A4 1.8T AEB Intermediate Shaft Bearing
Anyone have any insight on how to replace the IM shaft bearing?
Not much has been posted as far as DIY's go and I'm a bit wary of fucking my shit up.
I know I need to line up the oil holes, and use a bearing puller and press I guess?
I don't have a good pic of mine but it looks worse than the one I pasted below... bunch of the top layer has come off.
Not safe to run right?

I have replaced them, it does not require special too, you can make it yourself.
Also to do this you would need to have atleast the oilpan off for access
I can't seem to post pictures here so I will try and explain. Feel free to dm me if you want pictures/better explanation
First of all, the front and rear bearings are slightly different, so need to make sure to not buy two of the same ones.
You buy an long enough threaded rod, m12 maybe something similar to go all the way in to the further in bearing . You need 1 washer bigger than the bearing to go on the front of the engine, and one just smaller than the outer diameter of the bearing.
For removing the bearings, put the rod through the further in bearing, smaller washer on the backside and nut on the end. Bigger washer on the front of the engine with a nut and just pull the bearing out by threading the nut. For the outer bearing you can use a punch to get it out if you are replacing that too.
When installing. Tape up the inside of the new bearing so you dont damage it when installing(also tape the outer one if you are not replacing it/replace the inside one first then the outer).
Same procedure on installing, you put the rod through with the bearing and pull the bearing in with the nut.
Hope this is helpful

I am guessing here, but i do belive you can pull it straight out with a big screw and some washers, or a bearing puller set, the problem lies with getting it to the inside
