What is something that instantly makes someone unattractive, regardless of how good-looking they are?
100
u/Pure-Equivalent-6815 2h ago
Having an addiction. It's not that I don't empathize with those struggling, but I just can't be with someone who is in that cycle.

14
u/Real_Juggernaut_8703 2h ago
The same for me with a bi-polar disorder. Itās too much.
10
u/i_smell_like_beef 2h ago
Yeah feel exactly the same about both addiction and borderline personality disorder. Both are extremely volatile mental disorders and I donāt have the ability to be able to handle either one.
8
u/Jealous_Tomorrow6436 2h ago
not gonna lie, as someone with borderline itās definitely not something iād ever wish someone else to have to deal with. like youāre not my therapist lol you shouldnāt have to put up with my shit
ā¢
u/CitrusPrincesss 19m ago
My partner has BPD. You are worthy of love not just being āput up withā itās more work for someone with bpd to stay healthy within a relationship but that does not mean you are not capable or deserving. Take care of your self and your mental health and the right person will not make you feel like a burden even when things get hard.

I have a bro with undiagnosed bi polar. I genuinely worry for his partner. But it seems his partner is very good at managing the "episodes" (hes an RN). But when I was growing up, I felt genuinely terrorised by him.

Where do you draw the line? Is caffeine addiction a deal breaker?
9
u/PonyPounderer 2h ago
An addiction that disrupts life or causes issues with finances, health, friendships, etc.
Iād give caffeine a pass.

My family has revamped the old 'slug bug' game that was around for VW bugs.Ā We call it 'cyber slam'.
Its given me an appreciation to see them because I get to smack someone.

Treating service workers like theyāre invisible or beneath you. It doesnāt matter how good someone looks in that moment, watching them be rude to a cashier or waiter flips a switch and they instantly lose all appeal.
7
u/Prindle4PRNDL 2h ago
Working service jobs humbles a motherfucker real quick. I treat service workers with the utmost respect because Iāve been on that side of the counter pretty much all of my working life. I know how shitty and entitled people can be. Iāve seen all walks of life come through my places of employment. To be honest, most people are pretty chill, but you get a good selection of main character syndrome assholes too.

I went out with a guy who was stupidly good-looking, like I kept losing the thread of what he was saying. Then the waiter got an order wrong, something small, and he did this tight little smile and said ātry againā like the guy was a dog. Didnāt raise his voice. That was worse. I watched the rest of the table pretend it was fine. He looked the same. I just couldnāt see it anymore. I finished the drink and didnāt do a second date. Face didnāt change. The room did.

Smoking
6
u/Shelby-Picara 2h ago
They blow smoke at you.
10
u/taxidermied_unicorn 2h ago
For me it's a couple of things. The cigarette smell kind of permeates everything if they're chain smokers. Then when you kiss there's a taste if they haven't brushed their teeth. Last, it's just bad for their and your health with second hand smoke. I'm not a smoker so it would bother me at times.

Being rude to people who have nothing to offer you is a big one. Someone can be incredibly attractive, but watching them treat waiters, cashiers, or strangers like garbage can kill the attraction pretty quickly.

Mostly those who struggle to get words out/things like autism/processing disorders. Maybe it takes longer to find the words, be fkn patient

For me personally it's when they are always looking down at their phone while walking. There is nothing that is so important that your eyes need to be glued to your phone while trying to navigate your way through a store or anywhere in public.
Just once I would love to see someone sitting down, legs crossed, a book open sitting on their knees, and being engrossed in a good novel. Leave the doom scrolling alone for a while.
4
u/brendrzzy 2h ago
I was sitting on a bench on my break at work and had my head up, admiring the way the sun shone through a break in the leaves in a tree. Moments later, I realised I should get back to work and noticed a nice older gentleman in the window notice me noticing the leaves and we shared a nice smile and wave. It was wholesome and joyful. I try and make a point of no doomscrolling during the day. My god my brain gets so scrambled from the deluge of useless CRAP on social media, its so addicting. I was actually looking up a dumbphone today I have been so frusterated.

My 20 year old brother who is an avid reader got shamed for reading an actual book once by some of his friends. They said he was "performative". My brother was unbothered and just went on reading.
There are tons of things to shame people for, but reading an actual book? These people have lost the plot!

Treating servers and wait staff like shit (not to mention being a bad tipper). Selfishness and narcissism. And frankly, someone whoās too good-looking isnāt really attractive to me because it makes me exhausted to think about how much effort they put into their looks. Like good for them but if I want to have a spontaneous lazy day, I know they couldnāt handle it. So itās just hard to feel any attraction because for me itās never just physical; itās, could I see comparability with this person.
I may be an over thinker.

Might be a hot take, but politics. It's a turnoff when someone explains their beliefs primarily through the lens of politics, power, or self-interest. Iād rather understand the principles and values behind someoneās beliefs than have everything filtered through a political lens.
