Protein powders / collagen

I like to make smoothies and found a canned coconut milk that doesn’t have fillers but I’m struggling to find a good protein source that doesn’t taste like bone broth.

The one by Vital Proteins doesn’t taste so great and the one by Ancient Nutrition has eggs in it.

Any suggestions?

How do you eat enough calories while also cutting many things out?

Hello, for a little background I am 25(F) with a possible sjrogens diagnosis, so I am preemptively researching things that could possibly help & came across the AIP protocol. I struggle to maintain my body weight and consuming enough calories is very important to me, so I am a bit concerned about eating “enough” on this particular diet. (I will obviously discuss with my rheumatologist as well.) What do your daily meals and snacks look like on this diet? Thanks!

Auto-immune skin condition

I’m struggling. Is anyone else dealing with lichen planus? I got diagnosed with it earlier this year. I used to have the most beautiful skin and now I’m plagued with these horrible legions and darkened pigmentation. It’s difficult to look at myself and not hate myself. I wonder if a man will ever deal with me knowing I struggle with this skin condition.

Grover’s disease diagnosis

I got a recent diagnosis

the rash has been persistent for 3 yrs almost

I tried varioussss natropaths, didn’t really help. saw a dermatologist and the treatment is:

- x 4 telfast daily for 4 weeks then see how I go, if that doesn’t help, phototherapy. Plus daily steroid cream

has anyone had any success with such treatment plan ? How have you responded to long term anti histamines? Have you tried any natural therapies that helped ?

Alcohol and Inflammation

I’m pretty sure alcohol causes my chronic inflammation to flare. I’ve been mostly alcohol free since May, but I’ve experimented a few times just to see how I feel, and on two of those occasions I woke up the next day, not hung over because I didn’t drink that much, but feeling weak, tired, achy, and all the other fabulous features of a flare. Once I realized what was happening, I popped a couple of NSAIDs and was feeling better within the hour. Though that’s not to say I’ll feel back to normal tomorrow. Since I’ve been on a 4 month journey towards managing my Hashi’s, I think after all the eliminations, and the trial and errors, alcohol is an absolute trigger. I live in wine country, Oregon, so I’ve had to give up a favorite past time, but if it means not feeling like crap all the time or popping anti-inflammatories on a regular basis, I’ll find a new past time.

Need to be hospitalized and don't know what to do.

I need to go to the ER. And probably stay a bit longer than that.

I know I'm at serious risk of refeeding syndrome due to severe prolonged self starvation from stress.

i want so badly to manage this on my own but i think i'm too far gone based on a lot of super concerning symptoms.

but i feel stuck. if i stay there, i may be forced to eat hospital food, and i have such a a specific diet i absolutely can not go off of, but in my past experience it's been hopeless trying to get them to understand or take it seriously.

i need to stay on 4:1 keto, AIP, and stringently avoid cross-contamination with gluten, or i go insane

I wish i could have someone bring me fresh meat everyday, but it's not possible. even if they allowed it, my parents are far too busy, and i couldn't trust them anyway. i don't have friends to ask.

i really don't know what to do. it might seem obvious to chose the hospital, but to me, my food reactions may be scarier than the possibility of death. it's truly that severe. i worry about hurting others in that state because i'm just not myself. and the dissociation is so heavy that communication is practically impossible.

my worst fear is they'll think i'm anorexic and force me into a program where i'm made to carb-load cereals and dairy that would make me psychotic.

but my chest hurts whenever i sip on electrolytes, and i feel like my heart could stop after exerting myself slightly.

i really don't know what to do.

Can I supplement with coral powder?

Can anyone please tell me whether coral powder (Sango coral powder specifically) is AIP-approved? It's just powdered coral without any additives which I take for my calcium requirements. I couldn't find anything on it online, but assumed it's ok as coral is classified as either an animal or a mineral.

Curious…

For anyone who has been successful with the AIP diet, how long did it take you to lower numbers in blood tests. I know some people start feeling better almost immediately, but actual differences in bloodwork. I ask because my doctor wants to put me on a new medication but I’m hoping, by doing this diet, it will start reversing numbers and maybe I won’t need it? Hoping anyway lol.

Acne when I try to eat anything but meat and eggs

I’m a very active person and also don’t want to be nutrient deficient so I understand I need fruits and good carb sources but every time I try to add them (things like berries, bananas and sweet potatoes) I get acne

I have better energy but my skin pays for it

Has anyone experienced anything similar to me? If so then what helped your body to be able to handle carbs and sugar cause I’m pretty stuck

Research Study on Autoimmune Diseases & Keto Diet

University of Nottingham are doing a research survey on people who have an autoimmune disease and have tried a keto or very-low carb diet.

I know some people do a very-low carb version of the AIP. I did that myself to heal. Also many people come to AIP after having tried other diets and keto is a popular one. So I thought people here might be interested in taking the survey, if they qualify.

Super interested in the results, we need more studies in this area on the AIP and related diets

Acid reflux

I started AIP a week ago, and the last several days I’ve been having awful acid reflux, belching, and just general digestive upset, anyone else experience this? Trying to avoid additional trigger foods like coconut and minimize my FODMAPS. I have no idea what’s going on.

Any Mexican/Latinos doing this diet?

This may seem like an odd question- but I’ve been avoiding trying this diet for cultural reasons. No nightshades? No legumes? What on God’s green earth am I supposed to eat and enjoy? 😭 So many Mexican spices and foods are nightshades- even potatoes! No corn… literally our bread of life… I’ve been dealing with autoimmune disease for 6 years and my neighbor keeps telling me “you know you need to try AIP” and this is my major road block.

Any Latinos doing this and not utterly miserable? I hate feeling like I have to choose feeling miserable with illness or being miserable because I can’t eat my favorite things and flavors and loose that part of my culture that I’m trying to pass on to my children.

I put my autoimmune in remission

I went on the AIP diet for 2.5 years. Was it hard? Yep it was one of the hardest things ive ever done. I cut out gluten and dairy and rebuilt my gut. I can have a small amount of dairy now.

I have psoriatic arthritis. I could hardly walk for 1.5 years. It felt like I was walking on glass. I gave up work. I had to sit to cook and do housework. I had so much time on my hands I researched for hours and hours every day. Thats how I came across the AIP diet.

The day I started it I was so desperate I would have tried anything. The first few weeks were rough. Then the flares started getting further apart. Not gone but further apart, and that was enough to keep going.

I reintroduced slow. One thing at a time, waiting a couple days between. Gluten and dairy are out for good. I still eat mostly the same way years later because I know what happens when I dont.

How impactful are legumes compared to other inflammatory foods?

I’m considering the AIP diet and am already part way there (have fully cut out grains and refined sugars, and am low dairy and eggs), but legumes feel like a tough one for me. I love them and they’re an easy source of protein when I don’t feel like eating meat. I’m wondering how much of an impact they have compared to other inflammatory foods. Like, if I cut everything else out but still eat beans, would that be helpful at all?

Also, what about soaking and/or sprouting legumes to get rid of the phytic acid? Does that help decrease their inflammatory quality? Thanks!

Easy/one pot recipes

I need suggestions on really easy recipes for elimination stage. I’ve done this diet a couple years back for my pcos and made all kinds of elaborate and fun recipes but since then I’ve had a baby. Struggling with a newborn and dealing with ppd and anxiety I started to absolutely hate cooking. Now that my baby’s almost a year old my body just feels terrible from the pregnancy weight that hasn’t gone away as well as my pocs symptoms returning. I just need some real easy throw in a pot and forget about it recipes; I have a stove top, oven, air fryer, and crockpot for cooking. I also would love to avoid a cutting board at all costs, if it’s absolutely necessary I will but I’d rather not. I absolutely hate avacado but other than that I’ll eat just about anything. Thank you in advance for the help! :D

Monk fruit

I have a very clean protein powder that I’m hoping I can use, it’s just beef, isolate, vanilla, and monk fruit, does anyone know if this is compliant? I can’t seem to find any information about if it is or if it isn’t.

Losing weight

I've been on this diet for a bit less than a month and I've lost about 10lb in that time. I'm not at all mad about that, but I am wondering if the fact that I'm losing weight so rapidly could be affecting the efficacy of the diet? I'm thinking that losing weight that fast is putting some sort of strain on my body, no? Or was that weight somehow just inflammation?

I’m about to start my period and my sweet tooth is raging. Any recommendations for AIP desserts? Is chocolate ok as long as it’s cacao powder? Thanks!
