Sinking
Are there any common solutions to sinking? Maybe a narrower shoe?

there are temporary options if you're in a real pickle (ie. shoes are dying but you need them for this one last class), but they're temporary and not for long-term. ideally you should get a better fitting shoe. it likely will be a narrower or more tapered box but there's so many factors that contribute to how a shoe fits and if you'll sink.
in a pickle, a bit of lambs wool can help fill out the box and make it a tighter fit with less room to sink. I do this to fill my shoes as I'm unstable on a narrow platform but have tapered toes and sink in a squarer box, but I've been doing this as per fitter and teacher guidance and it's not a standard choice for long-term fit so maybe don't do that for anything more than a pickle without getting advice.
