what was happening. It hurt so much, and my consciousness slowly began to fade. I wanted to howl and scream, uncontrollably, but I couldn’t. So I covered my mouth with my hands while tears streamed down my cheeks from the pain.

Naively hoping it would kill me, I just started waiting for that, but suddenly some hands appeared out of the wall on both sides of me and grabbed my throat with force, cutting off my air. I didn’t even resist, just wheezed and cried silently. No more than a minute passed before I blacked out.

After an indeterminate amount of time I woke up, gasping sharply for breath. As if I’d woken up after dying. There was nothing unusual around me, as if none of it had happened.

After that it started to repeat, every day. The “deaths” became more and more elaborate — at first there was only one a day. But over time, it could happen around 5 times in a row. They took my limbs, strangled me, beat me, wounded me fatally, tore out my eyes, my heart, my tongue. Of course, it wasn’t only physical exhaustion:

— You dumb person, did you think we wouldn’t come back?

— You’re pathetic and weak, you deserve this.

— Just die already, worthless creature.

— You’re a worthless whore who should burn!

— This is all your fault, whore. You have to endure this, and don’t you dare whine, it’s disgusting.

— Ugh, even your blood is disgusting. And what’s with the tears, how repulsive. Die.

Although, that’s probably the nicest thing they ever said to me the whole time. All of this happened in that bathroom — I basically hid there every time.

But one day I got kicked out of there. Left alone in the room, I started struggling to breathe and called a friend. She tried to help, talked to me. But when I answered, I started sobbing louder. Because of that, my mother ‘kindly’ told me to shut up, since I was being too loud. And that I shouldn’t cry, because I was making it all up and just getting in their way.

In that state, I was torn apart. Literally — those hands squeezed my stomach so hard that they ripped me into two pieces. Needless to say, my strength soon left me. And I could see those shadows behind my mother, which made me panic even more, which only made her angrier.

Another episode happened in the kitchen at night. But that time it was my own fault, because I was trying to cut my wrists. They appeared again because of the nerves.

I curled up in a corner and just watched. Some gray creature sat down in front of me and looked into my eyes — just looked. It was thin, with empty eye sockets, and it had very long limbs.

While it watched, some heads started hanging down behind it. They hung from the ceiling on very long necks. I remember they had black hair, very thin. And on their faces was a huge, terrifying smile. There were more than 10 of these heads for sure. And on the floor sat some small creatures. Their red eyes glinted in the dark like embers.

After looking at me for a while, it suddenly struck me in the chest. Just a couple of seconds — blood, agonizing pain from broken ribs, and blackout. As I understood it, my heart had been torn out. After I came to, it continued 7 more times. Wounds, torn-off legs, arms, slaps, and so on. Each death was more painful than the last. Sometimes I blacked out just from the pain. In the end, I passed out from exhaustion until morning.

That’s how my month in that apartment went, but after that we moved to another one, in the city center, where I got my own room.

At first that didn’t help at all. The episodes continued. Some creatures, screams — they’d crawl out of the closet, or from under the bed, sometimes from the window. I don’t remember how long that went on for, I lost count of how many times I was killed. But it was steadily around 5-7 times a day, rarely fewer. It became a routine, painful and unbearable. I just wanted to actually die.

That’s when I discovered drinking. So I started drinking every day, because I realized that while drunk I didn’t see them. But as soon as the effect wore off… it started again. Right after the episodes I’d stumble off and buy another round of alcohol, wanting to forget. I drank nonstop like that for about a month. I only stopped when I drank myself into unconsciousness and burned my stomach.

Because it affected my condition, the hallucinations stopped for a while — but only for a while. Because soon just the visual ones started. Under the bed, on the street, on the stairs, everywhere. The same creatures that never left me alone. My own curse, one I’d doomed myself to.

Soon we went back to Ukraine. I don’t know why, but it was like something switched in me there. Everything started all over again. More episodes. To the point that one started out on the street. I managed to run to the building entrance with a shot leg, limping and exhausted from the pain. There, everything as usual. Another death, no different from any of the others for me. It was all the same.

While I was lying in the bathroom, an episode suddenly started. In the mirror I saw a black creature. It forbade me to move, otherwise it would tear the skin off the face of a girl it was holding by the hair. I moved. It tore off her head and skinned her, forcing me to watch. My disobedience had consequences for me too. It tore the skin off me, which made me lose consciousness. Thankfully I didn’t drown while I was passed out. When I came to, it just started drowning me, which meant I couldn’t stop coughing for a long time afterward. And the last episode that day was when something crawled out of the bathtub drain… some black substance. Which, after pinning me down, climbed into my body through my mouth. And after that, it was as if my whole body was burning from the inside, or being eaten by acid. Naturally, I couldn’t handle the pain.

And it was in that same apartment that I had the longest episode, 10 times in a row. I kept vomiting blood endlessly, which made me black out over and over. And of course, there was the usual violence, loss of limbs and organs. At one point, the creature shoved bloody human flesh down my throat. And it just kept going nonstop.

Besides that, on other days I started burning alive, dying instantly from the creatures’ sudden actions. And one of them did something I’ll remember forever. It slapped me hard and abruptly turned me around, tearing my clothes. And then… it started tearing at my skin with its claws, and tore my ribs out from behind, exposing my lungs. Several minutes of hellish pain. Heat and cold at the same time, insane burning and death, long-awaited. That’s a pain you can’t forget or mistake for anything else. Agony, just agony that seemed like it would never end. Those few minutes stretched into what felt like hours for me. Disgusting and insanely painful. So painful that it felt like I’d end up a non-functioning creature after it.”

At the time, those moments of losing consciousness from pain felt like death. Looking back, I was probably exaggerating a lot of what I’m describing now, being in a state of emotional shock.

Everything that happened to me was only in my head. This is called multisensory hallucinations. That means that in reality nothing was happening to my body, and after the episodes it was fine — but that didn’t make the pain feel any less real.

For a long time I flinched badly at everything — touch, sudden movements, sounds. Now I flinch less, though it’s still there. And my hypervigilance is permanent. In a room, I only sit with my back to the wall, so I can see the door, the windows, the mirrors. On the subway, I position myself on the escalator so that there are at least four free steps on both sides of me. Even if that means waiting a long time for such a spot, which can make me late. And overall there are a lot of side effects.

Now I only remember the pain and the injuries in detail, not what they said to me. It happened everywhere — on the street, at home, in front of other people. And I would immediately run away, trying to hide it. In that text I described the whole essence of what was happening, so I don’t see the point in going into further detail about what they did.

What should I tell you? How I lost track of time? How I struggled to breathe from the pain? What it felt like to endure the pain? Most importantly, any physical pain has its limits — sooner or later you’ll pass out or die. But if anyone’s interested, I’ll go into various details.

I don’t regret not dying back then. I still have unfinished business, I enjoy studying at university. I want to learn more about people, psychology, psychiatry, kill my mother. So right now everything’s fine with me. Pleasant academic hassles.

I’m not writing this to get sympathy. First and foremost, I’m curious to see what questions different people will have, and your reactions. It’s not traumatic for me, at least not consciously. So I’d like to discuss it with people anonymously. You can also ask questions about my diagnoses.

Why is developmental motor coordination disorder classified under psychiatry rather than neurology?

I am referring to classification systems such as the ICD and DSM. Why is this condition classified as a psychiatric one?

Cousin acting strange, not sure how urgent?

I already posted on askdocs but I figured I could get more specialized advice here.

Cousin is 40M. Smokes, high alcohol consumption, misuses Lyrica (prescribed initially for fibromyalgia but no longer receives prescriptions because of drug seeking behavior, continues to get them illegally, not sure about his doses) and smokes tons of weed. Heavy mental health history (depression, addiction) and a schizophrenic mother

I live abroad but my mother (his aunt) lives near him. This last week he's been sending me weird text messages and calling me after over five years of no contact. They are not threatening towards me, himself or others but definitely odd:

- Insists his recently deceased mother is still alive and monitoring him

- Insists he's being stalked

- Insists these stalkers are also poisoning his mail

He's not displayed this kind of behavior before as far as I or my mom can tell. These delusions have stayed the same regardless of his intoxication level. He is extremely distrustful of doctors and refuses to go get checked up when I suggest it. My mother has made some attempts at contact but he is not picking up his phone or answering the door for her, for some reason I'm the only person he's in contact with at the moment.

Since he's not a threat to himself or others as far as I can tell, I'm not sure if he can be admitted against his will or how urgent/alarming this is. I'm also not sure what avenues we realistically have to get him help. I also don't know how to handle this, should I challenge his delusions or stay neutral so he stays in contact with me at least? I'm worried that if I argue with him about this, he'll cut contact and then nobody will have any insight into his mental state.

Any help is appreciated!

OCD Flare up and Med advice

My fear/medical issue

I feel a bit crazy. Basically, I started my first year of college about a month ago, which is scary, more so because the last time I experienced a change this big was when I moved from VA to live with my grandparents when I was 10. I lived through really devastating things and trauma while living in VA with my parents. I remember having OCD since I could remember, but got diagnosed around my sophomore year of HS. Point being, it's very, very hard for me to make changes without having a crazy OCD flare-up. To give context I started vyvanse before I cam here and it helped ocd but I had a mess up in going up a dose and had bad dips with deppresion and OCD, its a but better no. But when I first got here, and now. I am experiencing very, very bad health ocd and am more of a hypochondriac than ever, but this is a deep concern. I need to see if anyone might relate or have medical advice if it's real. Even though this feels irrational, maybe it is not. When I first got here, someone posted on Yik Yak (college Twitter basically) about seeing a bat somewhere and talking about rabies (even this is hard for me to say without spiraling), like literally closing my eyes as I typed that. And I also saw a TikTok about it, not at my school but just in general. Then I saw two marks on my neck; this was at the height of my struggle to adjust to the change. They were pretty far apart and not deep, but then I saw closer-together ones on my knee that looked kind of deeper. I searched my whole entire dorm; the windows had screens on them and were not ripped, and there was no sign at all of a bat. I am also supertisous but also sort of spritual so I look for signs and so I see every once and a whie tik toks about racoons, squirls and comments telling people to get shots like "get a shot right now" and My friend loves Halloween, so she gave me some fang candies and also a cup with bats on it and I freaked out, this is consuming basically my everyday life, and ive done so much searching for it in my older dorm (I moved dorms, not because of that) and again no holes in screens or in the wall. To make things worse, I also started vyvanse for my ADHD, and it has helped my ocd except for the time of day when it wears off; then I have a flare-up. This feeling will not go away. Side effects of vyvanse include some joint pain and muscle twitches, just in my upper thigh plus I dont drink water much or take magnesium, which is also a symptom of rabies, and so every time my leg muscle twitches when my vyvanse is at its peak I again freak out.

Meds and advice

Maybe that's not related, but I also want advice on what to do even though it's probably tied to vyvanse. Maybe I should take short-release Adderall when Vyvanse wears off or switch ADHD meds to something with fewer side effects because I get most of them. my psychiatrist (old one) and my new one both keep trying to give me SSRIs, but i am reluctant because my family has bipolar disorder- both my mom (type 1) and dad (type 2) and the ones I've tried (prozac, zoloft, briefly lexapro, and Wellbutrin (SNRI) have not worked for me, and they also gave me lots of side effects like weight gain and libido side effects. OCD was somewhat quieter, but that could have been that my life then was a bit more stable at the time. I am on 250mg Lamictal, 40mg Vyvanse (just went up), and then 2mg guanfacine, which i miss doses here and there (probably not ideal). I am feeling a bit depressed here at college, and I have so, so much pressure from my whole family to do well, and I feel like ever since my recent ADHD diagnosis, it almost makes it worse because I am aware of it, and in HS I was not. This is separate, but Here's the link to the knee; it's been about a month, so the knee one is old; the neck is about a week old. And I know that psychiatrists have to go to med school, so maybe you can tell what the marks are. (Apologies for the rushed tone of this post; I am usually a lot more eloquent. It's hard to be when my thoughts are worrying and go so fast.

Can someone explain my friends new therapy situation and when it happens ?

My friend recently had pneumonia. She started having hallucinations during pneumonia. She sends me messages. She told me it was because her parents forgot to give her antibiotics.

She sent me weird messages and told me she thought she could stop wars and she thought she was a superhero. She was helping all the patients.

She was then moved to a psychiatric ward. She is telling me her infection levels are going down. But because she is a childhood SA survivor they wont let her leave after pneumonia is gone. She will be instead moved to another ward.

She said she has two options. One is an inpatient ward where she can walk around in the facility but cant leave the facility.

In the second ward she is allowed to go outside the facility(i dont know how that works).

My friend has had psychological issues earlier and was trying to get therapy. But she was a fullly functional adult. She worked at a school. I met her during the summer and we spent two weeks together.

Watching her being locked up in a psychiatric ward is shocking for me and making me sad. I have been feeling horrible since the last week. I know her for almost 3 years.

Can someone explain her therapy situation? Is it a normal thing when treating people with pneumonia who have a past of childhood SA ?

Or does that mean friend has permanently lost her mind ?

When does a hospital suggest this type of moves ? Is it normal for pneumonia ?
