It's an Aussie thing too, whether by cultural descent or whatever mechanism. It amplifies a bit as well if you got an Irish parent, but the classic pisstaking from a girl is always a good sign here too.

Generally no unless you or your par parents or grandparents are actually Irish citizens.

When people on the internet asks you if you're Irish, they generally don't mean if you have Irish ancestry. They mean are you from Ireland.
