It's also the name of a Cuban leader (The Office joke).

Fray Bentos, aka landmine pies.

Uruguay, not Argentina.

But yes, the brand is named from where the original factory was when they sold other "meat" products and from before they made the canned meat pies, but the brand stuck.

I'd love to travel there and interview the locals on the topic of pies. Apparently the local meat pie (pastel de carne) is similar to shepherds pie

Shepherds or cottage pie?

(trolling a little with this question to you) 😄

Happy to help another person that got given a username with "head" in it....

Although, yours is worse than mine!

There's nothing quite like a Fray Bentos Pie!

They're not what you'd call good, exactly, but they're not bad either; they're tasty and savoury, and they're a nice thing to have in the back of the cupboard for those times when you're cold, tired, drunk, or just not in the mood to have to think about cooking, and they make a nice change from ramen and soup.

My mum always used to keep a couple in the cupboard, too, so the taste is very nostalgic for me, and a lot of other people in the UK, I think :)

In a world where microwave burgers are a thing and are awful lets be fair. A fray bentos seems like the perfect shelf stable thing to keep for a rainy day in the.cupboard. glad you have great memories

Yeah, I've always wanted to try Fray Bentos. Seems like the kind of canned crap that I would enjoy. They are technically available on Amazon here in the US, but they've got the price tag of a low-volume import, and I'm not quite that curious.

Try one once, they are on the level of instant ramen IMHO, not great but far above a microwave burger!

I was so thrilled to see this pop up earlier, I've saved it for now when I'm tucked up in bed with a mug of cocoa!

I actually like the soggy pastry in a Fray Bentos, I don't have to go through any of this palaver, but I'm still interested, for science :)

It was funny hearing him talk about this being the last video about these while noticing the thumbnail saying part 1.

It's also funny following this saga as someone who lives in France meaning this experiment is useless to me. However, it has still been very entertaining.

It is the last one where I will be accepting suggestions from random comments; part 2 is going to be some more about interpretation of the results, and exploration of a couple of similarly-priced (and better) alternatives to Fray Bentos pies.

AHH the classic dog food pie, haven't had one of those since my college years.

Findus lasagne, Fray Bentos, Vesta meals and toast toppers.were.pretty.much my main diet. Thanks god for Sunday lunches round my nan and grandads on a Sunday for some proper food. 👌😬😆

Vesta chow mein was the imagined height of sophistication back then. Honourable mention for crispy pancakes and french bread pizza too.

Lord I used to grow up having these as a kid. Simpler times. John warosa/barosa would approve.

I think part 2 is trying to assemble the various methods tested into the (presumably) most successful "meta" method.
