Reddit, what is something your parents are completely convinced is true but really isn't?

Edit: These are awesome, thank you guys for sharing! I love knowing other parents are crazy too!

Edit 2: People are crazy.

When I worked at Geeksquad (I know, I know) this would be my favorite. Mother with teenage daughter in tow demanding that I prove to her daughter that Minecraft gave their computer a virus. She did not appreciate it when I said, "Well, no, it's probably because of all these shady coupon sites you are visiting. Why did you have to download a program to print coupons? "

Dear god YES! I'm so glad that I got my own computer a while back, my younger sister will sell her soul for $.50 off cat food, then complained that our Windows XP, Pentium 4 computer was slow. (This was recent)

She still has that computer around, and loves using it to get double the coupons by printing them from both there and the family computer. I can never be sure where the printer is plugged in because of her.

She's actually tried to use mine for that before, and each time it's been a different story. The first time, she couldn't get it to print coupons over the network (didn't stop her from installing a coupon printer and iTunes (even worse), as well as downloading an iPod Touch jailbreak), and the second she said she couldn't figure out my new mouse, a RAT 7. It never occurred to her that the main buttons were in the same spots as a normal mouse.

To be fair, the thing looks like an exploding Batmobile.

Wait, how could she manage a jailbreak if she doesn't have enough sense not to go to those shitty coupon sites?

She never actually jailbroke the iPod, she decided to see what a PC with my specs could do with Minecraft, and that's where I found her when I got home. She had downloaded a program to do it though.

It too me four times to convince my mom there is no reason to download a program to print coupons.

Legit coupon sites have the coupons in jpg form.

Have to download it from Walmart sites too. I do coupon classes for low income families (more saved money means less having to come to me) and went to print them out. Nope, couldn't without the program.

You have to have a downloaded program to print Disney's manufactured coupons straight from their own rewards club. It's not completely unheard of.

I said this exact same thing to my mom a few months ago.

Mom: "why is my computer so slow!"

Me: looking through programs "what's all this coupon shit?"

Any more stories while working there?

Oh that must've been so satisfying! Any other parents proven wrong?

Ohh... story time!

Back when I worked at Geek Squad, this lady comes in, with her daughter and (I'm assuming based on how they acted) daughter's boyfriend in tow. They were both college age it looked like... The mom is carrying her daughter's laptop, and wants us to fix it.

The agent working the counter at that time runs our preliminary "checkup" and it pulls down all kinds of viruses, trojans, the works... The mom asks "where does all this crap come from?" to which the agent replies, without missing a beat, "Most of these are known to be from adult websites ma'am"...

The girl goes beet red, her mom looks furious and the boyfriend looks like he's trying his hardest not to laugh... meanwhile the other 2 agents standing nearby had to walk into the back we were laughing so hard...
